First grow. How am I doing?

Hello everyone,

So I decided to delve into growing my own. Just looking for a bit of feedback/guidance.

Let me know your thoughts -

Strain - blackberry gum from seed stockers
Lights - 200w cfl main lamp for first 4 weeks of veg and first two weeks of flower then added 6x 75w energy savers to help the lower buds out (actually draws 20w or something)
Nutes- Remo nutrients (following his feeding schedule) has some early nute burn but got to grips after the first 3 weeks or so and no problems since.

I think that’s all the important info. ^

A couple things to mention - I had a lot of problems with getting my plants to stretch out. They are very bushy. But the main thing is how dense / how much my buds are filling out. I’m on day 45 of flower, Am I where I should be? Could I be doing anything extra to make them bigger?

Ignore the auto. It’s just a free seed a shoved in the tent. I don’t mind that it’s only getting 12/12. Just fancied seeing what it would do.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

They do look like they've been well cared for. No signs of overfeeding and thats so very common even with experienced growers. Kudos to you for resisting the temptation to do too much.

I think that with CFL you can't really grow the plants to big due to the fact the lights need to be close. If you want bigger plants you should consider a light upgrade in the future now that you know you have a green thumb. If you go with LED get a good one, not a cheap one. You truly get what you pay for with LED. If you go with a CMH or HPS it will be cheaper and you can grow great weed. How big is your tent as that determines light size. What size tent do you have? With HPS you want about 50 to 60 watts per sq ft. With LED you want 35 to 50 watts per sqft of good LED (actual watts not the advertised equivalent watts many manufacturers use.)

Be careful with those supplemental 23w bulbs, you can easily fry your buds during flowering. It happened to me even though I only had the lights 6 inches away.

My advice - stay away from internet growing, your nailing it already and dont need to change a thing there.

I love those big 200wcfls, im an old envirolite fan till they went bust years ago. The phosphor they use dictates the spectrum, some more exspensive phosphors emulate sunlight or daylight (probably more precise for some reason) better than a lot of other phosphors and lights. I always enjoyed healthy happy and very very resinous plants with these lights. Cheap ones are shit but again your adding spectrum.

On a side note they are inefficient almost fire risks with the ballast so close to the bulb, you may note slight browning from scorching the plastic but they are pretty safe and not sure its possible to site the ballast away with ease on a cfl.

Buy a 250w, pack that tent and enjoy , i think cfl you should aim for 0.5gram a watt and just over so 400watts for 200 and some grams.

:-)

How much you reckon I will yield? I know this is a stupid question but I have no idea what to expect

you asking the wrong person XD i have no idea how much im even going to yield nor have a scale. with that cfl grow i was talking about i eventually upgraded to cheap LED's about mid way through veg. they grew fairly nice for a CFL grow though just not as much as i was hoping for at the rate it was going but i was using weaker CFL's then you are.

if thats your 1st time ever growing id say good job but you need a few upgrades to produce and decent yield and make it worth the risk of growing indoors although if you are not a big smoker and only want like 2 oz or less i would use that set up again but veg the plants longer and use that set up to learn and improve on growing techniques like LST,scrog, topping. them 3 techniques alone should and will triple your yield. with a little extra veg time before you go out and buy all the fancy lights and carbon filters as that can get expensive quickly and if you suck at growing all the equipment in the world wont get you big fat yields

The cfl's will definitely grow ya some plants, and from the looks of it you're making the best of them! It would appear that you definitely have the green thumb if this is your first grow, everything seems to be healthy! Anyhow, back on point, having the green thumb you do, investing in a more powerful light source would be a huge help for your yields and in some instances your quality. What kind of budget would you have for upgrading your lights? There are some other options than just the traditional HID vs LED dilemma. You've CMH lights and double ended HPS's which are really starting to emerge onto the growing scene with huge sucess!

So here we are now. Thinking of chopping this Sunday but we will see what the trichs say :blsmoke:.

The auto is looking pretty bomb and I think I will head down those in the future with bigger pots and better lighting. They are explosive. The resin production is slower however but that could just be the genetics. Either way, autos looking favourable..

That’s not to say that the black gum isn’t a wonderful plant to grow, smell, look at (and hopefully smoke). Very resinous and they make my house smell gorgeous whenever I open the tent. Just would say get to LSTing pronto otherwise you will find yourself with a very bushy plant with struggling bud sites. I will also say don’t be afraid to defoliate her. Very resilient and bounces back within the day/days.

Let me know what you guys think. I’m probs gunna leave the ‘spikier’ one on the right another week. Bulk still pending it seems.
