First indoor Garden

Hello guys i am starting an indoor garden this year ( no cannabis too much smell for my appartement/girlfriend). I am planing on using a metal halide 600w bulb and a hps 600w for flowering. Will be growing tomatoes ( Ultra girl, indeterminate), cucumbers ( tasty green, greenhouse) and hot peppers ( Rey Kawiil, hybrid). I will be growing in a hydroponic setup recirculating my water and multifeeding with drippers in 1 gal fabric pots filled with a mix of prebuffered coco coir with 25% Perlite. Will probably be growing some other low light plants on the side to use as much of my light as possible. The size of my setup is 2'x4'x8'.

Any tips would be appreciated i will be receiving my seeds in around a week, otherwise i will update when i start growing!

Temporarly i have two t8 bulbs to start my seedlings

Edit: i would have preferred using rockwool but i have coco coir on hands and i have no use for it other than that

Coco is great. I personally think it's a better choice than rockwool.

One thing however, do you really want to deal with a recirculating system? All the potential for bad things start growing and having to maintain pH and EC, etc... Have you thought about just doing coco and blumats?

Just tossing some thoughts out there. Or even just hand watering coco. Capillary mat... Lots of options and methods. I'm just not a big fan of small hydro setups. I like hydro. I had several flood and drain tables going for years. It's just not worth the hassle for a small scale growing area. A few plants are easy to water by hand and things like blumats make that even easier. Pumps, timers, etc... just seem like too much to bother with for such a small area.

That's my take. Please don't take offense.

Regardless, good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

i hear you man and you have a good point there! The reason why i am going with this is because i already have this system, i was using it in my closet grow and everything went well. So i already have the timers, the pump, the totes, the light, drippers.

I would have went with a larger area (4x4 or even more) and probably grown weed but my girlfriend doesn't agree with that lol. Even my landlord probably would have noticed my grow this time.

I must admit, i didn't know what a blumat system was until now and i'm gratefull that you brought that up i might consider it for my next run when i have a house with a mancave or garage.

Everything is planted, Mh light up and running, temps are around 26 celcius in the room. Should see a fast germination

everything is growing well

But i am having some kind of deficiency on my cucumbers, I was thinking pottassium and upped the pottassium ratio , doesn't seem to get worse for the moment. Could be overwatering that's impacting K+ uptake

Might not be a deficiency i upped magnesium levels and still no improvement while tomatoes and peppers are doing fine. I'm thinking it might be some environmental stress of some sort

Pulled back on the ec and the cucumbers are doing much better. getting hard to manage all of this growth. Switched to a 600 w hps today

yeah i hope i pollinated it on time and that it won't abort, i have another one to pollinate tomorrow which should be good to pollinate
Just one question. Are you planning on controlled pruning? I see an overgrown jungle shortly. A cuke with no trellis and one mater are monsters. Honestly curious how this goes. Thank you for sharing.

yes off course. I was thinking about leaving one main vine on cucumbers but instead i might top them to have them more '' bushy'' other wise my light won't go high enough and they take more space than i tought to rout them around the perimeter of my grow.

For the pepper plant i will keep two main branches

Tomatoes i also keep two vines on the same plant.

I removed all the small plants i will be back only in a week and i dont have drippers or them, i might just leave them aside for a while.

This grow is definetly an experiment so we'll see together how it goes

Hello @steve870

I too am on my first indoor grow. But I am in soil using dry amendments.

though I am not as far into the grow as you and had some questions about my plants growth. Was wondering if I can get some insight please?
