First grow, it has been interesting

So this is my first grow ever (which will likely be apparent in some pics). I received this plant from a friend, who gets them from a guy that’s been doing this for decades, and grows high quality high potency outdoor, making his own strains. This is (Super Chunk x GSC) x an unknown I will post when I find out, hopefully soon.

This has been a challenge for sure. If it can go wrong it has. When I got it, it was obviously not in light enough, as it was July and starting to flower (I didn’t know for sure). It was also in a tiny maybe half gallon pot, and looked like a big root (guessing root bound or close to it). Wish I had taken a pic, didn’t know I’d be logging everything, but it looked like a pot shaped root when I slid the pot off.

I transplanted into a 5 gal fabric pot, with Happy Hippie Soil. I sprinkled Mykro on the roots like I had seen a guy do on you tube. I put it in a 3x3 tent with 6” intake and 6” exhaust, and 2 6” clip fans. I’m using a Aglex 2000w light (pulls about 550 from wall).

Watered the crap out of it no nutes for first water.

I didn’t get many pics in the beginning, but the first issue I had was everything dying as it went into reveg. I put it on a 20/4 light schedule from day one.

When the nutrient deficiency it had when I got it started getting better and leaves darkening a bit, I thought it smart to use some of the extra space in the tent and got a couple clones from a dispensary.....baaaad idea. My best guess is the clones had bugs, bugs saw a bigger food source, and attacked. At the same time I had a moisture problem from the air intake source, so got a little PM. Pics to that point, I was ready to scrap it and start over. Instead I got a bottle of Plant Therapy and sprayed her down every day when lights went out, alternating days with Neem oil. Took about a week before noticing improvement and absence of spots underneath leaves (find out later likely mites?).

Once she recovered, she recovered in a hurry. Not knowing that a reveg will sprout a billion new shoots, my smart brain decided to top the three main branches over the course of the next few days

Then I discover what I assume was a topping site from before I got the plant. This giant hole in the top of the main stalk. I didn’t think this good so I squeezed it closed and kept it closed with an alligator clip. Left the clip on for 3 days.

Almost forgot the water schedule. After the first watering, I started using pro-teKt silicon, CalMag, and grow more 30-10-10. 30-10-10 mixed to 1/4 strength from bag directions (bag says use 2-4 tblsp/gal, I used 2teaspoon/gal). Up to this point I watered every 3 days with 1.5 gal mixed nutes (silicon first or you get reaction with CalMag), on third watering no nutes. After the no nute water, I had to go to every other day, again third water no nutes. After little over a week, had to water every day. This lasted 3 days till I transplanted into a 20 gal fabric pot with sides rolled down. Somewhere in there it was getting a little big for the size of the branches, so I added a tomato support, tied off to the tent poles with garden wire.

I don’t have much money, most things were given to me (tents, soil, pots, plant, nutrients, ph meter), and I saved for a loooong time for the light and fans

With the support in place, she seemed to get happy. Also shows the light I’m using. Didn’t realize Bloom switch should be on during Veg too lol.

Was time to start thinking about a bigger tent, don’t think the 3x3 will have the height.

So into a bigger tent she goes. Also seen a lot about ScrOG online, so I figured why not give it a shot, if nothing else will be good support. For $30 at Lowe’s I got materials and built one for the big tent and one for the little tent. I’m thinking switch to flower any day now. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have zero in person help. I have the internet

Ok so I am glad I read up before switching. I didn’t realize, but it makes sense, I need to trim everything underneath awhile before switching to flower so she has time to recover from the shock. I definitely want to do some trimming, but where to start lol? Help!

So I must have reprogrammed the timer last night, and am now in flower. That is fine as I kind of wanted to not lollipop this first grow. I’ve done pretty good to this point, don’t want to push it. I’m going to let her flower so I can really watch and pay attention to what they do during flower so when I do decide to go extreme and lollipop I can recover from mistakes better

You can defoliate (taking leaves off) in flower, how much is always up for debate. Just no topping or fimming, and taking lower braches off is fine. Generally people lollipop the bottom third of the plant or so. I usually keep the bottom third clean, and pick fan leaves throughout flower, pretty much up until harvest sometimes, mostly because i miss them lol

I would lollipop it. Cut every that is not going to reach the treills. Spread it out. Better air flow underneath. Even light coverage. It's better to do it earlier but the beginning of flower is better than larf. If the plant is healthy it will be ok. That's just my thoughts and the way I do it.

Hey I appreciate all your input. Maybe I’ll slowly trim over the next few days to not stress it out too much? I mostly don’t know where to even start trimming because there is pre flower everywhere

Trimming and last little LST. Still have plenty of thinning to do underneath but thought she should rest a bit. Had to water again, seems a little soon but the soil was pretty dry an inch deep... maybe I didn’t water enough or in even last time and the run off I got was from a concentrated spot? If uneven was the case it won’t happen again now that I can access the base easier. She seems to be doing fairly well, and is filling out the screen nicely. I did tape up where I cut off the lowers, dunno if it is good or bad but looks good lol

LOL. Man, this reminds me of the experience I went through, with my first grow last year. The whole thing was one disaster after another. Reveg, mites, gnats, root rot, snapped branches.... Smh. What a fricken mess! It all worked out good in the end though, after reading TONS here. Yours sure has come around and is looking great! Awesome thread too, btw.
