First grow, filing cabinet - need advice

Hi I’m new here and this is my first post. I need some help with my grow project.

Here’s the situation:
- I live in a rented house I share with this guy.
- He’s an annoying prick who would never, ever, ever break the law.
- Luckily he respects my privacy as long as I respect his and won’t go in my bedroom unless he has permission.
- So I’m looking to grow a bit of weed in a metal filing cabinet in the corner of my bedroom/office. No one, not even me until now ever goes within 4 feet of the cabinet because there is papers and stuff in the way.
- Last week a got 6 lowryder #2 seeds from a buddy, which to my understanding is an autoflowering strain.
- I have knocked through the bottom of this 2 draw metal cabinet and have a 2.5 foot tall, 2.5 foot long and 2 foot wide area of grow space which I painted white. I cut a hole in the back and have a 4inch PC fan in there connected to a carbon scrubber on the exhaust, it is completely silent and you can’t hear it even if you are next to it, I have tried putting my desk lamp inside the cabinet in the dark and there is no light bleed whatsoever. I burn incense already and have a plug-in smelly thingy for the inside of the cabinet and a shit load of febreeze on hand, that along with the carbon scrubber should minimize the smell.
- I’m hoping for 2-3 females so it’s a small scale grow.

I am clueless as to which lighting to get, so if anyone could help me out here??

I’m kind of on a budget and not looking to spend hundreds of $

I think I have everything but the lighting unless you think I have missed something before I start??

Thanks for any help.

First, i would start by reading a few articles and pages in the GrowFAQ: https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq

In your situation, i would recommend a simple CFL setup. They're the spiral twisty bulbs that are so popular these days. Light sockets can be bought for very cheap and CFL's are only a few bucks each.

But how did you cut into the steel of the cabinet? I've been interested in filing cabinet grows lately and haven't quite figured out how to do that. Post pics...

I've seen machines like the phototron which would be great for what you want to do, but it's a little fuckin obvious it's a growbox.

Yo , that sounds like a decent setup , but you should get some pics of it , and you dont even need to worry about the smell till the plants get bigger so right now you dont need any of the insence or any of that , and i wouldent have that stuff on the inside of your setup , have it on the outside , you dont want chemicals getting in your dope , and as for lighting get 6 Daylight 6500k CFL's and 6 Soft White 2700k CFL's , the 6500k's are for veg and the 2700k's are for flowering , they are cheap heres a pic of the 6500k cfl just incase you dont know what they look like , they are just normal house light bulbs that are cheap , you should use atleast 2 lights for one plant so 6 lights for 3 plants , hope all that helps , oh and you could always get a lock for the fileing cabnit , so no one can get in it but you.

Thanks for the links

I don't own any powertools so I used some heavy duty scissors for the vent and a nice big hammer for the drawer lol there was already a tiny hole in the back so I could get the scissors in.

How many bulb and watts do you think I need for a confined space like this?? Is there anything I've forgotten about you think??

You people are great, thanks for the quick responses, I already have a built in lock for the cabinet and my door is locked when I'm not in.

Ok I looked on ebay and saw that prices for CFLs are quite good, my question is could I use say a two 125w or 250w CFLs (6400k and 2700k) for the whole thing or would I be better off with lots of little ones? price isn't a problem with CFLs

That sounds like a great idea, from what I've done I wouldn't place CFL's under a plant all that did for me was turn healthy fan leaves crisy, maybe a couple tube flouresents going on each side and the 2 kinda strong CFL would be good.

I would just cruise down to your local home depot/lowes and pick up a 5-pack of "warm white" 23w bulbs and a 5-pack of "daylight" 23w bulbs. The box might say 100w, but that's just comparing it to incandecent bulbs brightness. While youre there, get 10 light sockets/cords/plugs. Use all 10 bulbs during your grow, seed to until flower. When you start flowering, get another 5-pack of warm whites and 5 cords/plugs/sockets to add to your box, making your total 15 bulbs.
