Here is a way you can grow with a fish tank. This is a hydroponics type grow system. You take 1 1/2" styrofoam insulation board, you know the blue stuff. You cut it just large enough to fit inside the tank. as Shown in picture. You then cut {4} 2 1/2" holes in the blue styro board. This is where you put the net pots. In the bottom of the tank put (2-3) air stones, that you get at a fish store. Now, the Blue board needs to be able to move up and down freeling. Now, you need to cover the outside of the tank with something that will keep out all of the light. I would use Panda Film.
Here is how it works, You fill the tank with clean R/O or distilled water, and your Nutrients, turn on the air stones to keep Oxygen in the water. You then place your blue board into the tank. The board will float on the water. Place your net pots in there with you plants. As the plants use up Nutrients and water, the level in the tank will drop. But so will the blue board and your plants. I suggest haveing an area that is like 4" round in the middle of the board which is cut out with a handle on it, so you can remove this PLUG for ease of adding more water and nuts.
Sorry I am not a very artistic person. Hope it is clear enough what I am talking about.
The crappy sketch is Side view is the top. and Bottom picture is the over head view of it. The center circle is the removeable plug, for when you want to add more water. The blue foam board rises and lowers with the water level.
