First seedlings!

Just excited and wanting to share as these are the first seeds I've planted. I wanted to make sure I had at least the basic idea of what I was doing down so I started with germinating some seeds I'd collected over the last year or so. I think the term used is bag seeds?
To my surprise, over half of them have sprouted!
The one kinda in the middle was the first one to come up and seemed to be stretching a little so I lowered my light.
I have a 4 bulb T8 hood that I have them under. It's now at around 5".
I put these seeds in early early Tuesday morning. One on the bottom left pushed its cover off this morning.
When should I give up on the other seeds that haven't done anything yet?

it can take a week to ten days, just depends. i plant straight into soil, usually takes 3 to 5 days, but i'll let them go a full two weeks before i just give up.

after about a week, if i don't see anything, i'll dig around gently, see if its gotten twisted up, sometimes i've found them growing sideways under the soil, i've set them straight and they grew into pretty good plants.

I have a fairly large RDWC system that theyll be going in thats ready to go. Want to give them a good start in the trays and ill transplant them into the system with top feed lines. The plugs are Rapid Rooters, ill be able to drop them right in my net pots.
Figured it would be easier and much more efficient doing it this way.

I guess it has only been 3 days, feels like its been at least a week.

Lookin' good! Just wait on the other seeds at least a week. Yes, I said a week. I've had seeds take up to a week or longer. Since your using bag seed (yep that's the term) you really aren't sure on genetics and some verities take longer. Keep them moist, but not wet, and warm. I'd move the light up a few inches till they get bigger.

New growers tend to love 'em too death. Just give them what they need and be patient.

Yes im trying really really hard to not over do it.
Ive just been giving them a misting a few times a day with a spray bottle as they start drying out.
I over watered a bit the first night and made adjustments, so ive already learned something.

They can be 1 inch away from bulb. Just make sure you have a little air flowing over the top.

7 bigger ones are from the first group of bag seed. None of the others appear to have done anything.
Needed a few more so I had to drop 5 more in from ones I bought. They're at 3 days, one has been a bit slower so its still in the dark on the shelf below.
Bottom right should pop up tonight.
Middle left one looks like it may be stuck on the wall near the top of the hole, shell already fell off and leafs are spreading so I took the cover off to see if it grows up tonight.
temp has stayed right around 75F and 50% humidity under the light. I think ive got a better grasp on how much to water. These rooters are kinda deceptive about how much moisture they still have in them.

Just remember, cannabis does better in the dry, than in a flood. Don't water too much. Letting it dry out, makes the roots grow looking for water.

yeah, that one doesn't look so good, i bet there are no roots attached to that anymore, probably damped off under the surface

Now, I warn you, I am a newb. But I thought I would share my experience with you.

I had a seedling just like that when I started. Actually, the whole seed shell was stuck on mine. Once I got the Shell off, it looked just like that. There is a membrane that got stuck over the leaves. I had to spray it with mist and peel it off so the leaves could open. I believe that is what may have happened here.

Just get a pin or something and open it up. It's just stuck

3 days is a long time, it might be good, it might be dead, let us know if it pops back up

So I think I got to the one i posted too late. It was stuck in the inside membrane and I also over watered it as well. I gave it assistance yesterday afternoon, but It still hasnt budged at all.

I did notice one other seeding having issues with its shell, it kept growing up but hadn't split its shell yet.
Last night I split the shell and gently peeled away that membrane. This seems to have recovered nicely from it. This had its shell on it and pale flimsy looking first leaf set less than 12 hours ago.

Bottom pic shows a plant getting strangled by a stubborn seed cap that refuses to drop away. Take 2 toothpicks and gently peel off the dessicated seedcap so the leaves can open properly.

i know this isn't an option in hydro, but i've gone to just planting seeds directly into my medium (peat mix with added perlite, and some amendments) about an inch and a half or two inches deep. when they pop up they're ready to go, the soil has removed both the seed and the membrane. i may soak a seed for 6 hours if they've taken a long time to pop in the past, otherwise, straight into the pot

I learned this the hard way.
Half the seeds are from ILGM. They're all breaking the surface in around 48 hrs. But The black widow and Skywalker og both seem to have a tendency to get stuck. 4 of 6 I planted of those 2 stains needed help out and a few of them ended up dying because I was too late on helping them.
I got a healthy looking set now and they're on low nutrients with a top feed now

I've also learned the hard way. Now I make sure that all sprouts going into dirt have already lost the seedcap. If the cap is still present when it's dirt time I grab the toothpicks and remove them first. Works for me.

I found a pair of trimmers that have a really small tip that have worked perfect for prying them open. I also had 2 that dropped the shell but the cotyledons got stuck together at the edges and needed a little snip. I got a good range of stuff that I was able to learn from.
