First Grow - CFL

Update:

Came home today and my wife walks in the house, turns to me and says the house smells like pot! All I can say is "I know". The girls have started to smell. Guess I need to work on my ventilation system. I have some new parts that I need to put together to improve the design. My real problem is not having a fan that moves enough air while still not make a lot of noise. The duct booster just isn't working the way I would like. I think my first issue is having it too far from the air scrubber. I need to move it up to the filter. I think I was trying to be too subtle when I put it down at the bottom to help hide the tent. I knew it wasn't the way to go when I did it.

LK Update:

Pistils have begun! Both are showing that they truly are girls and will be making me happy. I'll take pics on the weekend.

Boy Update:

so he tried to produce some pollen for me but the temps were just too low. I collected what I could but they are all too immature. Non will open. Oh we'll maybe another time. I'll wait for the summer I guess. I might put some regular seeds in pots and see if I can get a decent male. I'm only planting FEM seeds in the main garden though. Last thing I want to do is grow a big male in the middle of my special girls. I only have five spots for them so they are precious.

Hey Jad!

I haven't tried Ona but it might be worth doing. I'll try to change my ventilation this weekend but the Lemon Kush is going to start gettin smelly soon. I also Want to grow some strong smelling strains in the future. Might be a good idea to have it on hand just in case.

I was also thinking about adding an internal scrubber to pretreat the air before it gets sucked out.

Update Time:

Development of the WW flowers is continuing. They are slowly putting on some weight and getting fuller and whiter as the days go by. Trichs are spreading still and the buds are looking better. The question is as always how much longer to leave it. I trimmed off the two lowest little popcorn branches yesterday and have them drying. Time will tell.

LK Update:

They are both doing well. Growing and putting out flowers. Pistils are appearing and the branches are stretching a bit. I have no idea how much they will actually grow. Probably time to switch out the 6500K bulbs if I want some stretching. Or maybe not...

Update:

Since the girls have been making the house smell (not really, but it is noticeable when you come in the back door) I upgraded my equipment. I put together a new air scrubber. I converted a really quiet bathroom exhaust fan. Flipped it over, added some short sides to it, put in a course filter and covered that with activated carbon. Air flows thru it perfectly and it blows nicely.

Depending on how well this works I may swap out my other scrubber and attach it to the exhaust vent. This is really easy to refill with fresh carbon.

Update:

TIMBER!!!! And down she crashes... I chopped the White Widows down. My Lemon Kush needs more space to stretch and the Pistils on the WW were at 50% brown so I decided it was time.

Here is the best Cola I got. Courtesy of the Little Mutant of course. And a pic of her just before being cut.

Here it is hanging and ready to dry. 2 White Widow. 15 little colas hanging.

I have to say I was really surprised when I pulled the one pot apart. Not at all root bound. I'm not sure why this is unless it is from keeping the lights really close all the time. Minimal stretching.

It was interesting to do the trimming and notice that I was starting to feel a touch of a high from just handling the plants so much. I was careful not to over handle them but my fingers still got sticky.

So just for fun I left the base of the Little Mutant in the tent with three tiny flowers and a couple little leaves. Just curious to see what it does.

LK Update:

So I moved the LK to the centre of the tent and have it ready to stretch into the screen. Lots of room for it to grow how it wishes. I'm curious to see what it does.

So I tried out one of the little popcorn buds. Dried nicely. Sticky. Already starting to lose the grass smell and get its original smell back.

Cut it it up and rolled it. Decent size if a little too loose.

She works. Slow start building into a solid stone. Mix of head and body. Balanced. Not bad at all.

I need to get some good jars ready. I need to work out my curing plans. No sense letting this dry too much and not curing properly.

Update:
So the buds are slowly drying. I picked up some new jars yesterday and I'll be starting the cure today. I'll trim them all and weight it out. Looks good so far. No signs of mold thankfully. I'm a little nervous about that.

LKUpdate:
Growing and flowering nicely. They are going to have a really small harvest but it is interesting. It's helping me to decide how I'm going to be doing my pure/landrace sativas. They will definitely be a couple weeks of 20/4 then flop to 12/12. Minimal veg time for sure. With the 12/12fs and heavy LST my LK are only about 6" tall right now. Very small.

Harvest Update:

So finished trimming all but one of the colas. The largest one of course. When first cut it was 2.1 oz. That is wet of course. LOL if only that were dried.

Anyway, current count is 2.2 oz placed in jars. Not bad at all. The big cola should add a bit to that. A total of 2.5 oz would be nice. I'll check it tomorrow.

Harvest Update:

White Widow Final Weight---- 2.3 oz.

So that's it after some additional drying and burping. Both of the WW added together. Considering how small I kept them I am happy with this. A decent total.

Now on to the Lemon Kush 12/12fs. It wont be much but hopefully it will be nice.

Thanks man!

