First Grow

The irony of this....

At some point the woman he is growing for is going to get pissed and get him into trouble for growing just to get back at him.

Ha! That is how it seems to turn out in life at times. But, we've not had a spat in the 20+ years we've known each other.

I didn't see anyone mention this about the yellowing leaves, but your first "starter" leaves will yellow and fall off as they get replaced with true leaves. Nothing to worry about. Looking good, cant wait to see how things turn out for you. The more headroom you have the better, limited space is a pain, it more fun (IMO) to let them veg for awhile since it gives you more to play with :) Not to mention it doesn't hurt in the yield department.

I appreciate the response hbbum! Makes me feel better. They are in fact the 2 little starter leaves. Glad to hear that's normal.

I figured I'd update with a few more pics. It's been 3 weeks since I popped these bagbeans directly into soil. about 18 days since they sprouted. I've really done nothing but add water when the pots got light. I topped one today, not really sure how well I did it. I also thought about LST'ing the same one I topped. I have small space and this is a test run, so I'm thinking about putting them into flower next weekend. I was going to give it a few days to heal from topping. Also, can you LST after you start flowering? Does it make a difference? Is waiting a week after topping before I switch enough time, or does that matter? Thanks a lot for all the input on this adventure everyone! 7.7.1am.Plant1side.jpg7.7.1am.Plant1top.jpg7.7.1am.Plant2side.jpg7.7.1am.Plant2top.jpg

At first, I wasn't all that impressed with how they are looking, but now, I'm really surprised at how well my girls are looking, considering I put a digital humidity monitor/thermometer in the cab today and found out that it's 100F in the cabinet. Also, very low humidity, like 27%. From what I understand, this is waaaay too hot, right? I'm just using 6 CFLs, so I wasn't expecting it to be that hot. I've had a 4inch fan in there as well. Will keeping them this hot stunt growth? Does it need to be more humid in there? Thanks for the help!

Ya that heat is probably why they kinda look funky. Also, as you lower that temp the humidity should rise. Now I know there will be someone who swears 27% "is just fine," but I can promise you that your plants will look better vegging with a higher RH. Good luck.

Thanks! How do I lower the temp, add more fans? I can't put an AC in there, it's in a cabinet. I don't really want to take away any lights. Also, I still haven't went and got mylar, I still have the aluminum foil up. If I change the foil out for mylar, will that lower the temp. Would I be better off just taking the foil out until I get the mylar blanket? Sorry for so many questions. This is my first grow, just some bag seed, but I have some bought seeds on the way, just doing a test run and trying to dial everything in with this experiment. Thanks for the help!

Well what's your ventilation situation looking like? Is your cabinet in a closet or anything? Easiest way is to simply crack the door while lights are on. Once you do that, let your mind go and you will be able to come up with different ways to improve on it.

Improving your intake/exhaust will probably be the easiest, quickest, and cheapest way to improve your situation.

It's actually a built in pantry in my dining room. I did go ahead and open the door, the temp dropped down to 85F within about 10 minutes. So, I'll just keep the doors open while lights are on. 85F is in more of a safe range, right?

It's been a couple of hours, actually lights are off, i usually lights off around 11pm and back on around 5am. I just peeked, the temp is down to 73F and the humidity is up to 46%. I'll definitely be leaving the door open during lights on to keep the temps down. I've decided that I'm just going to head to lowe's this weekend and buy the materials to build a small cab for beans that are on the way. That way I can put them in one of my "junk" rooms. I really like the way I'm set up now in a pantry where I can raise/lower the shelves, but I don't like that it's in my dining room, right off of my living room. My sister doesn't even know I'm growing, and since I'm living in our childhood home, that is still full of our parents stuff and our stuff from when we were kids, she wouldn't feel awkward about just opening up that pantry if she visits, especially since most of the stuff that's in the top and bottom parts was stuff that was our mother's and is now hers. But, she has no desire to go into the room that I keep all my guns and hunting/fishing equipment.

This may sound silly but I feel it's magical to watch a seed germinate I love to watch the first two points of the jagged leave, then moving it around the garden so it don't miss a single second of sun,why o why is it illegal to grow a god given plant.if growin is addictive I'm hooked !!

Other than venting, are there any techniques to cooling down my cabinet? Also, what are you guys doing when you want a little higher humidity in your smaller space grows? Thanks as always!

Humidity is easy to increase, just put a open container of water in the grow area. The more surface area of the water the more evaporation will occur resulting in higher humidity. But be carefull, too high humidity can ruin buds through mould!

good venting and enough passive intake are the easiest/cheapest. you can get ac also

Can't really put AC in it, it's in a pantry. I'm going to have to just build a standalone box and put it in a cooler room I believe. Hopefully they can wait till the weekend. Thanks

Here's a couple more pics of my ladies. They are looking a bit beat up. I had some high heat issues that I hope I've gotten under control. At least I'm assuming the yellowing and twisted leaves was from the 100+F temps I had going on in my box. They are 21 days from sprout. I've topped both of them this week. Since it's in a small area and this is really just my test run, I think I'm going to flip em to flower this weekend. Any input would be welcome! Thanks! 7.11.12amPlant1.jpg7.11.12amPlant2.jpg
