First time growe

Using grow box from dealerz with 6 6500k full spectrum Cfl fro veg and will be switching to 6 2700k soft light for flowering. Seed germinated and 1 week into vegetation and everything looks good. Question i have, i am ready to change the water in my reservoir but not sure what is best way to do this. My reservoir is 3 gallons. WhAt i plan on doing is preparing they new water with correct Ph and nutrient levels in separate three gallon buckets. Take the lid with net pots in place off reservoir i want to change water. Place lid on top of empty 3 gallon reservoir while i empty grow reservoir and sanitize with H202 and fill with new nutrient solution. I will then put lid with net pots in place back on reservoir with fresh nutrient water. Am i doing this correct and will there be an damage to roots if sat outside of water for a couple of hours. If i am way off base, any better/easier way to do this. Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds right to me. Your roots will be fine as long as you are careful with them, and they should be okay without water for a few hours. On my ebb and flow system I am only watering every 6 hours. Just take your time and don't make mistakes : )

Turn off the res outlet, and inlet if rdwc ( valves between all buckets and the res are nice) and turn off all bucket valves.. Drain, clean, and fill the res first, but don't open any valves until totally done with your change. Then I keep one extra bucket to replace the first bucket...clean and fill that one and move to the next bucket, etc. until done. This works well if you configure like this...res...valve...hose...female quick coupler...male quick coupler...hose...valve...bucket...valve...hose...quick coupler...quick coupler..hose...valve...bucket, etc. so you have 2 valves and quick couplers between each bucket/res. You can then at the beginning, turn off all valves, and uncouple everything. Then every bucket and your res(s), are each seperate entities. Makes it easy to clean and add or subtract the number of buckets in the system. I also use 2 res's with valves next to them T'd into the supply lines so I have an extra res for convenience in cleaning them. Also makes it easy to age the tap water and dial in ph, nutes, ppm, etc in the second res before it's needed. You really only need the one extra bucket to start the cleaning cycle, and since you can isolate the res, and you are filling each bucket as you go, you can get by with 1 res. The root balls don't spend a lot of time out of the water, and you don't have to figure out how the hell you are gonna set the mess somewhere while you are cleaning their home. Sounds kinda complicated, but is really very simple. The extra valves, couplers, etc. are only a one time cost if you keep them clean, unless you expand. Takes a little more time to set up but it saves you time in Spades when changing water all the time. I hope my explanation isn't indecipherable. Any questions, just ask. Peace & be kind.
