First Organic Grow..... 9 days old. Fertilizer??

hey everyone, looking for some advice on my first grow.

I am growing barneys farm LSD , and trying to do so all organic.

I had a question on what kind of fertilizer I need to use, Should I make teas? If so... what kind.

My plant is 9 days old, I had to transplant her into a new pot a couple days ago, since the paper cup I sprouted her in was falling apart.

She seems to be doing just fine, but I'm no expert so I was hoping to get a second opinion.

Does my plant look okay to you for 9 days? I am using a 125w CFL 2-3 inches away in a grow tent. I plan to upgrade to 400-600w hps in a couple weeks.
I didn't get to mix my soil as good as I wanted to, since I was on a budget, My mix is 40% soiless organic, 30% worm castings, 25% perlite and a tad of lime.

When and how should I start fertilizing my baby? I was to remain all organic if possible. Does my seedling look normal for its age? It has 12 leaves all together but some are very small and just now coming in.

Is the seedling in the container that you will be flowering her in? If so, you will want to top dress and scratch in some amendments. Espoma makes some good all-in-one products. If you will be transplanting at a later date make sure to mix something similar in to your soil. You will need more than just ewc and perilite to carry you through harvest.

Also, is your relative humidity usually around 64%? You're fine with that right now, but that could present some problems as your buds start to beef up. You're asking for mold if you run your room at that RH.

You should not feed it for another couple of weeks. Figure that you need to establish roots first, and then it can utilize the food that is in the soil. If you want to stay on the organic side, then you should for sure be using chlorine free water and using compost tea. I also recommend the Nectar for the Gods organic nutrient line because it is hands down the highest quality organic nutes on the market. There is a lot of good info online about it. I have been using distilled water in jugs so far. I used tap water to germinate. The plant is in a 3 gallon pot so it will probably be flowering in the same pot its in right now.

I cant seem to get the RH below 60%. , I was hoping that when i upgrade to a 400-600watt hps it will lower my RH. I plan on using a hooded hps with inline fan and duct work in a few weeks. possibly a carbon filter as well.

Seedlings pack their own lunch, the first leaves that pop out, the rounded ones. When those drop off you can think about fertilizer.

One of the Espoma 'tones' would be good, your choice. I like Garden Tone myself. Organic and HD and Lowes both carry it.

You mentioned a 'tad' of lime. A 3 gal container should have ~6tbs of lime, dolomitic or calcitic. Either one, just not hydrated lime. You should snag some kelp meal down the line.

Wait at least 2 weeks before adding the Espoma, 3 would be better. You aren't going to run out of anything in that 3 gal container. Probably only need to water once/week or so for now. Don't overdo it.

Is 4 pounds enough or how much would I need for one plant.

Right now I'm running 24/0 with a 125 watt CFL. At what Age should I swtich to 18/6 ? Or does it not really matter?

So, With that espoma, do you just replace the top couple inches of soil with this stuff? or is it administered in the water? how exactly does it work and how much nutrient do you normally give your plants thru out their life? I assume you would start with 1/4 or 1/2 strength... and work your way up as the plant ages? Is it possible to burn the plants if you use too much of the espoma organic fert??

Should espoma garden tone be all I need to use the whole time? Or should I add bone means or blood meals and things like that into the soil?

Be careful not to add a lot of organic material or raw elements that need to be broken down first. Like your blood and bone meal, or even things like dolomite lime need to be composted or "cooked" into the soil first.

I use 30 gallon trash cans to "cook" or pre-process my soil in at least 30 days before I plan to use it. (I use it kind of like a backyard composter), I add all my dry nutrients to bagged soil or "base soil" as some call it and just let it sit in the basement until I'm ready.

This post could be really long trying to explain this in detail, but in short, most of your dry nutes will need to be cooked in to the mix, if not you can actually burn your plants root system, not nute burn but actual heat burn due to the breaking down of organic material by micro organisms. The only "dry" amendments that I don't cook first are, earthworm castings and the mycorrhizal fungi product called Great White. Everything else goes in way before the plants do. Oh hell yes you can burn plants with organics.

For 3 gal pots, ~3tbl or so around the edges of the pot and 'scratch' it in to the mix. Do this again in 2-3 weeks and so on.

You might increase it some as the plant gets larger, but little by little. Trust me, what you've added before won't be totally broken down when you add more.

It's not here and gone like chems, it will take months to totally break down. Think of it like adding food to a plate you haven't cleaned yet.

Well, Here's an updated pic of the barneys farm LSD. Seems like I have some sort of problem... I'm not sure if its over-watering or not. About 2 days ago my plant leafs was drooped down, I thought it needed water so I watered it until there was about 20% runoff. Within 12 hours the plant was back to normal... now... 2 days later its starting to droop again. I'm afraid to water it again in fear of over watering. I have been watering about every 2-3 days and its in a 3 gallon clay pot.The soil seems slightly moist when I stick my finger about an inch in the soil.


I have a 600watt MH over the plant around 15 inches away give or take. There is an oscillating fan blowing on the plant and through the grow area as well.

below canopy temps stay around 78-84.
I gave the plant 1 and a half table spoons of epsoma garden tone about a week ago.


Can anyone help me? I can't figure out whats wrong with her

when I stick my finger down 1 inch, the dirt is slightly moist, not wet. The top of the soil is all dry pretty much

Is it normal for a plant that size in a clay pot with a fan blowing on it to be watered every 2-3 days?
If the top of my soil is bone dry, and its slightly moist about 1 inch down, does it need water or should I wait until the soil 1 inch down is just as dry as the top of the soil.

Wetdog.... are you sure its time to transplant again? Thats a 3 gallon pot. What do you suggest I use? 5 gallon? or bigger?

You are probably right Wet. I watered the plant and it seems to be perking up. I noticed some roots were coming out of the bottom drain hole.... I Can't believe the roots are already that deep so early.

What size pot should I switch too??

What about those 5 gallon grow bags? or do I need to go bigger.

5 gallon Homer buckets is the largest I go to since they are the cheapest. Have about 40 or so now.

But, I also do everything from clones and can regulate the size to fit the container.

From seeds, it's a whole different ballgame, some would be cramped in a 20gal pot. That's an experience call.

For right now, just water more often, the plants aren't that big yet. Roots will shoot to the bottom well before the whole container is filled up.

I've got something causing little slit/holes in a few of my leafs. I'm not sure whats causing it. Any ideas what it might be?

I've killed about 3 white flies in the past week but I don't know if that's whats causing these weird slits.

Do you have earwigs? I don't get them inside much, but they love to chow down on our outdoor veggie garden. Just put a small saucer out in your garden right before lights go off and put some beer in it (they seem to like beer) and if you see a few floating in there in the morning then you probably have your guilty party identified.
