FLIR, too risky?

I'd still dump the heat back into your living space, why waste it? I do in the winter. It's not much but it's already been paid for.. Good luck with your grow. It's good to keep safety in mind, can't be too careful.

Tho 2 other thing I forgot too - a few peeps have said about venting, which is fine enough solution for sure, tho if u do, do be careful ur no jetting it straight out as certainly as blatantly a constant jet stream funnel of hot air pumping out side of ur house would look bit odd!! Venting into another room for free heat is good answer too.

But secondly, also that would only be again if especially dark elsewhere. Plus they rarely ever just fly over looking about anyway. It costs in excess of $20K an hour to keep their types of choppers flying so they tend not to just jolly about in it! It's pretty much always used for pre-arranged , larger scale operations, missing people or chasing stolen cars.

So don't worry still!! Smell, other people and your own self are far more of a danger to the grow then imaging camera's ever will be!

If a 1k even could be caught on FLIR how would that be probably cause to enter a residence? Is all horticulture illegal? Can I not grow tomatoes at home indoors? I would be worried more about my neighbors and friends (no one but my wife knows I smoke) than any cop.

obviously yes take precautions but unless you are doing other obvious and shady shit where they could build a case in addition to the FLIR then maybe I would worry...

Lol! Some real informative answers!

Straight up, i can promise you that a 1 x 1000W bulb is not gonna be blinding chopper pilots using imaging camera's!

Your bulb will obviously add a nominal amount of heat to the room, but then do u really think the police are zooming in on everybody in country using fan heaters which are generally all 3kW (3000W)??! Compared to how much the rest of your house will be glowing in IR anyway, the bulb will make no difference.

The only thing to be more careful of, and is only one other likely yet still slight way to be caught, is actual light pollution. If the bare bulb is visible thru ur window & line of sight is good from air & ur entire surrounding neighbour hood is dark, then yeah a decent chopper pilot will then obviously wonder why u got a security light mounted indoors!!

But unless u got banks of lights (6+) and every surrounding room/ building within 50metres is at sub zero temps, then u don't have to worry about heat signatures 1 bit.
Thanks for the answer man, I appreciate it. And light pollution won't be a problem, I'll be using a tent.

Get real ir film. No cheap shit. Double it up and 1/2 down your wall. For drive by ir also. Might help. Cheapish insurance.

Hps bulbs burn at 1500f degrees roughly if i remember at all.
Its not the room heat really, but the bulb temp. My belief. I may be wrong.

A 400 would show up on flir from miles away (army version prob. police too) with zoom.

Man some people on this page really suck. Its like you guys aren't okay with people asking questions just to cover all bases. If you don't have any beneficial advice then don't even waste your time replying.
