az will progress like all things do. but cali will not just stagnate. what ever growth we see here will simply be a distillate effect from the growth in california. as for changing demographic. i dont really see it. as a whole the mccarthy and reefer madness generation is dying and some of their biased and closed mind values are dying with them. but AZ has and always will be a retirement mecca for old white conservative assholes from rebulican southern and midwestern states. as for the young new generation, i see a brain drain on a large scale. a lot of the young people in this state are students from out of state and they dont want to stay here long after they graduate. i also see all the natives who go to school here leave after they graduate. most people with ambition drive and vision go somewhere else because this state is run so corruptly and the laws here are bigoted and restrictive. all we are left with is old white conservatives and poor mexicans who have no means to get out of this state. there will always be close minded conservative assholes and for some reason they all love to retire here and they all vote in elections. who do you think keeps voting in scum bags like joe arpaiao and jan brewer?

I take no offense, thanks and mean none in return; it sounds like you lack hope... The reason why cali has the laws they have is because they have an engaged voters and a love for the voter initiative (they are way more engaged in their government probably due to all the colleges). What AZ has going on that people don't understand is about to undergo a demographic change. For so long it all AZ had were all these old retired WW2 vets (all due respect) with McCarthyian values who kept voting in the same good ole boys. Since the beginning "Great Recession" people have started migrating to greener pastures. Since the end of WW2 people would move to AZ to get a fresh start in get in at the ground floor of a business opportunity. LA is becoming derelict like Detroit; so it wouldn't put it past me that the successful entrepreneurs saw the writing on the wall and financed people like Al Sobol or AZCS Bill. I also think that the same folk will help change the mmj laws. Besides (off topic) you cannot beat AZ's gun laws; it's just our mmj law that needs a little fine tuning

I can't really dispute cali's reputation when it comes to cannabis; I just will maintain the hope and zeal that cali's "crazy little brother" AZ will be more successful than Cali.
Very Much Agreed!!!

Hello fellow Arizonans, I thought I'd present my grow room question to the home crowd since you have all grown out here in the desert and surely know more than me. This will be my first ever grow and now that it's right around the corner, I'm getting a bit nervous. But I'm well read on the subject and I have the time and definitely the will to make it work.

So my vision is for a total of 24 plants (patient now, caregiver soon) growing in three stages. Group A in veg, groups B & C in flower four weeks apart. Grow tents will be used, soil based grow using T5 for veg and either 400 or 600W for each flowering group. Genetics are purchased and they are femenized strains all leaning towards shorter plants with 7-8 week flowering periods.

My question is this. Do I go with a 4' x 8' x 6.5' (H) or would it be better to have (2) 4' x 4' x 6.3' (H) tents for the flowering groups B & C? There will be a separate veg tent. Are there advantages of one tent vs. two for flowering? Two lights in a single tent might create more heat, but I'd only need one carbon filter. I'm sure there are things I haven't considered and that's why I'm asking you folks for your input. Anything you got is much appreciated. Cheers!
howdy! welcome to the hobby!

personally, i'd go with one big flower tent and a veg tent about 1/2 to 3/4s the size of the flowering one!

Are you here in the desert now? If so, where do you pick this soil up from? I've called several nurseries up and no one stocks this... I'm so stressed and my grow hasn't even started! Lol, I need to medicate. Okay better now.
when i'm trying to see who sells what, i go to the manufacturers site (fox farm for example), and use their dealer locator. lots of soils are ok to use but some are better than others. don't stress the small stuff. just find out what they sell, go online and see who uses it and what they have to say about it! i seem to recall that using soil with a high bark content is bad. i've been using fox farm or black gold for so long, i don't have to think about such things anymore.

Lots of Hydro Stores in Phoenix stop calling nurseries and call up a grow shop.. They have everything you need for cannabis cultivation.

I've got a question for you all. My plants are 38 days (week 6) from germination now and progressing well. I have decided to keep them in a vegetative state through 8 weeks and then flip them. I have just received my HID light kit and I want to start using the 600w MH for the last few weeks of veg. I have had my 4 tube 4' T5 on 24/7. Will there be any issues with switching the photo-period to 18/6 after being 24/7 since the beginning? Thanks for any advice you have for me.

Here's some pics of my baby girls. Cheers!

No they should be fine they will explode though because you are giving them a lot more light. I always wanted to try and veg with a 1000W MH...

Keep us updated on the growth increase. I switched to a 400w CMH from T5s and the first few days they were slow but are like a rocket right now. Would be nice to see a compairson
