First grow - banging my head off the wall

Ok, so I lowered the level of water to approx 1/2 inch below the cup.

I googled a bit on photoperiod and am wondering what hillbilly meant by "inducing photoperiod". Should I make the plants 24hrs in light? To make them "feel" the change more? I guess so...
Also the low light would suggest giving them more time in the "sun"...

I need to get those lights fixed tomorrow :-?

this becomes very addicting and your gonna want the best for your girls I would leave them on 24 7 but if you do want to turn the is off 18/6 is easy but 12/6 is even better. do what you think is healthy.

Basically I can program their lighting in whatever way I see fit. It's the lack of knowledge about "the best way" that troubles me ;)

And I do want the best for them. C'mon what made you think otherwise ;) I just a regular noob that tries to do his best :)

Day 8
So I increased the amount of light. I'm curious how the temperatures will look like, but nevertheless I think it was a good investment.

This time I mounted it in a way that I can manipulate the height of the bulb. Had to think a bit how to do this without screws and stuff, but I came up with a quite nice (IMHO ;) ) idea and it works :D

So the girls are right in between old lights and the new one.

Seems like they're doing fine. Maybe not growing extremally rapidly, but Luise already showed her root to me :)

And the picture of the green side:

That new light will be awesome How many watts. Have you checked the temps since you added it. I would put it 2 inch's away from the plants they will loveit and they will stop streaching so much. GL

The new bulb is 105W. Yes, it increased the reservoir temp quite high. Today I tried to find the water cooler somewhere but failed :( I added some ice cubes into the res, so the temperature went down. Also pointed the big fan to the closet so the air is also cooler.

Later I'll post some pictures and more specific data about temperatures because I want to see if I'm able to control the temps with these two tools.

Good news is that Luis'es roots are starting to divide :) and I saw the root of Thelma :) All white and looking good.

The bad news is that I think the new bulb hurt Luise a bit and 2 of her leaves look a bit burnt. I'll try to show that on the pictures later on.

raise up that light right away thats a big bulb she'll recover she will lose those leaves anyway. How how wasthe res temps vs room temp?

It's pretty hot on the outdoors, and the temps went to 85-90F.

Now the distance is more like 4"

Roots of both girls.

Thelma:

Luise:

As you can see, Luise is a little burnt :wall:

But I think they'll be fine. I need to get the fan for res cooling and start dealing with pH. Today I measured it and it grew to 7

Day 14

Girls are looking good. Luise overgrown Thelma, but she was always bigger so no wonder ;)

As you can see on the pictures, they have few layers of leaves. I wonder if I can start with the nutrients or should I still wait a bit.

What I would also like to do is start bending them so I can grow them in circle (as far as I remember it's called LST), anyway if someone disagrees with me that I can start bending them in few days, please let me know :D

very nice you can start with a very very small amount of nutes what r u using? get a fan on them to build up there stem strength.

I'm using Hydrogarden Vitalink Grow and later will be Vitalink Flower :) Used in very small portions.

Day 18

Girls are growing pretty fast :)

Here is a photo of my bigger one, Luise:

Today I also checked the roots, they look white and healthy.

pH is 6 - 6,5. I guess it's a bit higher then it should be, but that doesn't seem to bother the plants much.

Temp of water during "daylight" is around 26c. Temperature of air should be ~28c.

There also is a big fan constantly blowing wind on them :)

So, any advice on LST? I need to find a suitable wire to bend them and will probably to do that tomorrow.

Or maybe I shouldn't do LST? Just cut the top at some point and wait for branches to catch up?

Anyone?

How do I identify nodes then? I would say I have 2, but they are extremely close to each other but I fail to understand why do you say I have only one :(

Day 24

Everything seems to be fine. I started bending them, and the only concern I've got at the moment is that I don't get much growth in height, so I moved the main bulb up a little to get the girls stretch.

I also finally got my camera so I can upload much better pictures :D