So far so good. Interesting to see how it will cure.

Making plans for the next grow are hard. I keep changing my mind. Malawi one day, NL auto the next, then Golden Tiger five minutes later. I have until the LK are done to decide.

Malawi Malawi motherfreakin Malawi dude!, I know you're new to MJ growing but you're an experienced legal crop grower right? it's an easily forgiving plant and I think you have the skills to grow this beast. I guarantee you will have stellar results and smoke, the breeder says it is the most potent plant the have come across to date(that says a lot coming from them) not too mention the mold resistance too!.
Malawi1.jpgMalawi2.jpg3.5 weeks into flower. I can't even count the bud sites and shoots! it has been chopped back 2 times major-ly and refuses to be small!, probably because I'm flowering her under 12/12(11/13 is recommended to reduce stretch) and she has 4.7 gallons of space to play with lol. I've seen many grower who have tamed this beast to be short.

How many Malawi seeds do you have? fem or regular?. I've read that this plant is not your usual happy head high sativa but a completely destroying powerful African with lots of thcv.
Zamaldelica (Zamal x Malawi) is even more Psychedelic and a reputable grower at icmag said he is too scared to smoke it!. I must grow this strain to freak my mates out ;).

CK,

You are totally right; I should do the Malawi. It is the one I want. It just means topping multiple times and lots of LST or super cropping.

I only have a single FEM seed though. That means I will be making clones with my tops and reversing one of them so I can make seeds. I might have to create a secondary breeding tent. That is why I have been working on making CS. If I can work out a good ppm solution it should be easy.

I'm not worried about my skills. Not really. I have done lots of growing and manual fertilization of different species. I don't have as good a history with cloning but then that is with shrubs and trees which is more difficult. Using the CS is really the only thing that is totally new to me. I've never tried it before. Should be fun.

Is it odd for me to like the idea of a strain scaring people?? :)

A wild Malawi would have no chance in a small space but ace's version shouldn't be to much different from your average dominant sativa in terms of growth.
1 fem seed can still give you endless opportunities, yeah I'm new to the whole CS thing and even breeding too - my colloidal silver is 50ppm that I got off amazon for $20 us and it's a 16oz bottle.

I like the idea of scaring people with a strain too  the thing is Zamaldelica only tested at 15% thc so that goes to show thc percentage aint shit! ha. the fem version is Malawi ans zamal and the reg is malawi/thai x zamal, I think i'd rather the f1 than the polyhybrid.

I really should be able to control the growth relatively well. The WW were both about 12" (30cm) tall in the end and the LK are only 8" tall so far. I still have space to work with in my tent. Also there are ways for me to have lighting from all sides and below so I am not worried about having enough light for a Malawi. I can't get the high watts that she deserves but I can do enough to grow a bonsai. I will need to continue to improve my ventilation for temp control.

I wonder how she would produce if I had her grow a 24" SCROG? If I top her into 8 or 16 tops then SCROG, she should do well even with lower watts. The question will be the quality of the trichs.

Obviously the Malawi does well in the tropical sun. If I can get close to the same lumens as an average place I figure I'll do alright.

Long term, I would love it if I could breed a Sativa that could grow outdoors here. Something like the Malawi crossed with some of the PCK Indica for colour and fun... Even if I had to use a greenhouse it would be worth it. A Malawi that could go from seed to harvest in 6 months would be wonderful. I have lots of learning to do before I could do that though. Good thing I'm very patient with some things.

I was reading something where a guy mentioned smoking something that made people puke because it was so strong. I had something like that once in the late 90's. I was wrecked by it. Couldn't stand straight. Kept falling over. And walking was a real challenge. I made it outside before I puked but I really have no idea how long it took me to get back inside. That was a completely overwhelming smoke. It wasn't a head or a body stone. It was like being hit by a really big wave and getting pulled down and rolled. No control. No going back. Just give in a hope you can hold your breath long enough to surface. I would rather not have so much of that anymore. Psychedelic would be great though. Bring it on. Acid flashbacks sound good. The cartoon character stereotype stone. THCv is what I am interested in for some grows. Maybe I will have to try the Zamaldelica at some point.

So I haven't done an update in a while. Totally delinquent.

I finally got got a Loupe so that I can properly check the colour of the trichs. I'm trying to figure out how to get a decent picture with it as well. Maybe over the weekend I'll get that to work. Either way I will check how the Lemon Kush are developing. So far they are looking and smelling good. Good colour and the buds are filling in nicely. I'm anxious to finish this grow so I can move on to the next one though. Can't rush it though. They grow the way they grow. It won't be much longer anyway. They look almost ready. And I do expect the LK to have a true couch lock stone.

Update:

So trying to get good macro shots is hard. I so have to find another way to do it.
But here is a sample of what I got.

And if we back off a little...

Looks like this coming weekend is going to be harvest time. :bigjoint:
