Ok. Mister hvac.

Have you ever wired an entire house?

And you are the one argueing with me.
I'm not the wannabe, I leave wiring to a professional/licensed electrician and I admit that but I could do a better job than you cause I follow code. I wouldn't stay in any home you wired you don't know jack shit with your superior attitude you just got outed as a wannabe bs artist.

You'd respect the wiring in my house. The op is on its own panel, separate from the rest of the house. All my 20A draws are on 30A circuits. The 40A draw is on a 50A circuit. The house is ready for 200A, the city only gave me 150A without applying for 'special approval'. Nothing here gets warmer than 15 degrees over ambient. A master electrician did the work, checked my earlier work (it was good, as far as it went) and taught me what to look for.

I sleep soundly, indeed.

It's a beautiful thing when you go get the right people to do the right job he gave you a dedicated circuit for your op.

You're a smart man getting a pro to do the job, you got what you paid for... Peace of mind!

He didn't 'give' me anything, except good advice; I paid for the panel, the wiring and the install, after consulting with him about the best way to move forward.

Best move was to separate the high power circuits for the garden from the rest of the house wiring, puttng them on NEW cables and connections. At 40 years old, the house wiring is fine for the stove, big screen and the computer, but I wasn't okay with a stray 150A running around potentially old, loose or damaged connections.

Oh ok so it was diy but you seeked professional advice that made all the difference. What did you wind up using Romex 12/3?

I think the best takeaway from a discussion about electrical upgrades for one's home is for the individual to get professional advice.

As far as motivation goes, I suggest speaking with a few firefighters. Just ask them how many calls they've run to grows that caught fire due to electrical problems vs other causes. Everybody I've spoken with so far has told me, 'lots- and ALL of them.'

Food for thought.

The orange stuff. The guys at Home dePot said yellow would be okay, but I'm all about a little judicious overkill in the name of safety. My electrician approved.

Not exactly. I knew I could pull the wiring and upgrade the breaker for individual circuits, so I did. When that proved to be inadequate, I didn't guess, I got a pro- and the first thing we did was check my work.

He put in the panels and pulled the 200A service line in from the meter, all stuff well above my knowledge level. Because he's a buddy, he talked me thru the whole thing, so that while I'm not comfortable installing something like this, I now feel reasonably qualified to spot mistakes that could get someone cooked or killed.

Like I said you're a smart man, you protected your investment (home, grow op). That's the bottom line. My motto is and always will be "if you fail to plan, you planned to fail". I've followed this thread from day 1 and I know you have a decent op yourself but you don't get that way without doing what's right.

The one thing about electricity is either you master the bitch or you don't failure is instantaneous there's no second chances do it right the first time or forget it.
