Is this a male? I'm thinking it is because of how bulbous the pre-flower is, but there does seem to be a sharp-looking thing on top. Then again, I've never sexed a plant before and am not really sure what I'm doing

wait i dont see any male parts or female yet. tight nodes im leaning towards female. but you need a bit longer or you can make a clone doesn't need roots put in small container and back into the moisture dome and in 7 to 14 days you will know forsure jsut spray leaves 2 times a day with water. and have lights on top of dome.

Phew... that's a relief. Guess I'll just keep checking until something really definitive shows itself. I think I'm going to go 12/12 in another week or 2, so I may forgo doing any snip-checks (though I appreciate the suggestion and may use that in future grows!).
This does bring up a question I had: does being male mean that a plant wasn't properly cared for? I have to assume this can't be the only reason plants become male, but it is a factor at all? Just the fact that nodal spacing is important made me think that maybe taking really good care of the plants would give me better chances of having a female- any shred of truth to this?

Jesus!!! I hope you chopped that down very very fucking carefully... If all of those beans opened, I don't think you would have an unpollinated female in that space for quite a while! Just looking at that thing made me cringe.This is a male

That is really rough... I'm hoping to catch any males before it gets to that point! I have 4 plants going, so I'm expecting some. That being said, I found what I believe to be "balls" on one of my others... what do you think about this one? It's a bit more developed:

Really hard to tell at this point, but I think I saw the very beginning of a male flower...if it is, you will know for sure in about 3 or 4 days as the balls will be very identifiable by then.

Hey Stolen your not gonna be able to sex your plants until you flower them.. What you see is just new growth.. After about 2 weeks of 12/12 you will start to see "pre" flowers.

I thought about it, slept on it, and decided to go 12/12 today. With it being my first grow, with bagseed, I'm going to minimize the wasted resources on potential males. I'll flush and hopefully see the genders soon! Thanks for the help dudes.

Can I really just go back to veg after starting to flower? If that's okay to do, I'll certainly try that.

Or take a cutting and clone it under 12/12 right now, you don't care if it even lives you just want to see the expression of sex.
Over the years I've purposely and accidently flowered more plants than I care to admit. Starting them indoors to plant outside too early was generally my biggest mistake.
Anyway I think flipping them and sexing them and then reverting them back into to veg is one of the most stressful things you can do to a plant. As far as I can tell it adds about a month to the process.
Just my opinion and relating my experiences. If time is not a great issue than you can for sure do this, but I'd avoid it if possible.

I've been using LST for a few weeks now and I really don't have any sections of the plant that are more than 2 or 3 inches... it's very dense and bushy. Will that be sufficient to try and get a clipping to show sex?
