Hello, SWIM is preparing to grow marijuana in his closet. SWIM has nearly all the materials needed for the grow except a dehumidifier & seeds which will both be purchased within the next few days. SWIM has done extensive reading online, on this site and others on methods and has chosed to grow hydroponically with 100% perlite with Hempy bucket style, despite reading this may be difficult for a newbie. SWIM is also planning to germinate seeds with wet paper towel method, then put in mini-hempy bucket (16 oz solo cup of perlite) and allow to root and sprout, then finally transfer to 3 gal bucket. SWIM thinks that with help from the experienced community he can pull it off. SWIM intends on growing 2-3 plants at a time due to limited closet space. The strain chosen is Northern Lights, because of it's fast growing speed, low odor and durability (this is the most important to me as I need an easy start). SWIM is very very interested in growing and has been for years and is finally getting ready and is very excited. SWIM is unable to set up HIID lights at this time due to lack of ventilation in grow room to keep area cool from heat produced by HIID lights. SWIM is using about 10-11 CFL bulbs and is hoping this will still be strong enough light output for a decent yield. SWIM has 1 pint each of Florabloom, Floragrow & Floramicro.

Most important questions:
After paper towel germination and seeds have sprouted, SWIM is wondering after the sprouted seed has been transferred to mini-hempy bucket, how often should it be watered and should it be given nutes this early in seedling stage or should SWIM not give the seedling nutes until it has been transferred to 3-gal hempy bucket?

Also, once transferred from mini-hempy bucket to 3-gal hempy bucket (yet roots are not yet long enough to reach bottom of reservoir yet) how often and how much water should be given and should it be given nutes at this stage?

Does anyone have a detailed watering schedule that SWIM could make use of?

SWIM is unsure of whether or not to feed plants with nutes every feed or not, and SWIM is very unsure of the amount of water a plant should receive when watering (like literal amount of water to give plant SWIM does not have a green thumb).....(yet).

Is flushing bottom reservoir of water and nutes (bottom 2 inches of buckets below drilled in holes) necessary and if so how often and how is this done?

SWIM has read that it is and it isn't necessary and is unsure.

Not so important question:

Is keeping the marijuana plant shorter and wider too difficult for a first time grower or is there an easy method? Because SWIM has limited closet space, (especially height), this is why Northern Lights strain was chosen but SWIM is still afraid they may grow too tall. Closet height is about 4-5 ft tall.

Also what does "topping" the plant mean lol, SWIM is quite a newb. And when should swim "top" and how is it done?

Also what is LST and is that way too advanced for SWIM or is it a necessary thing so that the top branches and leaves don't hog all the light?

Please help it will be greatly appreciated!

There's plenty of thread on what you are looking for I believe you can find some of the things you are requesting throught advance marijuana cultivation. You can check there and the ":swim" this is unessecary and annoying we all know it's you regardless.

First and foremost, coming from CFL to HIID experience, a 400 watt hps creates less heat than TEN 27 watt CFL's, and produces WAY more herb....

on to the questions:

-from germination move to a 16oz(ish) cup for a couple weeks, then to the 3gal hempy
-nutrients should not be given at this stage, wait until the plant starts to lighten just a little bit before feeding it the first time, water should only be given when the top of the soil is dry to the touch and the pot is SIGNIFICANTLY less heavy (every 2-5 days depending on heat, air flow, plants needs, etc.) in hempy you want the roots to search for the water that rests at the bottom of the bucket
-plant watering is reliant on how much YOUR plant needs, no one else's watering "schedule" may be right for your plants
-in hempy buckets the general idea is to give nutrients the entire grow...
-you should be watering to about 35%-50% waste... that means if you have a completely dry 3 gallon pot, you should water until it wastes about 1-1.5 gallons, some hempy growers put an air stone rigged up to an air pump at the bottom in the water to add more dissolved oxygen and make it easier for the roots to uptake water/nutrients, also helps to prevent root rot and slime. Though when you water from the top, it should create enough movement at the bottom to flush out the older more stagnant water and this should not be a problem.
-watering to 40% waste should create enough movement that you shouldn't have to "flush"

-keeping a plant smaller/shorter is easily accomplished by reducing the amount of time the plant remains in a vegetative state
-I'm done giving you freebie answers.... you'll have to use google or the handy search bar at the top of this page to find out about LST and topping... Check out UncleBen's "FIM" and topping guide. You're gonna have to read A LOT more if you want to learn!

GOOD LUCK

BTW what the fnck does SWIM mean anyway?
