First Grow CFL

Hey guys first grow here! Supper stoked. Right now I am still in the building process but I wanted to start my journal now to document the building process as well.

As of now I am still in the cab construction. The cab is 30"W x 25"D x 40"H so pretty small little cab. Constructed out of MDF board and lined with mylar. At this point I am only two sides in but tomorrow I plan on finishing up the cab and install ventilation.

As of now I am looking to put in 2 PC output fans so I can get at least 90 CFM (loose calculation based on volume and circulating 5 times a min). Ill wire these up on a dimmer so I can quite it down when I sleep. Still not sure if I am going to go with a passive intake or not.... any advice?

As of carbon filters I am going to pass since I am in a weed friendly house and trying to keep it simple. If the smell gets too much I'll took back into this.

For lighting I will be going with a bunch of CFL's using power strips and Y-joints. Plan on using a 2:1 ratio of 6500k:2700K CFLs in veg, possibly 3:1 well see.

Got a buddy hookin me up with quality clones, so at this point still have not worked out the strain ill be going with. I do know that I will be going with soil and possibly full organic (buddy grows all organic so I may follow the leader).

Im postin up the pics I have of the started cab. Oh and also looking for any good ways to rig my lighting so I can move it up and down. Have a few ideas in mind but have not decided yet. Let me know what you think!

Well I finally finished up my cab and got the temps and humidity to where I want it. Check out the finished product:


The lighting hood was a little DIY project I had a lot of fun with. Got 10 CFLs in there 8 6500k and 2 2700k. Ill switch them for veg.

I had to add a humidifier near my intake to bring my humidity up, was looking at only 15% humidity but now I can get it to 50-60% no prob.


Getting my two OG Kush clones on Monday. Going to grow in Botanicare ReadyGro Aeration Formula for my girls and ScrOG them. First grow but I have a mentor who has 5 ScrOG harvests under their belt who is going to be looking over my shoulder.

For nuts I have already picked up Pure Blend Pro Grow and going to grab some liquid karma as well. Well see from there.

Ill update with some actual grow pics as soon as I get my babies. Kinda boring so far but any advice is helpful!

No advice here but just wanted to say I'm likin the box. Im not a fan of CFL grows, maybe for seeds and clones starting out, but just seems cheap to me, but it looks good man, im interested in seeing how it turns out. Are you jsut going to adjust the light by lowering the chain? or is it low enough to just leave it? cuz i was going to suggest the zip lines they have just for that use. They sell em at home depot. In my home depot they are right by the fluro tube fixtures.

Ah yeah CFL only for first grow then going to try and upgrade when I move. Right now the lights are on an adjustable chain. So ill lower it as low as I can depending on the temps.
