Hello Everyone, Chimes here.

New to the forums, new to cannabis (smoking AND growing), new to gardening --

With that being said, ive been reading on this forum for about a month now, soaking up all I can.

My father recently passed and he was an avid fan of cannabis. He, of course guided me away from MJ as a kid, so i did what he asked.

Now being 24 years old and moving back to the house I grew up in, I found plants in the backyard which my dad was growing. I put them in the ground from their small pots and my lack of knowledge on growing this plant brought me to these forums.

I believe the plants I am growing are Purple Urkle, a heavy Indica. I believe this because I found a small container of seeds that my dad had, with the said name on the label. I am also located in northern california.

I knew the first issue would be that these things grow tall, my neighbor across the street has several 6-7 ft plants. I didn't want the plants to grow so tall so I made my attempt at LST using cut wire hangers on the main stem.

I also read that over watering is a common mistake with first time growers, so I have been water the 6 plants with about 5 gallons of water every 3rd day.

After reading more on the forums I started to learn about pH levels in the water and in the soil. My father had a bunch of nutes in the garage as well as a 400W ballast and a pH kit (the liquid one to test the water). I've learned that the water ive been watering with has been too high in pH. I went to home depot and bought a few 5 gallon buckets and began filling these and letting them sit for a few days before watering. I treat the water down to about a 5-6
on my pH scale. I cant get an exact reading on what the pH level is because it just changes to a shade of yellow which on the chart shows between about 5-6.

The medium in which the plants are in have always been ok for other plants/bushes/trees to grow but with the recent change to the house we removed plants/bushes from the area so the cannabis is growing by itself. The medium seems to be good on the top but further down seems to harden and almost seem like clay. At the moment I do NOT have a pH test for the soil so before I give it any nutes i would like to have that tested. I realize as I am typing this that i have been giving them treated water without realizing my soils pH, which if i understand correctly could lead to nute lockout.

Chances are Ive done things improperly and could perhaps be on a very bad start or hopefully a decent start but it is my first grow and this is quite the learning experience. I encourage constructive criticism and if I have done things wrong, help guide me in the right direction.

Do you notice any deficiencies right away? I have some leaves that have turned yellow (nitrogen def.?) and died and fell off, also have some tips that have begun yellowing yet still live. I am not a fan of ripping leaves off as I have read this could shock the plant. Also the semi-yellow leaves still have valuable nutes in which the rest of the plants use to grow.

And lastly, one of the plants has pretty dark colored leaves, couldnt this be nitrogen overdose?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you for reading and thank you for welcoming me to the forums!
