First grow, new approach - The Takeaway!

Greetings everyone! Dr. Blackthumb here.

Over the years, I have on many occasions tried to get started a little garden for personal use as well as just experimenting but it seems that I have the uncanny ability to kill anything that shows signs of life.

I have tried with bag seed, "good" seeds, bought seeds, and everything in between to no avail.

I was sitting around smoking a blunt the other day thinking about why it's seems to be so difficult for me to be able to grow weed and it didn't add up in my head.

"Weed" is a weed right? So why shouldn't it be able to grow anywhere just like those weeds that nobody wants??? Hmmmm

You see friends, I am in a part of the world that should at least on paper be very well suited to grow year round, southern Mexico. Sun all year long and the temp is juuust right.

After a bit of reading I decided to go with a method I have never tried before. The takeaway!

Some of you might be familiar with "the takeaway", some of you might have even used it before without knowing. Girlfriend giving you a hard time? You say "fuck it" and take off to go have a few cold ones at the local watering hole. Come back a few hours later and the little miss is as sweet as a georgia peach? THE TAKEAWAY!!

So without further ado....THE TAKEAWAY!!

(I'm a dumbass and didn't take pictures of the first few steps but...)

When you read this journal keep in mind that I am a complete rookie and are doing this more as a what NOT to do type operation as opposed to a real grow journal.

Started off first week of December 2007 with seeds I've been picking from some of the better local bud (which ain't saying much).

Planted 5 in a plastic cup using some dirt from the outside garden. Add a bit of water and wait. Few days later, had 3 out of the 5 sprout. From the point where I saw little green leaves, I placed them in their "home" which is the roof of the house. Direct sunlight at its finest. The only thing between those plants and the Lord is pollution and 'round here it ain't much.

I left a bunch more seeds to germinate and ended up with almost 60 that sprouted. (the wait for the seeds to sink or they're no good method is bullshit)

I'll fast forward a bit and get to the pictures...

I bought some soil (some miracle grow potting soil and another local brand with PH 6 stamped on the front) The miracle grow initially looked like much better soil (the other stuff looked like horse hair) but at this stage in the game, and as some of you might know, Miracle Grow is NOT what you want to use. The fertilizers in it will not help out at all!

Here is the miracle grown plant at week 4 (this was also the first sprouted and at one point the plant that was doing the best)

As you can see...this plant is all kinds of screwed up. It stands about 3" tall and from what I understand it looks like it's already sexing.

Here is some more pictures

At least the pictures came out clear ;-)

Now here is the plant that was growing in the "PH 6" soil. This plant was definitely a later bloomer and looked much weaker/smaller until I transplanted it into the 5 gal bucket and as you can see it now makes the Miracle Grow plant look like dried grass.

correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like we've got another girl.

Some of the leaves are showing discoloration. I have no idea what it could be, someone care to shed some light on this for me?

So far the only "care" that these plants have received other than moving them into the plastic bucket is I've watered them twice the last month. We had a few rain days, so I figured that's enough.

Let me hear your comments. I'll be posting some more pictures later today as a few weeks have gone by since these.

Also, as a side note, this time of year we're getting about 11-12 hours of sunlight a day. So from what I understand, I'm in instant flower mode the minute I put these things in the sun correct?

Ok, I went to check out what progress has been made. The last week, weather has been garbage. Unusually cold, VERY windy, and cloudy for days. I expected to find my plants snapped by the wind, but that was not the case.

The "big" plant in the PH6 soil is doing quite well. It was being blown around violently for the last few days and it didn't seem to mind one bit. The leaves that looked burnt have almost disappeared and the new ones are doing very well.

this compared to mini plant below

Here's some more close ups of the "big" plant
