FLIR in helicopters(outdoor)

I don't know, I live in NYS out in the country and in the mountains. If I don't see a helocopter a day I find it wierd. It has to be what there doing, flying low and in a wierd pattern. Just freaks me out. Glad I brought it indoors! Though now I worry about heat detection!

Hey WW

I also live 'upstate"....if you live on a farm, they are looking for heat plumes off of barns, the ground (buried grow rooms) and homes. Pot has become the #1 cash crop upstate and like i've said they are well aware of it. They are also looking for, excuse the term, dopes, that plant in huge patches of 20 or more plants. You'd be suprised how easy they are to see from the air. As i said, FLIR tech is good, but seeing a few plants here and there, don't worry too much. Remember, when growing outside, never leave trails to your spots, never leave trash around, when going to your spot, if it looks comprimised, it probally is and if your brave come back at night a week later, and never ever tell anyone where it is or even that you are growing. The NYS troopers ( real hardcore, but understaffed and funded) do not have the capibillities of the military and FLIR is more for looking for lost kids than finding a few plants. Like i've said, i am very familiar with this tech and my feelings are dont freak out too much. Now the Feds are a different story, but with the cluster fuck going on in IRAQ the DEA's budget has suffered to the point that they are not getting the latest and greatest equipment anymore.

Ratty, thats basiclly what i've been saying...people get caught by putting in large grow operations in homes, barns, basements and buried grow rooms. Finding individual plants with FLIR is not cost effective and very very difficult.

Ratty what a fantastic post.I went ahead and gave you reps. It is info everyone on here should read! Maybe even be made into a sticky. Just the info I was hoping to find on here. Thanks again.

WW, no disrespect, but the book was "1984" not "1994". Only that it's a classic or I wouldn't give a rat's ass.
Cheers!!

Even if it does grow give off a different wavelength (which i doubt that weed gives off a diff wavelength than any other plant) he probably is right and they only look for huge grow sites. They wouldn't think anything of a few plants.

I don't beleive the whole "wavelength" thing like other people have said, thanks for all the info about IR other guys though :D

well i have had a florida wild/cons. heli with FLIR flying over my place for the last two weeks. Flies dam low and does a circle pattern slowly winding away and returning. You can c the IR cameras clearly. Then again it is august so .. i think they are collecting heat profiles from our neighborhood otherwise why the repeated return trips? I keep my stuff "mobile" and move it every time they come near. Don't know if that helps but I feel better.

Weed is a money maker for law enforcement. It buys and flies those helicops. As long as weed monies are funneled thru law enforcement, weed users will be in ever increasing danger.

Bummer.

out.

Seriously. If you had the right connections what the govt has in their hands would flip you the fuck out. Just think of how the stealth fighter works...If they can cover the heat trails comin out of a jet engine they can do alot of shit...

In my area, many farmers lost their livelihood years ago, and, recently we've had pretty bad fires as well. Most of the cops here stick up for the farmers who had to supplement their incomes by growing mj to make ends meet.
So at least I don't have to worry about LEO - and gossip travels quickly here so I'd know if LEO were on the 'hunt'..

Sounds more like a scare tactic than actual truth. I wouldn't worry too much unless you're growing indoor with lights.

I just talked to my friend who is a gov't defense contractor. He has worked on this FLIR technology. Apparently it is true that marijuana gives off a different wavelength signal while looking from the sky, and this technology is used to find grows. And I am strictly talking about outdoor growing. This technology obviously works concerning indoor growing. I just want to beware outdoor growers that this is a true threat. He mentioned that it is unlikely that they will target small patchy grows, and that they mainly search for the huge grow ops(100-1000 plants).

His suggestion was to make sure to have your plots spread out, 2 or 3 in a group.

hope this helps
lol
tomatoe plant give off the same "wave langth" signal.

lol... if they cant spot 100-1000 plants with their eyes they need to quit the law enforcement. cuz they might as well have machines take their jobs (not trying to give a tip to govt LOL).. matter of fact, all law enforcement should quit :D JK.. kinda

What most miss is that with a FLIR, a cloths dryer looks the same as a grow op.. Unless its one of those huge commercial grow... the basic grower here is more likely to trip over his cat and electrocute himself when he falls head 1st into his power board..then to get popped by helicopters.. They do use helicopters for more then twisty hunting.....
