First Time : When to Prune?

Hey people. What an awesome resource this is. I've certainly learned loads from this place already so thank you to everyone.

Hopefully you can help me with my question. Please see my 2 and a half week old plant attached. It's coming along very well now with lots of leaf growth, starting to smell nice now too :)

I don't have have a great deal of space so can't raise the lights much higher so perhaps I don't need to prune her at all, but I want a nice short and bushy plant. It's for my own personal use so I don't mind if the yield is a little on the small side. I'm using 2 CFLs which seem to be doing the trick at the moment on an 18/6 cycle.

Would you prune to encourage wider growth? Also when should I do it? There's not much to snip at right now.

Finally; how's it looking?

You don't need to prune that. I only prune because my plant ends up literally having hundreds of fan leaves. Something that small I wouldn't dare.

Cheers Mr Shim. Would love to see a picture of that!

If I snip the main stem though, it'll grow outwards right? I'm not necessarily talking about foliage cover, just the shape of it.

Yes if you top the plant it will, but you still have to train the plant to grow outwards by tying down fan leaves and the shoots.

Here's two from my pineapple express grow...

i wouldnt prune yet but i dont prune unless i have too. if you want a short bushier plant you could top or fim her. i would top her and low stress train the growth to grow around the pot by tying her down. then when she goes into flower all your buds will be growing upward towards the light. if thats your only plant you will get the best yield that way.

topping vs. fimming

Looks good. I also would not touch the plant yet.

However, a lot of growers recommend putting the plant into its final (or at least larger) pot when the plants leaves reach out wider than the pot they're in.

But if he's tryin to keep her small a small pot would be better?

I got about a foot and a half in height and 2 foot width. It's actually set up in the cupboard under the stairs with a sloped roof so not much space at all to play with. But it's all I've got. I'm using 2 35w CFLS on her right now. 2150 lumens each.

Lol i did the same shit man plant looked lost.
If your in a bigger space then i just let em be. The plant'll tell you all you need to know you just gotta get a few run in to learn how to read them.
Iv pruned/not pruned and Imo i dont think theres much difference either way. I see the logic behind both trimmin/pruning and letting them just do there thing and its all personall prefference man.
Theres lotsa threads here on this topic and theres no right or wrong its what works for you.

If you want a bushy that is low and bushy vs tall then you should LST it. Take wires and use them to make the plant bend at as close to a 90 degree angle as you can. then it will be able to be grown around the pot making a bunch of main same size colas all even height and evenly close to the light with some more lst of those branches.. Just make sure you flower once you har all the tops at roughly the same height so that you dont have to bend them too much when they are full of flowers and you can no longer veg through a bad wound.

A foot and a half. Bro that aint a deal. Id consider a move man. Wardrobe? Id say you need 2.5-3 foot space 2 foot min iv pull a 1 zip plant (well a couple of them) outta 26" tall space with 125w of cfl plants finished @ 17".
Bring her foward in the coupboard where theres more space but i think youd be better off and struggle less with a lil more hieght bro

18" - good fucking luck! Remove the space for the light and pot and you have nada. Sorry to sound bad but my guess if that if you flipped her today and kept her in that pot you already are in trouble once she starts stretching in flower.

I have a 24" cab I use for clones, seedlings, moms, etc. I did a 12-12 from seed grow using a LED light that only takes 1". I had to bend the fuck out of her and she still grew straight into the light.
