This will be my grow journal for everyone who wants to keep up with my endeavors. I have done more research on growing these than anything else I've ever researched. Ever since I was about thirteen, oh the nostalgia. Back then I was not a pot smoker, but I always had a fascination with the plants and knew one day I would be growing my own. Now I'm a all day toker, and life just wouldn't be the same without my marijuana.
This grow happened out of a couple reasons, first I had money on hand. Second, I needed marijuana and am sick of dealing with dealers. Three, I found marijuana a preferable alternative to adderall. Four, I had the time to set up the grow tent and all the light.
I started out planning to grow with CFL's in a stealth grow configuration. I knew that would never give me enough bud to smoke like I do. The budget was originally 250$, since that is what it would cost me to buy another ounce. But when I decide to do something, I do it properly. That 250$ turned into about 600$ very quickly. I invested in a 400w digital ballast with MH and HPS bulbs. Bought some fertilizers, a ph kit, a grow tent, some pots to grow my babies in, a 5 gallon bucket to start a vermicompost, a squirrel cage blower, quality feminized seeds, industrial strength velcro,a 20 lb bag of organic coco coir pre-built soil and of course every growers friend duct tape.
You may notice I do not have ventilation ducting, and I really wish I did. Currently I decided to positively pressure the tent with a squirrel cage blower, and that seems to work well for stimulating good stems. It also keeps the temperatures in a reasonable range. I am currently trying to figure out how to raise the humidity in the tent.
I started my feminized white widows in big five gallon pots, since I did not want to give them any amount of stress if could be avoided. The bag seed, and a big bud seed are currently in thirty two ounce pots. I plan to buy some grow bags and plant them all in three gallon bags. My grow period will be two weeks vegetative growth first time around, and all of the seeds that I know the characteristics of flower within ten weeks. The reason for the short vegetative period is I'm moving out in four months, and need to have a finished crop so I can break everything down quickly without having any incriminating evidence in sight. I plan to make a clone box out of a tool box, and use that to transplant the clones to their new home.
You may post in my thread with advice if you so please, and keep any arguments polite. I have not got a timer yet, so the lights are on 24/7 till I can get one next week. College student working on a limited budget.
Now for the reason these particular strains are of medical use to me. First of all any head high seems to help me keep focused, and have noticed that when I go to work on a head high I am twice as efficient when I work. Which is better than adderall without any of the nasty side effects. I also suffer from insomnia at times, so the big bud and bag seeds are indica dominant plants. Which put me into lala land which is perfect for sleeping.
My expectations are eight to twelve ounces of high quality bud, grown using all organic ferts and organic growing medium. I'm making a reasonable estimate that half of my regs will turn into females, this is a pessimistic assumption. Since I plan on giving them a high nitrogen feed of mexican bat guano. Keeping them in a warm stress free environment with proper humidity should increase chances of a female. With four plants, a reasonable yield would be six to twelve ounces.
I also have bubble bags for making hash, so I will end up with probably 10-16grams of quality hash. Now without further adue, here is some pictures of the babes. These plants are not even a week old yet, but they're growing so fast!

This is the smaller white widow, respectable leaves compared to the other same age plants, and definitely a fine example of a healthy plant.
IMAG0044.jpg
This is the bigger white widow, it's not quite in the center of the pot. I'm not sure if a transplant to the middle of the pot is worth it, and if anyone has some advice I'd
appreciate it. This pot has an extra two gallons of space than will actually be required to grow it in my time period. This is the plant I judge all my other plants on, since it is growing so vigorously.
IMAG0047.jpg
Big bud in a 32 oz pot, this seedling has had a rough life, and its growth so far for the stress I put it through is commendable. I had to transplant this poor little plant from the plant my feminized white widow was in. Since I was really stoned when I planted the white widow, it got planted in a pot which I thought had nothing in it. (Passed out after I planted my seeds) Since I did not want to risk transplanting it later, and harming the vigorously growing white widow. This little plant is sturdy as fuck, it wilted over when I transplanted it. I woke up this morning, and it had grown, corrected itself, all whilst overcoming the stress I put it through. The treatment for the stress was light misting, and watering this babe in with 1/2 teaspoon super thrive in one gallon of water.
IMAG0048.jpgIMAG0046.jpg
The three bag seeds are doing quite well for bagseeds. I'm going to try to bring out the full potential of these plants, whoever grew them must of accidentally let a male pollinate some of the flowers. Since some of the bud in the bag was pretty potent, while some of it had seeds in it.

