First Grow: PC Micro Grow Purple Kush

So I obtained some seeds for some purple kush (which when I tried the end product was absolutely amazing).

These are the first seeds I've ever seen/had, so I thought I would try to grow them.

I am trying to grow inside a PC, and I have 5 seeds, I am going to try growing them one by one since I am in no rush timewise. I have used the paper towel method, and succesfully germinated the first seed (on my first attempt), so I am feeling pretty good. I planted it tap root down this morning in some soil inside a small 5" pot inside my "PC Grow Box" which I have made (pictures to follow in a future post).

Once succesfully germinated, is there an approximate number of days I can expect to wait before a sprout is visible above the soil? I planted the seed 2cm below the surface.

Another quick question I have is about lighting cycles.
For starting off in vegetative state I have been reading two conflicting ideas, one is 24/0, and the other is 18/6, which should I start with? Should I turn the light on already now, or wait for it to sprout?

you should see a sprout in a day or two. turn lights on as soon as it sprouts but keep them somewhat far away as not to burn the fragile seedling. i would go with 18/6 for a couple weeks then switch to 24/0 for the remainder of veg (works for me). The 18/6 helps when its young to promote root growth.

How do I know when to switch from veg to flowering? I've read that the plant itself doesn't grow much taller when flowering, but does fill out a lot width wise, and since I'm growing in this small space size is definitely an issues. I'd say I could probably let the plant get 2 feet tall, but I'm hoping to implement some hardcore LST tactics to help me out.

Nice man get sum pics up, and youll also want to keep your seedling sprout at a high humidity level.

So plants have officially broken the surface and I've now started my 18/6 lightcycle.

Just a few concerns I have, first being that the sprout looks kind of brownish, is this normal, I guess I just expected more green, it's also bent over a bit, but it hasn't even shed it's shell completely yet.

I literally opened the case a few hours after those last pics to try and put in some more foil lining, and the plant's a lot more upright.

^ aluminum foil? throw it away. go to kmart/walmart and pick up one of those metallic windshield reflectors or emergency blankets. they're cheap and reflect much more light than aluminum foil; not to mention foil will create hotspots

I took one last picture tonight, sprout standing straight up, looks like it still has the seed cap on top, and I don't want to pull it off. I am assuming it will fall off on it's own. Should it still be this brown? I was expecting more green.

So I opened her case this morning to check on her, seed cap was on the ground and (hopefully it's a) she is starting to show some green leaves finally!

Sorry about the frequent updates, it's exciting! She looks awfully tall though, I'm thinking I'm going to need to find a bigger space, even with my planned LST or SCROG (still trying to decide)

get the light real close to it like a inch away prop the pot up on a small box or vhs tapes or whatever u got lying around

that one has stretched alot.


run 18/6 you dont want 24/0 in small spaces you dont want it to grow and grow and grow too fast


dont over water only water when the soil has dried out almost.


look up fimming or topping.....you might want to do that a few times to keep it short bush out instead.....that way you can get more bud sites and tie them down so when you flower your buds will grow up and you will get a canopy of buds using all the light.

I've been thinking about the light cycle, and while I was planning on sticking with 18/6, would it be better to try and switch over soon to a 12/12 lightcycle since the space is so small?

If so should I still top / SCROG when starting off from a 12/12?

if you go 12/12 from seed, the plant still "veg's" for like 3 or 4 weeks until it matures enough to flower.

so you might as well go 18/6 and get those few extra hours of light.

but i mean in a small space like a pc, 12/12 from start is a normal thing.

if you veg for 2 or 3 weeks, you can top/fim and let it recover so the shoots r bigger for flowering. as well as you can top/fim a couple times before flower.

Supra is right, I was going to do 12/12 from seed but it doesn't make sense to loose that light. Might as well, plus with training it should add some time to the veg process. So it can bush out I would top then lst or scrog it. I'm using a party cup to limit my plant size, imo your not getting more than an oz or two from a case, and I've seen ppl pull 1 from a party cup so it seems they would work well together.

So, I moved the plant up to about an inch away from the lights (propped up on a hard drive bay cage from the PC case, leaves opened up today, got two nice serrated leaves and two round ones. Keeping it on the 18/6 light cycle.

I guess the change in placement in the case caused the plant steam to get this weave thing going on where it was reaching for the light. Today's picture:

So, seedling is 11 days old, and it seems like growth has slowed down. I plan on keeping "her" on 18/6 until I get 3 or 4 full sets of fan leaves, at which point I will move her to a bigger space.

Here are some pictures that I took this morning, the leaves on top are a fair bit bigger, and there is new growth between the serrated leaves on the top of the plant.
