First outdoor grow 2012

What up RIU its that time of the year! I will be attempting an outdoor grow and im going to update it here from seed to finish. For starters I purchased 10 reg top skunk 44 seeds from the attitude and right now theyre being started in a veg box before they are big enough to survive outdoors.
Veg box specs:-I have 6 26 watt daylight bulbs (only running a few right now due to high temps)
-Two cpu intake and outake fans
-Digital thermometer (temp. & humidity)
-Lined with mylar
Very basic but it works
Soil: Hyponex potting soil (about two dollars at walgreens) Ingredients as follows:Hypnum Peat, Forest Products or Compost , Sand , Perilite
Mixed with some back yard compost of my own
Temps:-Range from 72-85F (depending if the A.C is on in my room)
Humidity ranges from High 30's to Low 60's usually

I germinated six of the 10 seeds on may 23rd (Saving 4 as back-ups)
and I placed them in red party cups on the 25th
It is now the 27th and im waiting for these ladies to pop through the soil (I think i may have planted them a little deeper than I would have liked to)

But here are a few pictures of what I have going on so far.

Peace out :leaf: 1.

Can someone take a look at this and tell me what they think

The second one looks retarded,it did pop a day or two later though I dont know if that might be the reason. It just looks stunted

You need more perlite to air out that soil.. and it looks ur watering a little too much.

Kaendar is right you need more perlite in your soil. Some websites say an excess of perlite is bad, but this is not true.

Here are some quotes from Ed Rosenthal's Marijuana Growers Handbook *Official Course Book, Oaksterdam University (California)* (Refer to page 259)
"The particle surface is covered with tiny craters that create an extremely large surface area that can hold the water/nutrient solution. Passages in the structure also hold pockets of air and promote drainage." (referring to perlite)
"Perlite's bright white color protects seeds by keeping them cool and moist even when placed under bright sunlight"
"It reflects light back to plant foliage which further enhances growth."
"Perlite helps young plants overcome environmental stresses."
"Perlite clings to roots and root hairs so they can form a rootball. This reduces transplant shock."
"Perlite is often used as an ingredient in planting mixes. Different sizes are used to afjust water-holding capacity and provide aeration. It keeps the mix lightweight and provides structure since it does not deteriorate."

Hope this helps man.

Thanks for the advice. As far as the perlite can I pick it up at like walmart or home depot? And how much does is cost usually. Also once I purchase it do i have transplant them into new cups with the soil/perlite mixture? or can I just add the perlite on top? (sorry if thats a dumb question hahah)

Just noticed i forgot to mention that 5 out of the 6 popped. I took the 6th one out because it was day 8 and it still hadnt popped I emptied the cup out and the seedling was nowhere to be found ):

The plants are good for now, but when you transplant them put them into a mixture with perlite. You can buy perlite from home depot but I think they only sell the non organic kind (man made). Which works well, but the organic stuff is the best. A bag of it is like 4-9 dollars depending on what size. You can always also just buy soil that already has it in it. Make sure your soil is at least 15-20% perlite. It can be more but this is a good starting point. and yes you can sprinkle it on top. add a bunch and try to mix it in under the top layer and it should get partially mixed in when you water. Plus like it said, it reflects light to the foliage to help growth. Then when you transplant it put it into a mix with more perlite.

And once again dude ur soil looks like mud.. its too moist and doesnt have drainage.. ur catys are dyin cuz of that.

I had just watered them because the soil was crusty and dry. And if that's the case then why are the other ones growing perfectly and this one isnt?
