Fishing

Any fisherman around today? Just kinda landed into the hobby and was wondering if there were any experienced fisherman on this forum. Ive been looking into using a fly lure but not sure exactely how they work tho ive heard they work very well for top feeders. Maybe someone here knows a site that could help out a beginner at picking locations/bait/lures etc? ----Burn it slow!!!--- Chalkie

hey chalkie,

i'm pretty sure that there are a few fishermen about. There's been the odd conversation.

I haven't fished in years, would like to start again soon though.

I fish, but no fly fishing for me. Im usually fishing for bass, or trolling for pike/walleye. And in the fall I do a little perch fishing. During the winter its all about the pike on the ice.:bigjoint:

Im up for using any lure not just flys, ive tryed using tadpole looking lures along the bottom but always get stuck so i started using just a hook bobber and worms/garlic salmon eggs but i swear they just seem to take it off the hook lol. So i came to the conclusion if i use a fly on the surface or some kind of lure thatll ride along the bottom well, with a good jig on my part, if they take it they TOOK it and ill get a catch hehe. I was just wondering about the fly part cause it obviously cant be that heavy or itll sink, but if its too light how do you cast it lol? See like a said alot of noob questions =) Ive been out there everyday different times getting a feel for stuff but if i dont come up with something soon to teach my girl shes gonna lose the thrill for it and then that makes it harder for me to fish!!! Any help would be awesome -----Burn it slow!!!---- Chalkie

I usually use live bait for fishing, mostly when im trolling. Put the hook through the minnows spine and out the side. It will still swim on the hook and cant get pulled off easy. That or use an artificial with a little extra worm or something on the end.

I like the idea of using minnows tho id be alittle worried casting them out....maybe not. But and artifical sounds good but like i said i cant seem to stay off the bottom so i just lose lure after lure lol

Fly's only work with a fly fishing rod.The line is the weight for casting and floats when it hits the water.
When bottom fishing you will always hang up once in a while. The trick is to cast it out and not move it till you reel it back in.Moveing the bait when it is on the bottom will pull your bait under rocks and into branches.
When useing a bobber and live bait use the smallest bobber that will not sink with the weight you are useing. This will also show the small nibbles better than a big bobber.Watch the bobber for any movement, many times it will move sideways and not ever bob up and down.
I wish i had the cash value of all hooks, sinkers, plastic jigs and crankbaits i have lost.OPH

absolutely love fishing - my dad actually made a video back in the 80's teaching people how to flip a jig. I need to dig some of those copies up and ebay those bitches.

i dont fly fish, mainly bass, panfish, and pike. but yea fly fishing work well with top feeders like trout. i good place to pick up tackle is bass pro shops. or u can try modells or sports authority, or try some local shops.

i love fishing, i loved it befor i even started smoking. and fishing is always fun weither high or sober. its just you and the water, and honestly there is no greater feeling.

I've been fishing since I was five and have caught just about everything that swims in the Gulf of Mexico. I finally gave it up though after doing a bit of research. Fish feel pain just like mammals and birds do. It was a tough choice, but I made the adjustment. No more fishing.

I fish usually 3-4 times a week depending on the weather.
I don't like to fish while it's raining.

I don't try catch anything specific, cuz I throw everything back.
Plus, where I go the fisherman books recommend that you don't eat the fish due to all the crap in the water.

For me I fish with worms.
I cast out, sit down on my chair, crack open another beer, Smoke a bowl, and relax.

I don't call myself a fisherman.
I'm just out there to collect my thoughts.
