Flood and Drain or Soil

I'm currently using soil in a grow tent in a state with lots of sunshine and humidity and high electric bills. I spend more time fighting insects than anything else. Would a flood and drain system speed things up and produce better results. I've got ornamentals in containers on my patio that I could dump my grow soil in.

I live in a state with a lot of humidity and sunshine too, and boy are there bugs. Im assuming your tent has no hid in it? Because an hid in a tent usually keeps the humidity at a safe %. Which in turn helps minimize alot of bugs problems right off rip. Mine stays at 45-65% in my tent. Ive only ever grown soil so of course thats what im gonna recommend :)

dadio161,

I followed your setup and it looked fantastic. It looks like it is easier to maintain than soil and grow time is faster. Did you ever grow in soil? . I was looking for a table tray about two feet wide but didn't really find one I liked. I'm kind of stuck waiting for some plants to flower so I probably have 60 days too. I did harvest one AK Auto and had to rinse the bugs off. Trimmed it yesterday but only got 6.5g which is better than nothing and got a wierd high from lots of sticky leaves. Now, what to do with the sticky leaves??

I'm using the Botanicaire 2x2 trays sitting right on top of the 20 gallons reservoirs. They are quite sturdy and sit on the reservoirs nicely, just a couple inches wider. It's been working well for me so far and I'm currently working on getting some more trays going to fill out my 5x5 tent.

I've read things grow faster without soil but I don't have anything to compare against.
