flat white or aluminum foil

given the option if mylar is not available, would you all chose to leave walls flat white or use aluminum foil? im leaning towards flat white as i know crinkles in the foil can cause hot spots, but is it that much more reflective that it might be worth while?

thanks

Flat white ftw. if its easier I know someone who used flat white wrapping paper and the reflectiveness on it is Great!

But mylar is still the primo shwag right? I should be able to cover my room for about 60 bucks, shit a can of white paint is 20. Based on my retard math is mylar still a good bet?

i like white poly because you can use it to seal your room. my defination of mylar is the thick silver refective material. aluminum foil is too fragile. roll of poly 10X100 is 60$ roll of mylar 5X40 is 80$ but some places you can buy the poly buy the foot. minimal light refective difference, spend the money on some co2 or power bloom. just my 50 cent opinion.

flat white is clean, easy to install, and landlord approved.

theres nothing like explaining tin foil walls to anyone.

and at $20 you could paint twice, then again after youre done.

Matte white diffuses the light returning it in many directions. Mirrored surfaces reflect light in straight lines leading to hot spots. I reccomend Super-White matte paint.Good luck.

Perfectly flat aluminum foil is 85$ reflected, and perfect flat mylar is 95%
we all know thats pretty damn hard to do and using alight meter i found you
will get closer to 65% for foil and 75% for mylar.
Hot spots on foil dont happen unless you ball that shit up. Tested that theory with 120*F heaters.
Mylar got hotter behind it, this is probably because it holds the UV spectrum where as aluminum reflected it.
If your aluminum is more then a foot from your plant LOLWUT at hotspots ON the plants, not going to happen.
Mylar also caught fire when i put it against the bulb o_O
Aluminum did not melt or catch fire. and i was able to still hold it. "test for yourself, put a flame to it, then hold it"

Flat white is 60% reflective....

Now so your best bet, based on the fact you will never get aluminum 100% perfectly flat.

Mylar -> White Paint -> Foil

Taking cost into acount.

White Paint -> Foil -> Mylar

Taking both cost and reflectivity
White paint -> Mylar -> Foil

In almost all cases, all 3 are viable, and you must consider what size your space is, and what size your wallet is.

And if you think at any time someone may visit before plants are done, just use white paint. simple

Great thread for noobs, just emailed my mom the link. She's using tinfoil and I just told her yesterday about using white paint instead.

i would also go with the flat white. i personally dont like tinfoil, crinkles too much and can be a bitch to install. although mylar is for sure the best!