Found an interesting way of rigging my squirrel cage blower up, and have future plans to make it turn into a negative pressure zone. Need to get me some zip-ties first. No pictures this update, sorry everyone. Stay Good.

Today is the end of week #1. The littlest one is my big bud reg that got transplanted, hoping it'll catch up. Doesn't seem to be unhealthy though, just small leafs which is understandable even without the transplant since I started the germination after the bagseed, and white widows.

So far it looks like you have a really good grasp, and a game plan to boot as well. One question but I"m sure it won't be too much of an issue for you since your doing only a two week veg cycle is...how do you plan on growing 32 plants in a tent under 1 400 HPS. I mean I can see since they'll be so tiny but it's going to be very tight in thier...you MAY want to consider doing a SCROG of some sort using trellis netting and maybe some pvc pipes worked into your tent somehow...I didn't notice if you had poles in the corners of your tent if so the trellis should be snap. Sorry if I"m giving you more to think about I just don't want you to get halfway though veg and realize your out of space. Again though really great job for a first grow.

Picture update # 2 : From here on out, I'll be posting pictures without commenting on them individually. That was a pita, so I'll just talk about them and since everyone is introduced to the babes they'll know who's who ;D

Where did you get 32 plants from? I don't plan on scrogging this time around, I have looked into it and like the concept. For my next grow I'm definitely going to SCROG. Since I'll have atleast 2-3 times the plants that I have in here. I could comfortably fit, about 8 5 gallon pots, and 14 3 gallon pots in the 3x3x7 tent. As for the HID light, I'm more concerned with nutrients and light spectrum. The difference in lumens makes more of a difference to increase grow rate providing optimal nutrient, and Co2 uptake. Once I see how far this gets me yield/quality wise, I'll have an idea of where I need to improve and improvise.

Wait, is it possible to SCROG, and SOG at the same time? I know it would be a pain in the ass, which I'm not all too worried about. It would increase the time I could veg, and increase yields by a huge amount, due to increased light to the plants. This would be further a pain in the ass to do without a hydro setup. I think I have enough free time to do it.
I plan on uploading the pictures I took today later, they're growing there second set of true leaves :D

I answered my own question, it is not possible to SCROG and SOG at the same time. Not in the original context of SCROGing atleast. Since, during a SOG you're growing clones really fast, without much vertical growth, looking to maximize your yield in a small space. While SCROGing is the idea of taking a couple plants, and turning them into massive bushy plants that yield a ton of weed per plant.

tha's great to hear bro...keep it up and I"ll look forward to seeing those pics...as far as a SOG SCROG I think it CAN be done it's whether you have the time/ambition to do so. :)

Picture update # 3

The two girls (the ones in the big pots are feminised for anyone who starts to read journals at the bottom.) Are looking good, one is starting to develop it's second set of leafs ;D They grow so fast haha.
The big bud transplant is doing it s best to catch up, the true leaves look good. But not that much in size yet compared to the rest. Although there is some unusual spotting going on the false leafs. Bagseeds are growing fast, but no where near as well as the ones in the 5 gallon pots.

Picture Update # 4 : I rigged up my tent with negative pressure, the temperatures are nice now. A constant 83-84 during the day, and a constant 76-77 at night. Perfect temperature in the day for maximum growth, since production peaks at 85 degrees, but anymore over would cause a decrease in production. Going to be transplanting all the small pots into 3 gallon grow bags next week.

