First Indoor grow: Purps, Raft, Fem. Buddha

Well, I am now starting my first real attempt at indoor. I have learned much from my previous outdoor experience, but am kinda nervous about this one.The sun is after all, fairly idiot-proof. I have a rather modest set-up. I have no security issues save for being robbed .

Standard T12s ( 4' x 2 ) for first week or so
400w MH/HPS for the rest of the grow
Fox Farms Ocean Forrest soil
FF Grow Big / Tiger Bloom / Big Bloom
Final pots will be square 7 x 7" 1.6 gal.
And of course all the fans / timers / etc.

Thats pretty much it.

So let me get started here. Feel free to post questions or comments .

10/24 - I started the germination process last night and am still waiting patiently for sprouts to break the surface. I went a totally different route in regards to my germ. process. I am having second thoughts as I am playing with the bulk of my seed supply. The process I am using is as follows:

I put the seeds in glasses of distilled water that was slightly warmer than room temperature for about 8 hours. Instead of the paper towel method I planted the seeds directly into little 2" coconut fibre pots filled with the Ocean Forrest. The pots are made to be planted into bigger pots and the roots grow right though. Helps with transplant and the related shock I am hoping.I put them in a little shallow to hopefully help them break the surface with no problems. I am keeping the pots moist but not saturated on a heating pad under the T12s.I have heard from some people that Ocean Forrest is too hot for sprouting but others say its fine....

I hate the germ period. I hate waiting to see if the survival ratio is good or bad. Anyhow, I planted 10 Purps , 7 Raft , and just 2 of the feminized Buddha for a total of 19 seeds. I want to make sure I get the numbers I need and had to plan on a catastrophic germ rate.I am doing this particular grow as much for seed as I am smoke.I will attempt to get some pure bloodlines as well as crossing just for fun. It's gonna be a bitch considering all these plants are going to be in the same space.

Exactly 48 hrs. since I started the germ process. Was hoping for at least a few early birds. Nothing yet. I noticed it's getting cold at night and in the mornings. I think it's been getting down to about 59F at night- and that can't be good. So I switched on the 400w tht is hanging 3' above the pots. I am hoping to be able to keep the area at 75F overnight.

I am also watching the Goonies! Great friggin' movie. Anyhow, back to the wait.

I've tried the paper towel method, didn't like it even though it worked,,seemed long, never pre soaked my seeds either though,,but I recently took 8 Big Bud seeds,,simply threw them in soil,,bout 3/4 of an inch in,,lightly covered and kept wet,,I got 6 of 8 up in less than 48 hours,,simply planting in soil has worked for best for me ,,with fast results,,and as soon as there heads are above the dirt,,I use my veg nutes at 1/8th of the full dose strength,,gradually increasing it,,and have barely ever seen a yellow leaf during my veg's,,good luck with your grow

Keep on Growing

Heh. Ya man I am not insanely strict on ppl posting in my grow journal. I just don't want ppl arguing over politics or something here . How wet do you keep the soil? I am using these tiny pots they are about 1.5" across. I have been keeping them moist with a dropper. Seems I am watering them about 3 times a day. Soon as I see the tops have mostly dried out I hit them again.

Hope this Ocean Forrest isn't too hot.

Well, I am about 80 hours into the germ process. As of now there are 7 out of 19 that have broken the surface. Mostly the BC Purps and a couple of Raft. Slow going. But I keep reminding myself that the germ method I am using will be slower to show results due to bypassing the paper towel part. Most of the beans that have sprouted are slow in turning up toward the light.

what are kind of pots are you using shamegame
They are coconut fiber pots. I got them at Lowe's. The way they work is you just drop the whole pot when translpanting and the roots grow right through. Keeps shock to a minimum. The pot eventually dissolves completely I think. I wanted to try em out.

UPDATE: Things are looking better. I have 15/19 sprouted, and I think I may actually get 100% germ rate. The thin-skinned Purps seeds are the strongest so far. The beans didn't look that great when I got them but they are 90% so far. The Raft have had a tougher time due to their insanely thick shells. Like friggin' mini Abrams tanks. They just take longer to work themselves out of the husk, and I have had to help 3 of them remove their shells. There is a pic of the 1 that I damaged trying to get the shell off of.

Check out the pics. Both the Buddha Germed, but one has purple leaves. Interesting. I also have had to spend a lot of time making adjustments to my crude vent system to adjust room temp.

Anyhow, Looks like this grow is a go.

UPDATE: As I suspected, I hit 100% on my germination. 19/19 seeds are now sprouts and all are doing fairly well. The injured Raft sprout is also doing well. Now what the hell am I going to do with all these plants.....:joint:

I don't think I will have room for 10 plants let alone females. I will be breeding this grow for seed stock so I will have to maintain at least 2 male plants- 1 x Raft + 1x Purps. I was trying to figure out if I should try to keep them in smaller pots and go for more small plants ( Half -assed SoG )instead of 6 larger.
