As long as the temp is between 60-85F (16-29.4C) then you don't need the heat light.

might wanna download a quick "how to grow guide" because it will help you with more specifics such as if you're using cfl's which are the right ones to use.

i'm still new but did a lot of research. T5's (those shoplight tubes) work well as well as cfl's with lumes of 6500k and 2700k. At first your sprout won't need much light, you'll want maybe just 1 and keep it moist. once it starts to grow more you'll get an idea of where else to direct light. Check out some grow journals as well, especially ones using CFL's.

I used to think it was as easy as planting it and putting a light on top....much more to it than that :)

check out this thread i made, shows pics of my grow room and my cfl's and shoplight. its pretty ghetto but grow rooms aren't too important i think. Flower room is where you should be careful heh

if you want to be somewhat serious about it i would suggest building something. The link with my pictures is just a closet under my stairs that i put white bristol board around to reflect light, then screwed in some hooks above into the roof/wood and got chains a cheap shoplight.

you might have to go shopping for some stuff but you can spend $30 and get all you need. also be creative. you can see i used old VHS tapes for stacking my light.

Heres a thread that some guy just used a few hanging CFL's and did really well.

Get at least a few of the 26w CFLs (100w equivalent) and make sure they are the "daylight" or 6500k spectrum. Later, when you put them into 12/12 light schedule for flowering you will want to change to the 2700k CFLs that give more of the red spectrum light. Keep the lights close (1-2" away) so they don't make the plant stretch (but be careful not to let the plants touch them for long as they WILL get burned by even a CFL- it happened to one of mine). When you see a taproot start to peek out of that split seed, don't waste any time getting it planted. The longer the taproot sticks out, the easier it will be to accidentally damage it and kill the seed. You break that taproot, you're done! Tiny root means less chance of knocking it off when you plant.

you won't get far with 14W cfls.
26w are the VERY least, and you would need a lot. I'd start with 45W and higher.

Heat can be provided by keeping the lights closer.

The easiest method is using pre-made soil mix, look for a seedling starting mix to start with in a 500ml container and move to a bigger one with pre-fertilized soil.
Until you'll need to fertilize - learn a bit more.

good luck.
