I went home at lunch after the thunderstorms in the area cleared out and set them outside. It's currently like 79* with 65% humidity and temp will drop down a few degrees per hour. Tonight i'm going to bring them back in. I've also bought a 2700K CFL and some mounting hardware...should be pretty sweet. Pics to come tonight...

Update Day 5 in Soil:

All 8 plants have popped the surface, to varying degrees.

I'm trying to get as much full spectrum light as possible. I have seen great auto grows with 2700K all the way through. I appreciate what you are saying though, but i'm just gunna roll with it!

Anyway, I set the babies outside this morning today because there isn't a cloud in the sky, temps are perfect and theres a little breeze! The babies seem to be loving it. I plan to put them in their final 3 Gal's on Saturday.

Again, sorry about the crappy pics. Cell phone is best i can do! let me know how they look!!!

These are the BR's

No good pics of the mystery seeds yet because their only 1 plant really above the surface, not enough to post.

They are progressing quite well. After five days my little girl was still the same height...and I had her outside. I agree with what you're saying about just let her roll. I'm still trying to figure out the spectrums and such but my girl is doing well under her one light. I'm always of the opinion that sun light is the best light but you roll with what ya got! Looking forward to seeing their maturation!
About that mystery seed...was it a feminized seed or just a really scooby doo mystery?

100% mystery. I mean I have NO CLUE what they are.

The only thing I know for sure is that they are definitely photo plants. They came from my GF's Aunt's Husband. He grew her a couple plants and is very, very limited. Like, we're talking still from the 80's type knowledge. But he does know the difference between male and females. He said he had some males and saved the seeds. I dont even know how old they are.

Sounds like a Scooby mystery to me...eventually you'll unmask the culprit!
I like that...80s type knowledge..I gotta use that sometime!

Check out my new closet setup for inside time...

IMAG0079 - Copy.jpg

The power strip has some holes in the back where you can place a screw on the inside and attach it, so there are two screws in the wall which it is actually hanging from.
Then, you'll notice on the each far end of the strip, I placed one screw on the left side to keep it from tilting forward and two screws on each side of the cord.

What you guys think?

BR's are the back four, Scooby Seeds (thanks FOP) are the outside cups.

Nice idea! I might use that idea as some extra side lighting on my next grow. It seems you get more light directed at the plants placing them horizontally like you have than you would if you hung them directly overhead vertically like most people do. Maybe you could fashion a little reflector hood or something above them to reflect more of the light?

Hey Man! That's not a bad Idea with the hood....hmmmm. I'll have to think about that today.

I actually do have a tent that I am using to cover the opening to my closet and the light reflects off the mylar in the tent. Basically all i've done is open the tent up and hang it like a sheet, but you are right, something right above the lights to reflect back down would be ideal...

The hamster is running...

having the bulbs horizontally like that increases the light the plants get. 20/4 or 18/6 is what I would recommend as a light cycle as I believe a dark period is beneficial. I also think that if you are going to run it 24/0 you should introduce a dark period before the plants permanently move outside.

With transplanting you are correct autos do not really enjoy it, so try to get it moved by the time its 2 weeks old 2.5 if you must. You want to have some recovery time before the stretch starts - when the plant is three weeks old. Its a bit late to try now but if you keep growing this way you could try bottomless solo cups. Cut the bottom of a solo cup off and place into another (drainable) solo cup. Then when its time to transplant you take off the bottom cup and plant the top one. If you are careful you could probable cut the cup into pieces and get it out a week or so after the transplant.

With hardening off the leaves should feel a bit tougher and the plant will raise its fan leaves and petioles (leaf stems) up when its happy. So the more fans are raised rather than drooping or clawing the more the plant likes the conditions. So as they adjust to the outside they should get used to the conditions and thus raise their fan leaves.
Go to your spot at various times of day and see where the sun lands, when and how hot it is. The plants do not need continuous sun light, and so if possible have them be (partially) shaded during the hottest part of the day - this reduces/ avoids heat stress and water loss.

Are you thinking in some kind of pots outside or straight in the ground? and as a follow up do you have access to good soil?

Dan,

Thanks very much for the guidance and input. I will pay attention to what you have said as I go through this grow.

In regards to hardening, when it's nice out, what i've been doing is setting them in a fully shaded spot in the morning while i'm at work from 8-12. Then I check on them at lunch since I live close. At about 1230 with the way my place casts a shadow, they are then in the sun full bore until I get home @ about 530. Then I bring them inside under the CFL'S. This is my current cycle. Of course I make sure the soil is properly hydrated during the heat. Temps have been about 65 or so in the morning creeping to 80-84 during peak right now before I bring them inside. Humidity has been 50-65%. When they are more mature and I put them among the vegetation, there should be a pretty good mix of sun and shade on the whole plant. My idea was just to mimic a natural outdoor environment as much as possible.

Thoughts on all of that welcome please...

In regards to your questions...

I will have them in drainable 3 gal pots which they are going into on Saturday for the remainder of their lives, which will be about 1 week in soil. My plan was to make my soil mix, then put an empty solo in the middle and carve out the space needed for the transplant. Then i'm going to place the cups they are in right now into the soil, gently cut away the cup, remove cup, and gently hand move the soil to make sure everything is packed right and fitted. Shouldn't disturb any roots at all I don't think.

And to the second half, yes, i have access to every single imaginable soil there is. Currently I have a very simple FFOF and Perlite mix at a 50/50 ratio and this what I am planning on using throughout the entire grow. I will be adding veg and bloom nutes from GH when the time comes, veg starting around week 2 and into the first week of flowering signs, bloom after that.

Again, thoughts on that or anything above welcome!

Update day 8 in Soil:

I have completed the transfer and the BR's are now in their final pots, which are the 3 gal pots described above.

The mystery seeds are still in solo's and i'll be transferring them over soon. I need another bag of perlite and FFOF, as well as pots.

BR Pics below. Again, please excuse the cell phone pics. I took some next to solo's to try to give some scale on size. Please let me know what you guys think of them thus far.

My kitty Owen says, check em out!! He's high on Cat nip

Well, I have ran into my first problem. Not sure if it's a huge deal, but I could use some insight. I don't have pics because I didnt have time this morning.

Story is I woke up and one of the plants was laying completely sideways against the soil as if it had fallen over. It wasn't broken or anything, i think it's just because of a fairly skinny stem and top heavy leaves.

So I sort of propped it back to standing straight by piling up the dirt around the stem, except the leaves are turned sideways now, almost like an accidental LST'ing.

Any thoughts? I will get pics in about 3 hours
