First Grow EVER- Aerogarden

Hey guys! OMG...I haven't been on here in FOREVER....had to drive up north to see the fam...internet so slow up there it's not even worth getting online >_<. So I had a friend take care of my plants while I was gone and I got good news and bad news. The good news: 4/5 are FEMALES!!!!!!! Only waiting on one more to show pistils!!!! The bad news: My timer won't work for some reason, so the light never turned off and they've been on 24/7 for two weeks and are now ever father behind in flowering so it's looks like mid Feb before I have anything smokeable. I'll upload pics soon, but they are HUGE!!!!! They've already outgrown the Aerogardens height wise (because they just kept veggin a month after I planned to flower them thanks to the shit timer >_<)..so now I have to figure something new out, I think I'll just give in and get an HPS 500wt at the hydro store later today depending on how much it costs. I've also decided to just turn my closet into a semi-perm grow room, so I'll be buying mylar today too hopefully. If I can't afford mylar, I'll just use aluminum foil. At this point, the plants are so big, there no reason not to try to get a huge yield out of them...

It's great to be back xD. Well, my friend used to grow and we're doing this together so I trusted him to take good care of the babies, pretty much the only thing he had to do was re-fill the reservoir once. I love aerogardens...

Another photo-less update:
Went to the hydro store and got some (Orca I think?) reflective coating for my walls. One side is white and the other black, but I can't remember the brand. Well I lucked out because my closet is so small I only needed a 10'x10' sheet which was $13. I've only had to use half of it, which is nice because now I have spare sheeting in case I ever need to refresh the whole grow room. I could only afford a 150wt HPS (and that was really pushing it)...but the sheeting I got says it's has a 99% reflectivity, so I'm hoping that will help make-up a little for the low watts. When I can afford to, I'll be upgrading to a 400wt with an external ballast to help keep the heat down since my closet is so small, but that probably won't happen until my second grow because I'll be poor for awhile yet. All in all I got the sheeting and the light which included everything to go with it for $100. I also found out that the timer I thought was broken works just fine, I'm just a bit of a tard sometimes...so now I just feel really dumb because they could have been a month into flower by now had I realized why the timer wasn't working. On the bright side, with my new set-up I'm looking at a nice yeild ^_^.

Question: My plants very clearly have pistils, but if they weren't on 12/12, does that mean they count as pre-flowers? The pistils are very obvious, long and white, do the plants develop them at a certain point regardless of light amount? Or could it be because I switched my ferts for flower and that triggered it?

Yeah they will show their sex during veg sometimes

Also i saw someone reccomned to trim the undergrowth. I woulnt do that imo. Every leafe is very very valuable and it pisses me of when u see (not nubes) but dumbasses who obviously no nothing about plants in general. You dont have to harvest yoour plant all at once either. If the top colas are finished clip the but allow the undergrowth to keep budding. That way you get fat top colas and fat bottom colas!

Your plants look great even though the cat and dog got ahold of them.

Blarg, another photo-less update...dame losing my camera cord T_T. Anyhoo, Plants are doing great. The ones in my black aero are so gorgeous I just wants cry everytime I see and smell them ^_^. The plants in the white aero are still the "bad" looking ones, but they are fairing much better. I however have a problem, I believe one of my plants is a hermie, what should I do? It's LOADED with bud, so I really don't want to kill it, if I've caught it in time, can I just clip off all it's pollen sacs and hope for the best? What's the best way to deal with a hermie...

Get rid of it. Its not worth the risk. And theres almost no way to find every single pollen sack. I know it's hard to do, I lost both plants in my first grow to hermies. After you get rid of it you can make a tincture. It takes almost a month for it to soak into the alcohol but it tastes great.

What do you mean "lost"? I thought the bud hermies made was just as good, just seedy? Anyhoo, after conversing with my pals about what to do with the hermie, we decided to leave it be since we want seeds anyways and I'll get rid of it when I harvest since I'll be doing a live harvest on my black aero and a kill harvest on the white one anyways.

YAY!!! Photos!!! Anyhoo, idk what's up with the plants in my white Aero...all the leaves on the middle plant turned yellow and fell off, but the other two plants are totally fine...tis very strange.

It actually depends how bad it hermes, I have had plants only bust a few pollen sacs out, and I tore them off and still ended up with no seeds.

Put ur white aerogarden on something so its elevated and even with that other plant, otherwise it will never grow as fast as the other and be a runt all its life.

Would physically raising the Aerogarden really help it out? I'd already kind of written off the plants in the white aero as a shitty harvest, my plants in the black one are doing so well that it makes me far less upset xD. The hermie though, the most damage it can do is seed the bud right? Which only reduces the THC a little, so the bud should still be really good?Also...could you please edit/remove your post bitching out the asshole, it distracts from my grow and I really don't want dumb drama in my grow journal...

If u are going to continue to grow with both aerogardens, I would raise the white one it will make a dramatic difference.

How much did u pay for those aerogardens?

Just pick the bananas off whenever they grow u should be fine ur plants aren't so big.

Okay, I shall try that then thank you for the suggestion. And I got them both for free...so I paid nothing for them.
