First scrog grow, when should I flower her?

Hi guys,
This is my second grow, so Im still really green. Probably an overused pun around here. So, my question is this: When should I start flower? I still have perhaps some 30-40 cms to take advantage of heightwise. The plant is a White Widow, she's in a 5-gal geopot, under a led from area-51 and up until now has eaten some 15-15-15 on three occasions. Any advice or criticism is warmly welcomed. I know this may not be really scrog, at first I started mainlining then some branches grew more vigurously than others so I started being selective when topping and eventually ended up adding this screen to divide the branches more evenly. 2014-03-08 19.03.38.jpg2014-03-08 19.03.25.jpg2014-03-08 19.03.13.jpg

Looking good, I would say that White Widow has a tendency to stretch to 3 times the height which could be a problem if you don't have much height to play with. So it may be a good idea to flower now as it will keep you busy tucking her in for the next couple of weeks.

Yes totally get onto flowering with only 30-40 cm of height left. The initial stretch can be surprising. Plant looks great too, well done so far. Enjoy.

Thanks for your answers, guys! First of all, didnt really expect it to stretch that much. Is it a nice stretch with dense budding, or am I going to look at much nudity at the internodal areas? Should I supercrop all my branches before starting stretch or put the light a little close than the recommended to limit it, or is it a desired stretch? Just to be sure, Ill measure up again to be sure once the lights come back on. Thanks again :)!

Just like to note that Im not in a hurry, still have some smoke from the first run. I just want to max out the space and fill it up. On monday Im buying stuff to build a bubble-cloner, in case this WW should turn out great, which I really hope for, then I plan of making her perpetual. But lets see. I think the breeder was Seedsman. Next time Im buying in, its definitely going to be some grade a seeds, just really hard for a newbie to know what seeds to buy. So much marketing, so many breeds, so many variations and so many silly names.

I'd say put her into flower now honestly. You're gonna get another week or 2 of growth from her before she starts to bud.

There are a couple tricks to decrease stretching. If you are veg under HID (MH bulb) then leave it first couple weeks during stretch before you go to HPS. Second hold of on bloom foods until after the stretch period. Some move lights a little closer but you will need to keep an eye on things so your light is not too close. Plants grow grow rapidly overnight. You want your plants to not be stressed going into flowering. Any training, transplanting, etc. I will do a week or so before (7-10 days) to let them get back on track. I would flip them now keep tucking them. You can pinch the tops lightly, kind of roll your finger around like a light supercrop technique but I would just go into flower and let them be. Looks good, you can also clean out some of the lower growth but I like to wait for that as well, just before two week stretch is over.

Thanks guys, just to be on the safe side, Ill wait till Ive taken my clones on monday. But it really means that Im working against the clock, which I didnt think would be the case. And thanks rwbrock, but Im doing it all under my LED. Dont know if it will matter much, I did have an ok first grow yield-wise, though I wouldnt know to compare with HID or HPS. The LED is area-51's model from 2013. Ive been vegging under 120w and when flowering Ill add the last 60w of red light. I dont have any bigger pots, but I know they wont be rootbound in these geopots, which are working out wonderfully, I just hope the root system will be big enough to give me some thick branches to hold what hopefully will be very dense nuggets :)

well, since the fun-part is about to begin, I can keep updating this thread if anybody would be interested. I know its not some fancy comparison, but egoistically speaking it would be really nice to have some expert knowledge to fall back on :hump: hehe. For further photos Id include a meter band next to the plant/colas to give a better idea of how it's improving.

Post away, it's always nice to see how these things end up! If you try and take your photo's from the same position every time it makes it easier to compare them, so you can track your progress easier.

ok thanks again. Ill lower the plant an additional 20 cm on monday, and fill the screen out some more, take some clones (try >.<) and start flower. I really want this one to be the best plant ever.

Seedsman is a good brand, I have great experience with there Skunk 1# at the moment, in my "scrog"

DSC03292.jpg

tho stretch doing 12/12 on this strain is really minimal, not even 100% more like 50% with tight Nod space

And you could easily flower now, keep tucking in the shoots for the first 2-3 weeks (the stretch) and it will fill in the rest of the screen with side shoots (a bit like I did on the Skunk 1# in the pic)

Super cropping could do the same but I wouldn't recommend to do it in flowering (do it a few days before you switch to 12/12 if you want to try it ?) might stress it in to a hermi (been there)

and continue with your 15-15-15 nuts them first 3 weeks, once it stopped it stretch you should turn down the Nitrogen a bit and use some 2-5-5 or similar

p.s.

About the distance from the LEDs, do follow the recommendations (if its there new 3750K light with 5W chips from A51) keep it minimum at 20", or there is a chance of bleaching, and instead of moving it down in flowering use the flowering options and turn on all of the LEDs

Hi Slipon. thanks for your input. Its not their newer models, but the LEDs are 5w. The veg mode is 4500k at 120w with 5w lamps and the red light is at 630nm to add some extra in flower. Im trying my best to keep the recommendations, and this time it is not going to be a problem as Ive been able to keep the plant much lower with some training and topping. Ill find some more nutes for the mid and late flower period. A product called Namaste here seems to be a good choice. Your scrog looks great. How many bud sites are from main branches?

thats one plant in the picture (I have four going in a "scrog" similar to yours)

been topped/M-lined a bit in Veg to get 4 main collars then bend/trained under the "scrog" once I moved them from the T5HOs and in under the LEDs to spread out the plant and let it shoot it side shoots up

Here is all four plants

been doing similar stuff to tree of em, last one (left front in the picture) is a clone I just let go to get one main cola (actually first time in two years and +10 grows I did`t train or top or FIM or sum thing)

How do you find growing with no training? I plan take 8-10 clones from this one, and hopefully clone them all and start to go SoG little by little. Id give them some veg though, not directly, I like some side shots ;)

hey SLip, how did you find the hempy bucket? I can remember you tried it out some, what did you think about it? I figure it would be an easy transplant option for the clones instead of going from the bubbler to soil, it sounds like something that would stress a young clone

works great, tho I don't see any big different from my organic soil, some how I just like it better, more forgiven and IMO less work other then getting rite of the used soil

and no training is fine, but indoors I almost find some kind of training a must, give the best results/yield, if your going to do a SoG with no training from clone, I would just give em a few weeks after rooting before switching to 12/12 or you end up with too high plants where only the top 1/4 get enough light (pruning is a must here)

you like the soil better then? I think my soil is getting pretty nice, the stems seem to be adding like a node every other day. I simply reused it, but Im kinda onto the hempy, just need to find the nutes for it.... Yeah, Im gonna see to that afterwards, one step at the time. For now its hard enough to find a container that isnt transparent for my cloner. hehe :)
