First Grow/ Blueberry week5

Hey all! I am growing a Dutch Passion Blueberry Fem. It was grown from seed and it's in a 2 gal res drip system bucket with hydroton. I feed with RO water and use General Hydroponic Flora 3 part nutes (gro, micro, bloom). I am also giving the girl Foxfarm cha ching right now, having given it Open Sesame and Beastie Budz in the earlier weeks.

She is going into week 6 tomorrow. I have a slight feeling, having looked at many of other people's grows, that my buds are a bit on the underdeveloped side? I am in the process of getting a replacement bulb for the low :blsmoke:

I am running a 400w High Pressure Sodium light. I have heard that you are supposed to switch the light bulbs out for new ones every few grows, so I'm going to put a new one in there and hope it fattens up my buds :?:

Anyone out there that can confirm this idea about bulbs?

Anyway, other then that, Im a bit of a newb so help me out and let me know if you see anything wrong with her, anything I can do better?

Thanks a bunch

how long have you been running that bulb? if over a year then maybe just maybe you might wanna change it soon, if you have an air cooled hood wipe down the glass, with a dry clothe or paper towel you can wait till you bulb is cool and wipe that off too, no fingerprints and no moisture, in my experience, i have run 8 and 10 week strains and its just about fact the last 2 weeks she will put on some weight

your buds do look slim, how far away is the light?

Not far away at all... half a foot? They are not burning though because I have a huge fan pointing straight at the light and the area between the light and the plant, so It stays nice and cool.

Got the new bulb today, going to put it in tomorrow night

And I am not exactly sure how long the bulb has been in use. This light previously belonged to a friend and it came with the bulb. When I noticed the buds weren't coming along as I had hoped then I read up on it and found out that the main problem when buds are underdeveloped is light, so I sought out a new bulb.

Thanks for the help :peace:

What is your PH? What are your PPM? What ratio are you using with your flora nutes?

I try to keep my ph at about 5.5 or so and the nutes are always done 3-2-1 (bloom-micro-gro) running the ppm at about 1200 these days. Been trying to go easy cause I know that blueberry is picky with the nutes.

I have been wondering if the small leaves around the buds are supposed to be pointing down that way? I thought maybe that is just how they grow, but I am starting to think that maybe they should not be pointing down that way. Anysuggestions welcome :)

No one has any ideas about those leaves that curl down around the nugs?

....Gonna give this a little bump :)

I'm growing Blue Cheese and mine are doing the same. Thought it was too close to the lights but that's not it. Might be a little overnute but not much. They are picky. Just have to learn as we grow. Mine are about 4 weeks in flower and look very similar but they are slightly different strains. Hope it helps.

If you are using the Waterfarm and want bigger plants and more yield, use a holesaw to cut a hole in the top bucket and drop your root ball down through into the nutrient solution and add an airstone. Great results.

Well.....there are roots down in the res.....a lot of them. there are a bunch of holes at the bottom of that top pot already letting roots through to the water. I dont have an airstone in there, Ill try adding that in there and see if it helps.

But as for making a big hole in the bottom of the upper pot...There are already holes, and if i make them any bigger, the clay pebbles will fall through with the roots too. So im not sure exactly what you mean.

I am changing the light bulb for a fresh on tonight, so hopefully that will help too. Between the airstone and a new bulb hopefully they will start to fatten up? :)

Peace and smoke on :):peace:

looks like your plants stretched some during veg stage and you might be over nuting.
how is your ventilation?? what temps inside your grow room.. highs and lows??

try pruning techniques next grow.. they drastically improve your yeild. manipulate your
grow to maximize your garden's potential. good luck....

Ive got some blueberry, and the leaves are curled around the buds too. I have tried everything and just came up with that is how the plant naturally grows.

Also, I have noticed the plant doesnt grow big nugs. It will grow lots of dense popcorn nugs everywhere, but wont grow a main fat cola.

So you are actually in good shape.

Blueberry is a little tricky to grow. as it is a hybrid, it does not do well with one main cola like most indica varieties, like kush strains etc. i dont know if you got yours from DJ Short, but most growers use LST( low stress training) or top their blueberry's to increase yield. many growers say the blueberry plant just doesn't yield well without being topped. Try this next grow and see what happens. also add a 6 inch air stone. and the leaves usually curl like that from, heat stress. Try keeping the 400w a foot away(atleast), and make sure you have constant negative presssure in the room (ie. an exhaust sucking air out of the room, into somewhere where it won't be recirculated back into the room). ONLY an oscillating fan does NOT work with an hps.
i paid 25 bucks from htgsupply.com for my 6inch fan, and it's a necessity, just like a microscope is for looking at your trichomes at 7th week+
i ghetto-rigged a hole through my closet door with a jigsaw, and ran my exhaust through it which is connected to a hood. i use the crack under the door for a small intake, and mylar for lightproofing.
i hope this helps
