First personal small grow

hello all

First time poster long time lurker. Some great advice and tips given on here so hoping for some opinions.

Currently live in a flat share. All are roughly my age (23) give or take a few years. All of them toke. It's just the neighbours we are concerned about. My plan is to have a mini grow of 1-3 plants. I have previous experience in helping friends grow so have a rough idea, but never done it for myself personally or usingmy own equipment etc.

This is by no means on a large scale, this will be for personal use only and maybe a couple of ounces to friends if in need of some cash.

Was looking to buy some equipment and stumbled across this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381226193843

Would this be ideal for what I need? Has anyone ever bought anything similar? Will it really mask the smell (that's our main concern)

Any other tips are welcomed

Look forward to keeping everyone updated on my progress and perhaps contribute to this amazing communty

Thats actually a pretty good deal, if you are worried about smell, you may consider a longer carbon filter. But you should be able to get a nice little grow out out of that.

No way. I don't like to see people waste money. I don't see too many starter setups that contain quality components. This one is at the bottom of the list.

1) It's a 4x4 (feet) tent. You need 2x2 or max 3x3 for personal grow.
2) The tent is probably crap and toxic.Won't last long.
3) 4x4 tent requires 600w hps or equivalent. You can grow a forest with a 600.
4) 600w hps in a 4x4 space requires probably a 300 cfm fan and filter to keep things cool..
5) I have no idea what a black orchid light is. You need hps or CMH or something similar with the redish spectrum.

You can pay 167 e for this, fail on your first grow then toss it all out (In your neighbors trash can) or use it for spare parts when you upgrade on your next grow,, .

Better suggestion:
1) 3x3 Apollo Tent $100 on Amazon
2) ipower 400 w switchable digital ballast with mh and hps bulbs.. $120 or so.. (There are better setups, but they cost more)
3) Quality fan and filter. $120 This is a decent deal..Phresh filters are great. http://growershouse.com/hurricane-4-200-cfm-inline-fan-phresh-carbon-filter-combo-package.
4) Fan speed controller..$25 Fans are noisy as heck.

Other things you may need:
5) A few of these light hangers.. http://www.thelashop.com/gardening-accessories-1-pairs-yoyo-grow-light-hangers-150lbs.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwwIKxBRDKhOz7ytT30vkBEiQAT1NaPQB5HitOl_ipM9v6_mX4ZZeB3-UBBcgHO3pntOXTcVAaAtw08P8HAQ
6) Decent pots: I prefer fabric pots.
7) Good soil
8) PH kit (optional if using soil)
9) Quality seeds. ( I prefer feminized seeds so I don't end up with any males)
10) TDS meter ( Awesome tool for $20)
11) Oscilating fan
12) Quality nutrient line such as General Hydroponics, Fox Farms, etc..
13) Water filter (optional, but recommended.)

Spend a little money up front on quality components. The fan and filter will be the most important item to keep you from getting in trouble with your uncool neighbors.. Let me tell you "Beautiful, fresh, budding plants realllly stink up a house or even your entire street. A good filter handles it perfectly as long as you don't open the tent door every 4 hours like I do :)

Here is another idea that won't cost a lot... Clear out a small closet. Get a sunsystems 150w hps ($80 or so).. Get a quality fan and filter. Grab a few autoflower seeds from Herbies Head Shop.(Northern Light x Big Bud grows great and smells less than some other strains) Plant one seed in 3 gallon pot. Place pot under hps after it has sprouted. Giver her some nutes and clean water from time to time.. In 10 weeks you will have 1-2 ounces of quality smoke. Repeat cycle..

One more thought... Set your timer so your lights are on at night. This way you can remove the plants late at night to work on them, flush them, admire them, sing to them, take pictures etc and your neighbors won't smell the bouquet.
