fixture's max wattage

Hello everyone!
I need some help on this subject. If my light fixture's max wattage is 40W is it safe to use an 125W CFL? How do you calculate the equivalent incandescent wattage of a CFL?

Watts are watts. If the CFL draws 125w I wouldnt recommend putting it in a 40w max fixture.

Unless its a "125w replacement bulb" as it in replaces a 125w incandescent. What does it say on the bulb?

Incandescents give off around 60 to 80% more heat

so if it says 40w max then normally you can run an 80w cfl with no issues as long as its wiring will do the job

125w should be ok but you might be pushing your luck

I know I`ve used 105w cfl`s in "60w" fittings before no problems ceramic fittings are best and like £1 each
