first time

Hello everybody, this will be my first time growing, I've read up on everything from outside to inside growing. still have a few questions about how I'll be asserting this up. i will be doing out inside, in my closet as my apartment lets in to much light currently. i plan on saying small,2-3 plants until i get the hang of it and Gerry butter systems. my main question is how to keep it cheap, seeing prices of bulbs and fans to vents people say they use it's just out of my price range. I'm thinking of going with the spiral energy saving ones with my pants, when their ready, in a5 gal pot. guess I'm just asking how other people did out their first time with not much knowledge.
thank you

My first grow was with nothing more than a hollowed out dresser, a small fan and like 6 20 watt cool and warm light cfl's. Looking back on it all I would have been better off with 3 to 4 54 watt cfl's. Two cool white and two warm white bulbs. They are fairly cheap.

Thanks, I was thinking about a dresser too, just wasn't to sure about how to light it. not a fan of destroying it to hang some in it lol

I made mistakes, but am doing alright for my first time because didn't just jump into it without much knowledge like most people do. I bought books from Amazon, I watched YouTube videos, I searched and read forum threads, etc. Most of the Cannabis books that are available on Amazon can be downloaded online for free too..

I don't know what to tell you... Growing indoors, compared to outdoors, takes more money, knowledge, and the right equipment. If you don't have enough of any of the aforementioned, then you're not going to do very well. All you really need though is a dark place where you can control the lighting, a regular oscillating fan to move air, pot, soil, CFL (spiral) lighting, nutes, and the right temperatures. Keep in mind that with CFLs, you're not going to get much off of the plant....

Maybe optional: Your plants need a fresh supply of CO2, so if you're closet does not have proper ventilation, you're going to need to at least buy a cheap Inline Booster Fan for about $30 bucks and some ducting to exchange the air.

Also optional: You stated that you live in an apartment, so I take it that smell will be an issue? Then you're going to need to figure out how you're going to deal with that too, because the smell may very well take over your entire house as well as travel outside of your home.

Thanks doniboy, smell isn't really a concern, I get a draft into my apartment from outside with just leaving my living room window cracked. Out of all the forums, videos and how to guides I've read, your the first person to say anything about Amazon, never even crossed my mind! Yield isn't a major concern at this point,a little or a lot. I can always improve once I know what I'm doing, just want to make sure I don't kill my plants,a little is better than nothing right? Another question popped into my head since you brought up the whole CO2 thing, I have 2 different closets I was thinking about using, one smaller one and one larger one, I guess you could say a small walk in closet. For the larger one, would it be necessary to vent it, or would just a fan work?

If air can freely flow into either closet via any cracks or openings, then you don't necessarily need an inline fan to vent. If the room is sort of closed off, then you'll need to exchange the air... Either way, you'll still need that oscillating fan...
