First indoor grow with bag seed

IMG_0537.JPG IMG_0538.JPG Hi all this will be my first indoor grow. I've done an outdoor grow two years ago and got a decent yield! This time I'm growing a seed I found in a bag of grapefruit kush! I wasn't planning on growing this because I have a fast and vast and a fast buds green crack coming in the mail. But as usual the seeds are taking some time to get here. I placed the bag seed into one of my plugs after I soaked it for 12 hours in water. A few days passed and I began to notice the top of the plug was being pushed out? So I pulled it out and sure enough the seed had sprouted ! I gave it some light as you can see in the pic and twelve hours after this is where I sit. This seed will be grown in a 3 gallon plastic pot and of now I'm using a 100 watt fluorescent light... but on my way now to buy 4- 14 watt led bulbs so I'll be running 400 equivalent Fluorescent watts. Hopefully with the 4 led bulbs I'll be able to get around a gram a watt... (I was hoping for 56grams per plant with the seeds I bought) but since this is a bag seed idk what will happen... since I'm new I'd love the feedback/ criticism!

I have nuits on the way as well and buying a timer today .
 
Welcome to RIU! You got the right idea on watering in a pot... Just apply small amount near plant... Some over water right from the start... Have fun...

I wanted two leds under the relector so I bought a dual connector and now I have a fairly inexpensive grow light that is pretty bright ! A lot brighter than I would have expected ! The lights I got were 5000k, thinking I can do two of them and in about two weeks I could buy two more with a quad connector with reflector attached so I have a total of 4 lights ? I fixed my tarp a little bit but still don't like how it looks ... if you guys have any idea how I could have some sort of door there that would be great ! once the closet door is back on you can't tell there is a light on in the closet. Thanks everyone ! Hope this grow turns out right ! Kind of a practice run for the seeds I bought !
 
Quick question ! I'm using Peat moss as s base with perlite and a few fertilizers like blood meal and one that starts with a v but I just can't think of the name ... but anyway ! The soil seems to be very light and the water just goes right through ! Before I transplanted the seedling I drenched the pot of soil in a gallon of water and about 15 minutes later the top felt dry again still damp if pushed down but dry on the top ? How often should I water ?

For more light you can add a few more Y splitters to that light and add more bulbs.

Today at my Home Depot they had the 60 watt leds an 8 pack for 14 dollars !! I was thinking of buying them but wasn't sure since they were only 60 watt? Like you said if they were 100watt would've bought a few lol
 
I was gonna add more light in a week or two. To my understand seedlings don't need much light ? How much closer do you guys think I should put the lights ? Right now I'm about 4-5 inches away. If the wife allows me I'd like to put 8 14 watt leds in there. For my next grow I'm thinking about building a cob
 
IMG_0568.PNG IMG_0571.PNG thinking of making this! But with ten 14 watt leds 6 5000k and 4 2700k. Then In the middle I would add a 4 way T and run two of these lights as well. I'd like your opinion on this. If you guys have better ideas I'd love to here them! I just need to figure out how to make a reflective hood!
 
Mmmm... Before you go spending a bunch of money and time rigging up lights (like I did and I think we all did).. Consider that a chinese LED or a 150 W HPS or a t5 would likely be cheaper and produce better buds.. Say you bought a 2ft 6 or 8 bulb t5 for this project then you would always have a great veg light to use and it would rock this one plant.

That being said, you will want at least 6000 lumens per sqft of canopy. 10,000 is better. I'm not sure how many lumens your bulb is producing.

The corn cob light is interesting, but the manufacturers overstate the specs.Plus it used SMD's which I don't think will penetrate very deep into the plant. I think that bulb is 7000 lumens if it's the same I have seen on Amazon.

I also think that some of the people that use household LED's take off the plastic cover. I'm not positive about that. You can find that info in the LED section or just ask the question by starting a new thread.
 
Hey guys! So obviously the two led bulbs I have aren't going to cut it ... so I'm in the process of learning as much as I can about diy cobs and efficiency! My question is how many watts is truly needed for a frowcspace of 19 inches by 23 inches ? I would like to keep the budget under 200 dollars ! What do you guys have in mind ?
 
Sorry for the huge delay work has been rough through the holidays ! Anyway on December 18th I upgraded my lights ! I decided to add more bulbs so I went to the home depot and picked up 4 more 14.5 watt led daylight bulbs. Now I'm running 6 14.5 watt leds for a total of 87 watts for the plant ! I drilled holes in a piece of half inch plywood just big enough for the sockets to fit snug ! I then wired it all up and placed the light system 6 inches from the plant.
 
Welcome to riu. Hope everything runs smooth for ya. Easy way to keep plants compact is to have your lights close as possible.. L.e.d.s don't put out much heat . as you up grade lights the easiest way to tell if the lamp is to close is the wrist or hand check. Hold your hand or wrist level to the canopy, if it's to hot for your hand it's to hot for the plant.
Adjust light till it's no longer to hot for your hand/wrist.
 
Nice ! Thanks for the advice. I lowered the lights to 3 inches two days ago and they really started to grow!

You can make your life alot easier if you just buy a mars 300 off amazon. less than 100$ shipped and you could get 3 oz dry.. I recently got over 3 dry from an autoflower.. U wont have to worry about 15 lights.. only 1 single light

yes .. if you have those household LED bulb.. just shatter the glass on outside... its glass with a rubber coating alot of times.. I have a lower watt bulb like these and after break off the outside its alot brighter.
 
To answer how many total watts needed for your space.. 150-200 watts seems about right for flower 250 would be really good. 100 watts for veg would be fine.

I agree with the poster above.. Rigging together tons of bulbs gets costly and it can be a pain.. You could get a 150w HPS for 60$ or the mars 3watt and save yourself the hassle. Both lights would be useful in the future if you decide to go all-out.
