i wouldnt be able to use those cleaning products because i cannot get the plant out of the res. to clean the res.(its tied to the wall and if It I lift the lid the plant falls over and its just dangerous) Is there anything else I can use to break down those salts by just adding something to the solution?
These products are made to safely clean and nourish the plant. You would just empty your res, then fill with fresh water, FloraKleen, and FloraShield, then run for 1-2 hours. Then drain that solution and fill with fresh water and Nutes. With the system you are using "DWC", I don't think it would be as beneficial to you as it is for me, since I have alot of Clay to clean out, and at the bottom of my outer bucket, which gets heavy build up from sitting water. So, if you are really worried about salts, slime, and pathogens, you can use this cleaner to solve that problem..You asked how to clean the inside of your Res, this would be my answer to your question, I hope it helps.

I can't stand to have a slimy film on everything! I trusted the guy at my local shop when he said it does not harm the plant at all when using this cleaner, but I should do more research on it. It is also used to start the flushing cycle, you run it for a few days, then add fresh water and finish your flush. Seems to work pretty good for that. GL, if you find out some info on the stuff let me know...

So can I use that florashield and florakleen to clean out the res, with the plant in it. It wont harm the plant will it?

some of the buds have about 50% orange hairs now. should I pick them and hang em or should I wait till the whole plant gets flushed??

what are peoples thoughts on drying out? what temp should I dry these out at? humidity is low so I dont have to worry about that. My plan was to build a box that gets good ventilation with a dehumidifier added. the temp of the box will be pretty cold though. Will the low temp affect the quality of the budds?

Do you have a scope? The easiest way to tell if you plant is mature for me is just to look at the tric's and check to see if they are turning amber or still just cloudy. Now adays I just look at the calyx, or the pod that the hairs grow out of, and when they look "finished" as in plump, and ripe, then it is time to harvest. The tricky part about flushing is being able to time it right and finish the flush when they are at there peak, this takes a few harvest of the same strain. I am sure there is alot of info in the FAQ on this site, check it out. Like I said I like to use florakleen at the beginning of the flush to rid the clay of excess salt and help get them ready to use again, but in your system, I don't think it is necessary. Just like Skunk suggested, just plain water will do. I like to flush for 3 days myself, you will have to find what your plants like.
For curring, not drying, you will want to keep your temps in the low 70's, and I like to use a room that you can extract air and replace it with fresh air every couple hours. in your case, mabey a box, a large box. try to keep the humidity under 60%. The cold can make problems for you, mold can grow if the cure is going to slowly. I know guys that can ride the line very well, and when they nail it, the first part of the cure takes about 14 days, then the buds go into sealed containers which they open and inspect every day until the buds are dry enough to keep the containers sealed until use.

does anybody know why my lower buds are ripening faster than my top colas? Its pretty strange. The lower half looks like its almost done, the buds are smaller and have more crystals and about half of the pistils are orange. The top half hasn't produced as many crystals and all of the pistils are still white, These buds are a lot bigger than the ripe looking ones though. Does it usually take longer for the bigger buds to ripen opposed to the smaller ones? The trichromes are turning cloudy and i haven't seen any amber ones yet. Do they change over to amber relatively quickly after turning cloudy? Im hoping i can start flushing very soon.

^ pics are on their way bro, i let sumone borrow the cam. Will have some pics for you tom.

The top portion of your plant is still growing, while the lower section is slowing down. So, that leaves you with Buds that look more ripe on the bottom of the plant. I think the general consensus is that indoor plants finish bottom to top, while out door is opposite. I don't know man, I think it has alot to do with the strain..I am sure some one out there has a well education opinion about this topic, but then again, they may be living an illusion...It takes about a 5-7 days from when the trics turn from first sign of cloudiness to amber, this is a very general statement, but I am trying to ease your mind and give you some sort of time line! At first sign of amber, I start the flush, but that is my way, you will have to find yours, for the strain your are growing.. Yeah man, pics are always great! Gl Happy growing~

For me, the plant has to scream at me for me to chop it down... Honestly, it just tells me flat out.

There'll be no uhms no ahs, I'll just know that she's ready.

Also, it's best to look at the plant in natural light, or even a normal lightbulb. Often the HID lights will hide the true identity of the plant.

Like a swollen vulva perhaps?

Very good point.

alright well im planning on flushing sometime next week maybe tuesday perhaps. Tomarrow is the end of week 8. I just got finished building the drying room. lol its bigger that the vegging room. I decided to build a full size box just in case i decide that i need more room for vegging. went to the home depot today and saw a 6inch vent fan that puts out 250 cfm and was only $27. I feel so ripped off by buying the can fan inline fan which was like $175. Im never going through hydroponic shops ever again unless I need something that only they carry. They are such a rip off. went there just to get some ducting the one day and a 20 or 25 foot long 4 inch wide was like $25. I got two of them and the guy was like "oh alright ill give it to ya for $45 out the door". Gee thanx

The buds today look even more finished than yesterday. some of the more ripe looking ones are starting to fall over and point down. Ill have some pics for you guys soon I have to steal my camera back.

Right on man, get that camera! I think I am going to take a few pics tonight as well. I am @ day 29 or 30, so they are starting to get me excited! Yeah, I would not pay big money for a Can Fan, but I love how quiet my 8" Vortex is, and I can run all my outtake air out of one fan. Nice score on the $27 250cfm fan though! What are you planning on doing with it? I have been following this grow since the beginning and can't wait to see what your end product will turn like. Happy Growing! Tra La La

I picked it up to use it for the drying room. Although I do not have a controller I plan to just leave it on all the time while the tree is drying. Do you think this is alright if I just leave it on 24/7?

Cant wait to smoke this. its prob gonna get me the highest ive ever been. When it is done drying, me and two of my friends are gonna pick out our favorite bongs/pipes to smoke out of and were gonna pass three different pieces around a 3 person roto. It is going to be a very merry holiday this year.

do you think I can make a reasonable amount of hash with the left overs? Im not sure on how much you need.

I would put that fan on a timer myself..The theory would be that when the fan is off the outer dry buds will pull moisture out of the center of the bud, and with the fan going all the time, your temps are probably going to be to low, remember you want that box to be in the low 70's all the time..So what ever that takes in the climate that you live in. I live in the hight desert, so moisture is not a problem.
How do you plan on making your hash?

I was going to buy the bubble bags but I ran out of money. I read somewhere that I can use rubbing alcohol and coffee filters somehow but idk if that method is worth trying. Should I even bother makeing the hash? Would I even get a good amount off the one plant? also what kind of timer should I get to controll the ventilation?(trying to go as cheap as possible!!) I have a digital timer that can store i think up to 14 settings. Would having the fan kick on every 2 hours work?

Easy cheap way to make hash is honey oil. Just google it and you will get alot of info. I made my own, so if you have further questions let me know..As far as the fan goes, if you can maintain a constant 75deg, with a low humidity, with the fan running all the time, go with that. If not, and the temps drop to much, then just wire up that fan so you can use the digital timer.
