Chicken wire is to prevent deer or critters from munching on you plants. I think some people also use it for lower branch support. If you bury part of the wire it will help keep critters from digging under it.

thanks everyone. My sunlight is probably on average 12-14 hrs a day but thats not completely accurate because sometimes its cloudy all day or rains and othr days its sunny all day..Mother nature is kinda just doin its thing i have just been checking on it every day being careful not to over water it and checking for pests or signs of animals trying to eat my baby! i just put the plant into that 5 gallon bucket about a week ago and drilled holes on the bottom for drainage. it keeps some pests away since it is off the ground and around he bucket i have pest pellets to kep out slugs and bigger insects. Just organic soil and water every few waterings i water with a mixture of dark molasses and water about a teaspoon for a gallon of water..it helps sped up growth with the glucose in the molasses. thats about all i do it is estimated to produce over a half pound so i guess we will see. thanks everyone for your posts much appreciated...one love
