First official grow room (with pics!) Help with possible problems.

Hey guys, this is my first official grow room. I've been winging it since about a year ago, just learning the ropes of MJ cultivation, and spent about 8-9 seeds in the process and a year's worth of research and paychecks pumped into the project. It's doubly expensive for me since a lot of the supplies isn't commercially available here in Asia (to give you an idea we don't even have net pots for sale let alone a HPS lamp - they've never even heard of it), so I've had to ship a lot of the things from the US. It's too bad - weather here is perfect for cultivation, but I can't risk an outdoor grow cause, you know, capital punishment and all.

Anyway I managed to import and scrape together a decent grow room about 2 weeks ago, and now I'm waiting on the arrival of my seeds from the tude' (will update on how long it takes to get here, I placed my order on 9 July). In the meantime, just wanted to know if you guys have any suggestions on how to improve my grow room. It's a bit ghetto, but I've had to improvise and do a lot of DIY to get it to working order.

FYI, I'm going hydoponics - using the DWC with a bubbler.

Here's the mother chamber, for the mother plant.

...And here's the cloner/1st stage vegetation chamber.

And finally, the second stage veg / flowering chamber.

room3rs.jpg room4rs.jpg

It's a 400 HPS that switchable with a MH bulb. Behind it I've got a 6" carbon scrubber, and a 4" inline fan. You can also see the scrog for the final chamber.

I'm planning to line the cloning chamber with something a bit more reflective, and if you guys feel like it needs more light, I'll work on building some more light fixtures.

Just a bunch of problems I foresee coming up -

1) The air lining to the bubbler for the flowering tent isn't long enough to go through the outlet at the back - I'll have to line them through the front of the tent, through the zip lining at the bottom. I hope there isn't significant light leakage from it, unless I wrap those tubes with black wiring tape. Necessary?

2) Since these are single units of containers for the plants, with a scrog, changing the reservoir for the 3 tubs in the flowering chamber is going to be difficult. I was thinking of just using an aquarium pump to empty the water when it's time for a complete water change. Anyone with experience know what other troubles I might have from it?

3) The dimension for the tent is 5 x 4 x 2 ft - Is 6 plants too many for the scrog method in there?

4) Best method for a perpetual grow from my setup?

That's all for now, if you guys foresee any other problem I might have, please let me know! I want to tackle them and make sure my first grow is as smooth as possible.

Thanks a lot guys, I've learnt a lot from this forum, and I'm proud to finally be able to post something here for all the hard work I've been putting into this. :)

Lovein the toilet connector on ya filter. Good job.

I made the same mistake of buying a cheap tent. See them poles holding your filter up..... I guarantee the plastic ends will snap when you introduce some heat, it might take a week or 2 but it will snap. Ya need to re-enforce with tape or wire. Bitch of a job if your tent is tight.

IMHO.... Mother room is a waste of grow space. Take your cuttings from vegging babies just before your flip the lights. 1 month later, a new batch of babies ready to go. Flower those in ya mother tent. Repeat process....... perpetual grow, yeild every 4-5 weeks.

Get some plants in there...... good luck.

MrMeanGreen: Thanks for the tip! I was considering that too, it saves me some space and the hassle of maintaining a mother plant - although my concerns are that while waiting for the first batch to flower, I might be putting the clones in veg for too long. Will it be a problem you think?

AtomiCronic: I'm using an LEDwholesalers GYO1009.

I wouldn't worry about that, 2 weeks rooting clones, 3 weeks veg. Use ya cfl's if growing to fast. I find the timing is perfect, if anything ya might need a few extra days vegging.

Looks pretty badass dude, for sure way better than my first try at it.

Hope you know what you need to know about hydroponics, those 3 resivours in the flowering chamber are gonna be a bitch to change once you've got the plants threaded through the screen might not want to scrog if that vaccum thing doesnt work out

other than that though it looks really nice, goodluck dude

Hey MMG, I checked the support beams, and it turns out that the hooks are molded from the metal itself, so it should be able to withstand the temperature changes. You still think it needs reinforcing?

Thanks for all your help!

Hey XRangex,

Thanks for the encouragement! I know that I need to control the pH (already got a ppm meter and liquid pH indicator) although I'm still a bit fuzzy about the feeding schedule. Got any tips for me on that?

Just ph'd water for the first week or two, they have tons of charts and information on feeding.

Do you know what nutrients you'll be feeding them with yet? (GH, fox farm, etc..)

Why not jus drill a hole in the bottom of your res and have a plug you can use to drain it relatively painlessly and you'd still be able to scrog
Hey Prop, yeah that's a good idea, although I was trying to avoid it since I'd have to elevate my containers and my scrog a bit for some drainage room. I still have quite a bit of vertical space, although since It's my first grow not sure how long the babies are going to grow.

Still, it probably makes sense to do that rather than spend money on an aquarium pump. Will keep you updated in case I decide to modify my set-up.

Thanks.

the tent looms like one I've used. Had it for years haven't had a problem with the supports yet.
Thanks shitwolf, that's a relief. I guess they upgraded their tents after all the complaints on previous models, no more plastic connectors and hooks - I'll do a more detailed review on the tent later.
