first time grow setup help ?

as the title says this is gonna be my first time grow for my personal use simply because i don't wanna keep dealing with shady characters to get my green , im only going to be planting one or two and yield is not a huge concern obviously the higher the better but id be happy with any amount. since money is a problem then i don't really have much to spend on a setup maybe £50 if im lucky and also im based in the uk,
since im on a budget im using some old aquarium lights from my tanks one is a 24w T5 which puts out 6500 kelvin and i have another which im not sure the stats on but puts out a bright blue light will these lights at least grow something or am i fooling myself?
the grow will be happening in my loft/attic simply with the light hanging quite close to the plant and the plant being in a 1mx1m box with some tin foil around the sides to maximise light?
as for ventilation im unsure as what to do since my loft has some ventilation coming in and out from outside and the wind tends to be strong enough airate the loft , would this provide enough ventilation to mask the smell ?

You could likely Veg two plants with that but the growth will be slow. You will need to add CFL during flowering. I have heard people talk of strains that don't have a strong smell that might work in your space but I have never grown one

Lose the tinfoil,if that's all you have for reflection you will be better off without it.

ill get rid of the tinfoil tonight aswell , just curious but how come it'll be better off without it ?

also i think i am going to setup some sort of filtration to try get rid of the odour , how would i go about setting it up ? only ideas i got is a fan to try push air outta the ventilation slits in my loft roof ?

go to the diy section and look up how to make your own carbon filter. Odor control is paramount! Not only does it prevent policia from finding out it keeps thieves from finding out. Like the above poster stated lose the tin foil. Paint the insides flat white or get some mylar. For cheap mylar the emergency blankets/cloaks can be used, they are made of mylar. okay awesome ill go check that stuff out and tin foil is gone to, just curious but if you had activated carbon around the room would that also help ? since the only problem i can foresee is the plant won't be in a seperate section of the loft its just gonna be in a corner , should i consider building a seperate section just money is a real issue , there will only be one plant growing at a time possibly a max of two?

also im thinking about changing the box for a small fish tank i have and hanging two 45w cfls in there and adjusting as the plant grows since less fire risk and easier to control the conditions inside

yh those lights u got perfect 4 young clones but wud advise cfl 2 speedem up after that,, u cn buy duel spectrum cfl which wud do veg and flowering ,,paint interior of walls of watever ur using white ,,, tin foil bad!! causes hot spots n burn plants .as 4 ventilation i wud look in2 small fan 2 pull air out,,4'' wud be more thn enough , u got intake sorted..if u cn lead smell upwards out of roof sumhow i think ud get awat without filter 4 1 / 2 plants ...keep us posted dude... happy growing

thanks for all the advice guys , after spending pretty much all day doing research my setup will be :

2x45 watt cfl - 2 bright daylight initially and then switch to one bright daylight and one warmwhite during flowering.
a sillent ionic ioniser air purifier , which is relatively cheap and can have carbon put inside it ,
The plant will be in my small fishtank until it gets to tall and ill just take off the lid , it'll be near the loft ventilation so hopefully that'll deal with the smell along with the ionic ioniser
as for seeds im thinking some feminized northern lights so then i know its a female if im just growing the one at a time and northern lights apparently is less smelly than others ,
for planting medium im still looking into it but from the sound so of it the coco coir is most forgiving for begginers so may go with that

how does all that sound for a basic very low budget setup ?

nooo , dnt spend 20quid on them m8..i broke my 125w cfl a while ago and i went 2 ASDA -- ND got a few bulbs fr 4quid each which wer 30 odd watts but output 120 wen warm up nd i got clones 2 decent size with em......

ahhh awesome ill look into that i found some for like £10 each is that a good price for the 45w ones ? also as for my setup am i looking at a alright yield or is there more i could do ?

u cnt use them 4 flowering m8 ,,u need different light spectrum that contains reds/orange ...blue/white = veg...

you would def need the cheapest duel spec cfl in my opinion m8 ,,or ur hard work will be in vain ....got to hav the reds n orange tint in light or will produce nish/nowt/nada...!

how warm can u get ur tank..is it cold in ur attic??? need warmth aswell

check-out Ebay dude ,,u always come across ppl giving up grows n sellin shit dirt cheap,,, my 1st grow a year ago,,i got 2 x 600w lights ,ballasts, rhino filter ( top ov range) shit load of mylar and full bottle o Big Bud nutrients for 120quid,,,pure bargain o wat...!!

alright ill check out ebay for some duel spec bulbs, it should stay fairly warm especially since its got a lid aswell and the lights can be contained inside until they get to about a foot and then ill just pop the lid off and its coming up to summer , its warm in the attic due to all the insulation up there and it keeps it quite humid too which will be good for the plants if im not mistaken very nice , i gotta keep mine quite a stealth grow considering i gotta try and hide it from my girlfriend until i get her onside haha,