Is it a bad thing that I kind of want that big bud seedling to be male? I would love to make my own white widow x big bud cross. I'd have a strain that was uniquely mine, even though the specific cross has been done before the qualities would be much different from the commercial crosses. Of course I have no intention of growing this crop for just seed. I'd do the plastic cup with water in it, and let the male live long enough to give me his pollen. In say a window sill somewhere else in the house. Only doing this if the big bud turns out to be a male though, not doing it with no bag seed pollen. I want to know who mah baby daddy is. Lol

Just thought I'd explain what I plan on doing after this week with my plants. I plan on using bat guano once I move on to the vegetative growth stage, and then big bloom for the flowering stage. The reason I chose these ferts are, well I only spent 30$ on two fertilizers that will last me multiple grows. According to what I know, Bat guano should be a super fertilizer for the vegetative stage due to high nitrogen to phosphorus ratio. This means I'll increase my chances of a female plants among the regs, due to the high nitrogen to phosphorus balance, and they'll be getting the benefits of microorganisms from bat guano. I plan on fertilizing with bat guano until two weeks into flowering, then I'll switch to the fox farm solution. Sounds like a good plan to me, but I'm open to criticism. Also, should I apply the bat guano as a topping, or as a growth solution mixed with water?

Picture update #5 : Nothing special today, I'm beginning to wonder if the two in the 5 gallon pots are actually the same strain. I know there's a slight possibility my northern lights seed was the one that I put into the pot, and my white widow seed wasn't viable. So I'd have Northern Lights feminized, and White widow. I'm questioning this due to the growth of the two, they're growing completely different from each other. They were both planted at the same time, and they're displaying different characteristics. Won't know for sure till these babies flower.IMAG0095.jpgIMAG0093.jpgIMAG0091.jpgIMAG0094.jpgIMAG0092.jpg

My bagseed started out growing faster then my others too.

Okay big mistake guys, one of the big potted plants is definitely white widow, while the other is northern lights. The next picture update should prove it, lol. Holy fuck I'm surprised these things all made it, I was totally blazed when I planted them. I did not label my seeds either, so I knew from the beginning it was a possibility. I plan on naming her mistake, she was a mistake in more than one way. Not that I regret this mistake. I'm also admiring the difference in bagseed genetics, although it could be a bad thing if they're all genetically different. Pulled them from the same bag. Although my boy told me that the bag was mixed with half of one kind of weed, and half of another. Probably why it was such an awkward smoke. There's a possibility I got seeds from both strains.

Picture Update #6 : Accidentally skimping you on a photo, camera phone did not go off when I clicked the button for the last shot. You get a whacky twist when it comes to the plant development but you lost a picture? ;D

If you think my conclusion is unfounded, look at how the second set of leaves is forming on the second picture one. They're coming up around, and the ones on the other are completely different. It's possibly a mutation, but I doubt it. You can probably see how the second picture had some heat stress, the leaf curled up to increase precipitation to cool off. This was due to the short period of time that it was in a hot environment due to a ineffective exhaust system.

Started my extremely light nutrient solution today. The reason I am starting the nutrient so early, in good soil is just to increase the chances of my plants going female. The nutrient solution is bat guano and water, one tablespoon of bat guano to one gallon of water. Then I distributed it based on size of pot. The ones in big pots got 1/4th of the jug, while the ones in the little pots got about 12 ounces each. I transplanted a plant that had ridiculous root growth for it's age, and once it recovers I got a feeling it is going to grow fast. That's my second transplant, and not going to lie it was quick and dirty like my first transplant. It lost about half it's root mass, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem once it gets it's growth spurt on. I now got the jist of good transplanting down, and next 3 transplants will go smooth as a bunny one I got the soil. I let the soil dry out enough like I was suppose to, I just did not do the remove from pot part right. I always watched my friend transplant from one gallon containers to three gallon containers, but I never saw him move smaller plants. When you got a 4-6 week old plant, and the stem is strong enough to just separate the dry soil from the pot by giving a gentle rabbit tug on the stem. I now know that I have to tip the little pot over, and let the clump fall into my hand. Then gently dust off the soil. Instead of digging around the plant in a small container, that's pretty ineffective. Not to mention down right traumatizing to your little plants. I'll give that little bag seed some gentle care, and it should pull through.
