My advice.....

....go with bagseed, and put that seed money toward a 400 HPS. They have complete systems for $120,(plus like $25 shipping) at HTG Supply, and they work great. That extra bud you'll get, by upgrading from 150 to 400, will buy you a shitload of good seeds. Plus, by then, you'll have the hang of things, and won't have to risk having to buy them twice.lol

P.S. Get a small bottle of Calmag plus. In addition to the calcium and magnesium, it has trace nutes, which will be needed. Better look into plant requirements, first, because I'm not sure if they are present in high enough levels to keep the plants sustained, without another seperate source of micros. I use Calmag Plus, myself, but also use Dynagro nutes, which include all the necessary micros, so never was concerned enough to find out if the Calmag contained enough, by itself. I'm guessing they're at rather low levels.

I agree, if you have the room that is.. Go with the bigger light!! Also depending on where your growing it you will need a decent exhaust fan..

If you can get ahold of some bagseed that is :) You would be supprised what a well takin care of "dirt weed" seed would produce!!

"Bagseed growing, is like a box of chocolates,....."

LOL, Yeah man, I hear ya there. I had some really awesome stuff, during my first couple bagseed grows. One was so-so stuff, but, the other two were great. That stretchy sativa, was amazing. :weed:

what is bag seed? o_O

i do have some pots already, but don't know about the trays.
i know a 400watt would be better, but since this is my first grow, i wanted to keep it a smaller, both budget and grow-wise.

i figure that 150watt is good for 2-3 plants, which is an ideal number for my first grow.

eventually, when im more experienced, i do plan to get 400watts and probably try hydroponics.

hows the price look?
how much did you guys spend for your first grow?
Looks pretty good. My first grow was very cheap, and turned out great. I used two T12 shoplights($10 each), the cheapest topsoil I could find($1.79 a bag, and no perlite), a few 2 gallon pots,(about $10), and two kinds of MG fert, a veg-biased and a bloom-biased.(about $5 each) I didn't pay anything for the seeds, because they were bagseed that I got from a buddy who saves them from his better bags.

I saved $150, by the time it came to switch to 12/12, bought a 400 HPS, and ended up with 3 really nice plants, all different strains, and each averaging 2 ozs. each. Hell, I even watered them almost every single day,(never let the soil dry out, once. Didn't know any better.lol)) and never had a problem, because it was 85-95*, constantly.lol

Then, I went all high-tech, with fancy ferts, etc...and my next couple grows were worse than the first. Go figure, huh?

Thats what i use right now two T12 shoplights

Keep them within 1" of your plants, don't veg more than 10-14" tall, and they work really good. They work better than most CFL results, I've seen(most are setup poorly, IMO), due to the ease of use. Best of luck to ya, and maybe all your smoke, knock your socks off.lol

Alright. I have mine about 1" away from my plants and they are about 12" tall. Because i dont have much space i like the top them a few times so that they stay relatively small but still have a decent amount when hervest comes around
