Hey guys this is going to be my 1st grow so I thought I would start a grow journal so you guys can stop me from fucking it up. What I plan on doing is growing 3 plants in a closet that is about 6 feet 10 inches tall by 4 feet 5 inches wide. On the left hand side I have 3 shelves each about 1 foot big. I guess the 1st thing I need to know, is this going to be enough space for 3 plants to grow?

I want to go all hydroponics I have not bought my system yet I also have not bought my light yet but I think im going to go with a 400 watt hps light . Will this be enough light for 3 plants. And will it make my tiny grow area to hot.

Please help me, I am not growing to make money I just want some good smoke. I can not take talking to shady dealers anymore.

Dude, welcome aboard, grab a seat and relax. The size light you choose would be perfect, here is the one I bought. This one has the glass shield and has provisions for air cooling if needed later on.

Take a peak in the hydro section, there should be a few do-it-yourself plans in there to make a nice lil hydro setup, on the cheap.
Peace

Alright after doing a lot of reading I have decided not to go with hydroponics for my 1st grow. SO I got some dirt and have got 3 bag seeds planted about 1in in the dirt. My grow light still has not arrived so I have been putting it out in the sun during the day, and have every available lamp in the house in the closet, for the night. All together all the lights are only putting out about 7,640 lumens. Is this going to get the plants by till my grow light comes in? Also I was not sure how much water I was supposed to use when I first put the seedlings in the ground. I plan on getting some pics on here when I get my grow room fixed up and when the seedlings brake through.

comments and suggestions are welcome

Alright so 2 of the 3 seeds I planted broke through the soil today. It made me very happy, but I think something might be wrong. I have been keeping them in the dark and was wondering when I should turn the lights on. The 2 that have started to grow are not green they are kind of a yellow color. They are about .5" tall I think I might turn the lights on before I go to bed. When should I water again? As soon as they get to be about 2 - 3 inches I will start posting pics.

Let soil dry out between waterings.
You should not use incadescent lights. (regular light bulg with wire element)
If you have fluorecscent they will work.

I'm using compact fluorescent bulbs. 4 - 23watt bulbs, 160 lumens each. I've noticed that a lot of people suggest much more lumens, but will these bulbs slide for the seedlings?

Temp in the GR is hanging around 72, humidity...... unknown
soil Ph.... unknown.....

this is starting to feel like a half-assed effort the more I realize how much I don't have as far as equipment. Procrastination anyone?

Also, still not sure if I should have my lights on 24/7 or if I should set up a light/dark schedule yet. These plants just broke through the soil, and I can't find much on the forums about early seedling growth. Am I just worrying too much, or is there anything to be done at this point?

Comments/suggestions DEARLY welcome

are you sure thats all the lumens, doesn't sound right.IDK..Anyway 24/7 or 18/6 it's your choice, but a dark period will help root growth...Keep us posted.

Alright so, I turned the lights on last night before I went to bed. Today they seem to be doing better they each have their first set of leaves starting, And they have much more green in them :hump: . I think I might water them tonight before I go to bed. My humidity seems to be dropping I am at like 38 % will this be ok, or do I need to get it higher? I will be posting some pics in the next few hours.

Ok so we are 3 weeks into the grow and a lot has happened since our last post. Kathy has a whole new room which she appears to like. In her new room we have a new 400 watt MH light running on an 18/6 schedule . We are going to switch to a 400 watt hps when it comes time to flower. We have 3 fans running, one on the plant one on the ballast and the other one is just facing the vents out of the room to try and keep it cool. My temps having been running, about 80-83. I know this is high but Kathy seems to be doing ok. My humidity is staying around 30--38. I have been giving her 64oz of water every 2-3 days . It seems like she wants more water since she got moved under the new light. Is this going to be enough water or does she need more?
Ok so now for the bad news , some of Kathy’s leaves have been curling up, and some yellow spots have started to appear on her. Does this have something to do with they high temps?
Alright now for some really good news. The other day I was driving around and I was shocked to find out that the town I live in has a hydroponics shop. As fast as I could I stopped my car and ran inside. I was like a kid in a candy shop. I only had like $100 ( this was probably a good thing) but I was still able to buy some very cool things. I now own a full hydro set up and in the next few days I will give Kathy a new Hydro sister.
I think its going to get kind of crazy over the next few months. I’m sure that mixing things up having one plant in soil and the other in hydro is going to make things harder. But I know with the help of everyone on here I will get through it with some good smoke. :joint:

Probably a pH problem, got a meter?
To combat high temps you can add CO2 and they be fine, 6 cups sugar, 1 tablespoon active dry yeast and 1/2 gallon of water in a container, shake it up and in a few days it'll start producing CO2, just shake it up every once in a while, also increases plant growth rate.

Other than pH it could be heat stress, which the CO2 could fix, or have a fan blow on a milk jug filled with water and frozen, poor mans A/C.

The third option is Mg deficiency which can be fixed with epsom salt.

Thanks I was thinking it might be an mg dediciency, how often will I have to make a new mix for the co2? should I just put the mix in the room right away or do I need to wait a couple of days for it to start making the co2?

It'll last about two weeks you just need to shake it up every day, or more often if possible. It'll probably take a day or so for it to start making CO2 but you can put it in the room right away, the plants can only use it when the lights are on though.
