first grow , i used the wet paper towel method on 10 femenized seeds, with a day and a half all seeds cracked with root coming out, i transferred them all into 1 gallon pots with fox farm soil, waterd the soil first then put the seeds about a quarter of a inch in and covered them up, put them under a 400 mh light for 18 hours about 24 inches away, 24 hours later i had one green coming up but non of the others so i moved the light to about 18 inches, how long does it take from the time i put them in the soil for the green to come up? next time i will use jiffy pellets for sure but for now i will work with this since its already done, please any information is greatly apprieciated

It could take as long as a week to two possibly, dont let your soil get too dry when first germinating also dont water it too much either, hope this helps you.

Next time start with smaller pots at first, the bigger ones hold water too well and will drown your plants. Its better to have small pots and water them every couple of days

welcome to rollitup :)

it usually takes 12-48 hours for seeds to germinate, and about the same for them to sprout soil. jiffy pellets are overrated though, all your seeds will sprout just give them lots of water and light :)

you need to put some sort of clear transparent dome over the new sprouts to act as a "mini-greenhouse" until they get about two three inches tall

ok thanks , ill wait till the pots are light and not heavy from the water before i water again, turk i got a grow tent so its doing a pretty good job holding the heat and humidity in there , hopefully they will all be up and going by the end of the weekend

Wait at least another 6 days. If they haven't popped up by then, dig 'em up carefully, and if they haven't shown any sign of growing, they're lemmings. Just throw them away.

Indeed. Keep it in a nice a humide enviroment.

Make sure the soil doesn't get a chance to form a sort of "shell" when it starts to dry, or it'll be hard for your seed to grow out.

That is not accurate information. I never grow in anything less than 5-gallons in size and normally grow in 7-gallon pots and I always put my popped beans right into whatever size pots I am uses for that particular grow. As long as someone uses soil and pots with adequate drainage the danger you claimed is nonexistent.

Regardless of the size of a pot the surface soil will lose moisture through evaporation and even though some moisture from below will wick up it cannot wick up any faster than evaporation takes place and it will actually wick up slower.

Even if the bottoms of your pots were sitting in an inch of water it would not make the surface soil wet enough to, as you called it, "drown your plants" and the roots of a seedling would not be deep enough to be in over saturated soil that could cause root rot.

If anything the larger pots and any additional moisture they may hold is beneficial because as water evaporates moisture from below can in time replace it so it for some reason you are unable or just forget to check your babies soon enough one day or not at all one day there is less of a likelihood that they will dry out and die. You do not have that safety net using cups or small pots or small containers of some sort or another.

Another benefit is you never have to repot and that means less handling of your plants which eliminates much of the chance of damaging your plants.

One more benefit is as soon as a plant’s roots begin to circle a pot the plant is then to some degree stressed and the worse the circling gets them more the stress is increased.

If someone starts their plants in cups or small pots/containers and they do not repot soon enough their plants will be stressed and that can happen each time a plant reaches a point where it needs to be repotted.

Starting right out in large pots eliminates that possibility, that is unless what someone picks/considers as a large pots really aren't really large pots and their plants still end up with circling roots and eventually a root-bound condition.

im talking about using a cheaper lower voltage just for clones and like two mothers, what flourcents work best?

you could get by with 2 two light shop lights with cool white floro's 4' too, cost 40-60 but should be enough if not up it one more when you need it.
