To avoid this in the future, should I just get the light as close as possible? I'm gunna get one of those cool tubed lighting systems soon.

*I've now raised them all so they're all even except for the giant one in the back. I've only got 8ft height available in my grow room.

Just keep a good air flow over the tops, no need to air cool unless you have heat buildup issues. The glass will eat a shitload of the light. I kept my 1Ks about 12 to 16 in above the tops. My 400's were about 8".
