Well that's annoying, lost all of the posts I made... oh well..

Well I bent her over this morning and started the LST... She's going to get lots of light on the side growth now, and hopefully those side branches will turn into major budsites...

Before LST:

IMG_0015.jpgIMG_0018.jpg (Notice how dark it is on the node growth)

After LST:
IMG_0021.jpgIMG_0020.jpgIMG_0019.jpg

See how the side growth is getting a lot more light now?

She's already started turning back toward the light... I did it at 9:30 this morning, and it's 7:00 now at night, and the lights have just turned off...

We'll see how she looks tomorrow.

Oh, also: Here's a comparison shot to show you what 7 DAYS can do to your plant...

It's pretty amazing that all of that growth happened in 1 week.

Well she responded GREAT to the LST..

Here she was last night at about 6 PM...

lst1.jpg

See all the new growth on the side nodes? The light green areas will turn into main stems and eventually major budsites similar in size to the main cola...

Here she was this morning, she turned right up to the light already.. amazing.

lst3.jpglst4.jpglst2.jpg

Here's a macro of the top of the main stem's growth..

lst5.jpg

And a couple macros of the position of the hook and how the plant bent up from it..

lst7.jpglst6.jpg

At this point I decided to move the hook down the stem again and keep it low, so I bent her over again..

lst8.jpg

Here's a macro of what she looks like now at the hook

lst9.jpg

Here's a couple macros of the side/node growth, see how it's starting to look similar to the main stem in it's growth??

Nice looking grow Attic :)

Recently started putting together a Tote box myself, and appreciate all the nice pix on the LST in specific. As I'm about to start my first grow soon, some of the aspects I still want a lot more info on... and LST is the big one. ;)

+ rep, keep it up!

Edit -

BTW - what size pots are you using? I'm thinking of going with 4 6" ones to start, as I can fit them in the tote I have rather comfortably... but was thinking of maybe trying 6 4" ones instead. I have two sprouts in a couple of the 6" pots right now under a low watt desk lamp - the box is being assembled this weekend. :)

Nice!

I'm not exactly sure on the size of my pots.. I started in a party cup (plastic beer cup), then transplanted to a 5" diameter Rubbermaid cylinder thingy that i punched holes into the bottom of, then I transplanted to a pot with about a 12" diameter I'd say.. That 12" is going to be my final pot for the plant..

Looking good... The plant is taking nicely to the LST.

I thought I would post some pictures of my operation showing the LST.

These two were LST at about 10".

Here's a picture of one that was topped early then I guess you could say LST.

Hope you don't mind me posting theses pictures on your thread. Thought they might offer a look into the future.

Oh no dude I don't mind at all :D

Looks great in the pics.. I can't wait to get her really wound around the pot then start flowering.. I'm so anxious already and I know I have at least 2 months left LOL.

Tied her down even further this afternoon, she was starting to turn up to the light so i brought her down even more..

looking great. i have a plant about the same size as yours. i believe i started growing it in my stealth box on 5/5 im also lst'ing. love to see how it goes. happy growing

Can't wait to see how she looks tomorrow morning.. Hopefully she's made some movement and has grown out more towards the light.. Once she gets straight up from this bend she's going to start being bent around the circumference of the pot...

well she's turning up towards the light again, it's pretty amazing the speed at which this plant grows

Well she is BLOWING UP in size.. I cannot believe she's growing this quickly.. There's a few problems I'm having, but I'm not sure if it's something serious or not.. Check out the pics to see what I mean.

You can really see how the LST is benefiting the side growth, they are starting to resemble the main growth site on the center stem.
3.jpg2.jpg1.jpg4.jpg

Except for a couple leaves, everything looks really good, but the couple of leaves have some weird damage on them:
7.jpg6.jpg9.jpg5.jpg8.jpg

What would cause that sort of damage? These leaves I took pictures of are off of ONE side growth node... the last one is off of a NEW node and it looks similar to the ones that were on the other node.. Why is the tip all shriveled and dead, and why are there sides of leaves missing on the other one?

Here's a macro of one of the healthy side growths
10.jpg

here's a couple of last shots showing how bushy she is...

12.jpg11.jpg

FYI I don't see ANY insect activity at all, no silky threads like spider mites or anything, no flies.. I don't think it's nutrient burn because none of the other leaves are showing it..

hey, awesome, i have been ooking ofr a good pic on early lst, this is perfect. I'm lst a few outdoor bagseeds right now, and then i'm going to lst some mandala#1, ,mandala*mmilesHigh, and TopSkunk44. i've begun at the fifth week of growth, plant about 18 cm and three or four set of leaves, and i gues they stay bent from here on out then, and i continue bending where i please as growth continues? an it won't hurt my babies? i need to find a better more in depth guide. i knwo they're here, but i can't seem to find them

Check out youtube, there's a dude who makes videos called "Tokin' Daily" and he has a few training videos.. when I first saw how intensely he manhandled his plant to get it to bend over it made me scared, but consider this fact: LST is called LOW stress training for a reason. there certainly is a small amount of stress that occurs, but you basically bend the plant at the point where it wants to bend, and the only "stress" that the plant receives is that it has to devote more growth to the side growths AND for turning the main tip more towards the light.

