First grow - CFL

5 Weeks down - Day 36.

Been using the biobizz bloom, at first I thought they had stalled, but I took some photos today to compare to the last set which are 4 days old. i *think* the buds are fattening up, but its SO hard to tell.

If everything goes to target I should be chopping in 3 weeks *crosses fingers*.

I've also had some seedlings on the go from a mate's own strain (he calls it funky, its a blue cheese crossed with something random) which I've stuck in to flower this week. I've got 3 and was hoping to get a male to do a bit of breeding, however I am likely the only grower who is glum to have got 3 females :p

anyway...pics:

Day 38, ladies are asleep, things are looking pretty well right now.

I've given them a bit of a haircut and will do the same again in a couple of days, so as not to shock them too much but to try and shift growth to the buds alone in the last 2 weeks as so many people seem to get good results with that technique.

I've staged up the biobizz feed consistently throughout the last couple of weeks and now they are taking nearly double the recommended dosage with no noticable ill-effect. I'll flush again at the weekend just to be safe, since I'm intending to go water only for 10 days then give them some dry time right at the end in the hope that this will be beneficial to the progress.

Buds on Betty are starting to really fatten up now, Al has always looked less developed and I've had to prop her main buds up with a rapidly knocked together wicker frame to help them stay nice and close to the lights. Betty is holding much more weight comfortably, so I guess it's just one of them things. So glad I took my clones from Betty ;)

Quick question (not that anyone apart from johnny ever reads this:p), but how important do people think airflow is during lights out? I tend to turn my fans off while I sleep and it doesn't really seem to have done any harm, but I always wonder "would they be better still if I'd kept the circulation/extraction on 24/7?"

Cheers :)

They had a good day today, had hoped to grab some pics, but gave pots a lift and they don't need a feed, so I figured I'd let them be. Buds are swelling nicely, I am getting excited now I'm on the home stretch. At some point in the next 2 weeks, give or take, I'll be seeing the fruits of my labours :)

I will try to get some pics tomorrow (grab a batch about once a week) if I'm not too lazy. Got some nice chronic atm, so I'm not exactly getting lots done ;)

What strains are they btw? 1 looks really blue! Ive always wondered about the extraction at night because my friend used to throw black bin liners over his plant in 12/12 lol i thort it would of suffocated it

They are Belladonna, which I've read is superskunk crossed with something unknown. My friend who supplied the cuttings tells me they are shorter, stockier plants by nature in comparison to other strains he has grown. I took cuttings from Betty (the biggest) just before they went into flower and I have a couple of nice clone daughters in veg at the moment to go in when these finish, as well as a couple of a blue cheese crossed with unknown that my friend developed himself which I'm hoping to develope as breeding stock.

I'm off to glastonbury in a few weeks and this first grow was timed to coincide with that. I've got 2 of the blue cheese hybrid in at the moment that have yet to show and will throw one of the bellas in and let the other be a mother when these have finished.

They look very blue when I take some photos with a flash, not sure why. The close up shots of the buds is a true representation of their colour.

Going to buy a magnifying glass today so I can start peering at trichomes :)

Would any of you kind folks be able to offer tips for what I hope to be the last 2 weeks? I've read lots and for some reason now I'm here I am not exactly confident that my plan is based on anything more than hearsay and superstition ;)

The plan, as it stands, goes something like this....

I am feeding plain water only, to leech out any remaining nutes.
I am going to put an extra 130w of lighting in at lower sides in a couple of days time.
I am going to kill the lights on 31.05 and give them 48 hours of darkness before I cut them.
I wasn't planning on giving them any water of any kind from 27.05, to give them 4 days of 12/12 and 2 days of 0/24

Then I was going to go at them like a mad bastard with some scissors and a grin.

Never grown before

thats pretty much what I plan on doing. alot of people say that the 48 hours of darkness does nothing. I am pretty sure that it doesnt really add to the high or increase thc or anything like that but there is some truth that the starches go down to the roots at night to get the nutrients they need for the next day. so this should cause the smoke to be cleaner in my estimation.

Considering the dark period is where the hormones of sensi are activate i wouldnt be surprised if it upped the high or atleast done some sort of defence mechanism where it rapidly creates thc to save its self

Thanks fellas, feel better for the reassurance. I also think that it should trigger some sort of hormonal/chemical response as it tries to make the best of the situation...then, when they are good and scared, I'll creep in in the dark and cut them off at the ankles *mad cackle*

Is there any truth in what I've always been told that when harvesting you get high just by touch?

I'm trimming a few fan leaves a day at the moment, exposing more bud to the light each day, but never enough per day to shock the plants. I hope this is a good idea ;)

Not much more than that to report, gave them some water this morning, it's bloody hot here and I'm having to drop lighting down to 250 for the occasional hour to keep it under control.

This is what my webcam sees, the light green in the foreground is my mate's own strain that I'm trying out.

Well....it's bleedin' hot here! Having to run cab on 250w rather than the full 420w due to ambient heat pushing things up further than I can control (31.5c).

I'm sat here at the moment trying my first test smoke of an early lower bud I clipped 2 days ago. It's not properly dry and currently the stickiest weed I've ever handled. Can't really comment til the plants are fully mature and I've dried/cured properly.

They are starting to look really pretty now in the home stretch, I grabbed some quick shots of the rather crowded cab they are living in.

Well, once again, planning foiled!

My mate who is an experienced grower came round last night for a look in, took one look and said "Dude, these have to come down now". It seems my babies are all grown up and ready to leave home. Tonight, I chop.