I was sold when I saw this guide:

Well here we go, LST (Low Stress Training) the ultimate way to maximize your yield.

Before we begin lets get some knowledge on what you will be looking at.

Light Brown : Pot Outline
Green thick Lines : Main Stem
Small Thin Lines with Green Balls on top : Fan leafs
Yellow Lines : Side Branches
Red : Tiedown Metal Hooks (or thread whichever item you use, i use Hooks its easier)

The Text in the box : First digit is Step No. and Second Digit is Pot Size, below the numbers is the type of view your looking at (either from the SIDE or from the TOP)

Now that thats out of the way lets get it on..

Please note, you dont have to do it this way, its just the idea of how to do LST, this is the way i did it and you can see the end result of 4 weeks of growth this way in my signature picture where it says FIM/LST. Some may opt to use the eggcrate method where you utilize an eggcrate around the pot and tie it down to that with zipties instead of using string or hooks running from the pot itself... this way you can cover more square footage and maximize your yield even more.

Ok heres the STEPS PICTURE for you to follow along with.

STEP 1 : Grow your plant from Seed or Clone to 3 or 4 leaf sets, some use 5 but i always use 3 because after 3rd leaf set the main stem starts to harden and it will be harder to bend over your plant properly without breaking the main stem.

STEP 2 : Using a metal hook (i cut small sections of cloths hanger and bend a U shape at the end as a hook) bend over your plant with metal hook at the last internode (space between the last set of fanleafs and the next to last) and stick the metal hook into your dirt to hold down the stem.

STEP 3 : This is really not a step, just waiting time... Take note of how the top of the plant that was bent down will bend back upwards towards the light, this could take anywhere from 3 hours to 1 day. Under my 1000 Watt Metal Halide light it does it in under 3 hours.

STEP 4 : Veg and dont tie down until you have a new leaf set. You will notice Side branching has started already because good light is getting to the main stem areas next to each fanleaf stem intersection with the main stem.

STEP 5 : Depending on your starting pot size you may have to transplant. If you started out with a large pot, repeat step 2 over and over again holding the main stem down with hooks until you reach the end of the pot. In this illustration to save time and drawings, i started out with a small pot and it reached the end of the pot after the first tiedown. I repotted it into a 10 inch pot which will be my final pot size for this plant in order for me to continue the LST Bends around the inside edge of the pot.

STEP 6 : Now that your new leaf set has formed you have enough length in growth since the first bend(s) to allow you to start bending the stem horizontally around the inside edge of the pot. Use metal hooks again to keep this bend in place. Side branches should be coming along very nicely.

STEP 7 : Continue repeating steps 4 and 6, allowing the plant to grow and then keep tieing it down along the inside edge of pot using metal hooks (or whatever your using) Side branches should be forming and growing up towards the light.

STEP 8 : Continue to repeat step 7 until you are all the way around the pot... when you reach the point where your plant first met the edge of the plant Top the plant (cut off the very top of the plant ) and hold it down horizontally with a metal hook.... During all this time of repeating step 7 you should also be tieing down horizontally the new branches that have formed from the main stem as much as possible until you use up as much space as possible inside the pot as well , the outter branches growing over the outside edge of the pot you can hold down as well with string to keep those tops even with the inner branches.

STEP 9 : After you have used up all possible space inside the pot (or your eggcrate) its time to just let it flower.. This is a side view of how it will and should look by that time with all the side branches growing upwards towards the light.... these will all become Collas unlike a non LST plant will only have one colla.

During flowering and even before due to lack of light on the main stem fan leafs which is all the way to the bottom almost against the soil those fanleafs will die off anyways, i usually cut these off the main stem right after the branch has grown out in that area, keeps things neat down below where you will need good airflow during flowering.. so go ahead and take off any fanleafs coming off the main stem that is going around the inside edge of the pot.

Set your timer to 12/12 and watch it bloom

There is no Step 10 in the picture but we all know what that is
HARVEST!!!

I hope i shed some light on the method of LST and its benefits.

Well today I bent her over a LOT.. I took all of the side growth shoots and hooked them down, then I bent the main growth point down and to the left... Here's a shot of what I did..

lst1.jpg

Here's a little markup..

The RED arrows are the hooks I placed.
The GREEN arrows are the new side growths that will become large from me bending it more
The BLUE arrow points to the tip of the main stem / growth point.

lstmk.jpg

Finally, here's a picture of my current lighting setup... All 26w CFL's except the one on the far left, that one is 27 watts when the top is closed they are about 5" away from the plant.. I'm keeping them a bit farther away now in order to induce some stretching:
