First Grow: Are My Girls Looking, Okay?

Good news...it looks like my Short Rider is a girl too! I had to use a magnifier, but I'm pretty sure I found a couple preflowers with hairs finally. They're only on their fourth day of 12/12, so it's still early. Now I'm just waiting on that Blue Mystic to make up her!?! mind... I have the cloned tops of all 3 still in veg, and an extra couple AK48 clones besides that I can toss into flower as soon as I decide they're big enough. Thanks to the little 'test tube' seed production I did with my AKs, I will have enough of them to last me a bit. I may have to make some Short Rider seeds now too! If BM ever shows female, I will definitely be knocking her up as well. I have plans to cross the Mystic with the AK and see what it produces. Hopefully, it will be obvious in a couple more days and I will have THREE girls this time...

Chief, did you leave Joni tied up from the LST once she started flowering? I just tried it for the first time, and I'm not really sure what I should be seeing from it...more branching from lower nodes, right? Kind of like topping, but without lopping off the plant...?

Hey Mandi, Joni is still tied down. I think I will leave her that way until harvest. You are right, LST is like topping because you get many colas but without the cutting and stress:) I LST and FIM Joni before flowering. I tried super cropping on Tina and topped Terrie by mistake because I was trying to do the Low Stress Break (LSB). So trying something new is a good thing:) Glad you are enjoying the hash. The hash from my 1st Blue Mystic grow was soooooo good:)

I was hoping your Blue Mystics were regular seeds:) Now I would trade 2 of them for 2 Northern Lights:) although I'm a big fan of Short Ryder. I love BMs and hope to make seeds with them. Also I could get my clones on with the BMs. I only have auto BMs.

They've already got stems as thick as my pinkie finger - and nearly as big as the first grow was at harvest time.

I tried my hand at LST on Sunday evening, and by Monday afternoon, they were already twisted toward the lights. I did the AK and BM tops that were cloned from the babies just put into flower. I'm hoping to increase bud sites without having to top them and lose so much in height (plus I needed to learn another new trick). I don't know if I did it right, but nothing broke off anyway...

I tried a tiny bit of hash about two hours ago - just added it to a little bud in my pipe. It was only a few hits, but there was a nice buzz from it. I didn't want to overdo it, as I had no idea what to expect. A bit of a spacey high and nice, mellow feeling. With the tiny amount I used, I should have a good supply for a while. It shrank up to about 3 inches long in the straw after drying totally. BKB...I think rolling some with a joint would knock me right on my ass...LOL

Sure Chief, I can trade you 2 of my regular Blue Mystics for your 2 Northern Lights. This grow will be my first girl with the Short Rider, and I saved pollen from the earlier boy, so I can make seeds with her soon. That will give me some spares to trade you at harvest later, if you want them.

Have you found that the Mystics are a tempermental strain? It seems that my current BM plant is more sensitive to water issues, and will droop faster than the AK does when thirsty. I also have a bad feeling that it may be a boy again! It still isn't showing hairs, and the preflowers I can see with a magnifier have a less pointy look than the females usually do. They are not obvious clusters like the other boys I had though, but appear singularly. I don't recall my earlier boys showing like this, yet I'm thrown by the lack of hairs still. Guess I need to keep up the crotch watch until it makes a decision...LOL

Well...my Blue Mystic is officially a boy - DAMN! I'm not surprised, but I AM bummed out about it. This is my second try at the BMs, and my second grow with balls. I have a new seed germing now - I'm gonna get a girl from this strain! I really want to try this smoke, so I'm not giving up yet. At least I have a Short Rider girl this time to go along with my AK48. I will use some BM pollen on the AK to make my own crossbreed seeds anyway.

Man that sucks big time that the Blue Mystic was male. It's a must have in any weed pantry:) Fingers crossed this seed is female. I have both the Master Kush & Northern Lights seeds on their way to you.

WOW those bulbs are fantastic for that price and you can get 1000 watts and still be under the cost of 250 MH or HPS. How dense did the buds get cause I see posts of people claiming they are thin? That helps me soo much. I am using a 250 watt MH for the whole grow but now I can add a few of those puppies and were sure to go.

Yeah Chief, I can't believe I went 4 for 4 on male Blue Mystics. Out of the 6 left from the ten pack, I figure I should be mostly girls now. I hope one of the two I sent you ends up a boy so you can make your own seeds and have a supply of BM for a long time to come! (Of course, that means the other four I have will HAVE to be girls. LOL)

Already got the start of a taproot on my BM seed, so I put it gently into the seed starter soil to do its thing...if it goes as planned, I should maybe have a sprout on Tuesday.

Sadly, I had to chop my big hearty Blue Mystic today. It was 24 inches tall, 4 colas and nice and green...it was also growing balls!!! It hurt to mulch such a beautiful plant, but there wasn't any point in letting it continue. I already have pollen from the strain thanks to the BM boys in my firtst grow. The seed I just planted has yet to sprout - thought it would go today, but I'm sure it will be a girl this time. Not even MY luck is THAT bad...

ahhh shit sendin seed wheres mine?!?!? lol blue mistics seem to be comming up alot making me wanna grow it even more sorry to hear bout the bad news with the boys i as well hope you get some gurls outta the 6 left why didnt you get fem seeds? just wondering

It was my first time growing and I wanted as many seeds as I could get for my money since I didn't know how bad I was going to screw up. I'd rather have 10 seeds and be able to lose a couple, than waste a few precious females that cost more. Besides, with the pollen I collected from the males I got, I will be able to make some seeds when I have a girl to knock up (and I'm going to cross the Blue Mystic with an AK48 to make my own strain).

Good news...my Blue Mystic seed finally sprouted! It's two days behind what I expected, but it looks healthy so far - just popped the soil Thursday afternoon. Now I just have to send some good 'female vibes' to it for a while as it grows big and strong. They say 'third time is the charm'...so this one HAS to be a girl!

The Blue Mystic seedling is showing her cute little serrated leaves...I say 'her' because even though she is only 2 days old, I just know this one HAS to be a girl!

My Short Rider and AK48 are two weeks into flower now, so I took them to a little soiree... There were tiny makeup brushes and two containers of pollen invited, and let's just say they went home with a high probability of being 'knocked up'. My girls really know how to party!!! When harvest time comes, I should have plenty of SR seeds, and a nice crop of my crossbreed 'Hakuna Matata' (BM and AK mix). I sure hope the new strain is as nice as anticipated...

So, the AK48 and Short Rider I have going are 16 days into flower now. Do you think I should bother to up-pot them once more, or is it not worth bothering at this point in the grow? I've read that they aren't going to get much root growth at this stage, so if that's true, then the larger pot won't really help with yield, right?

Well I am a firm believer in that a plant needs room to grow, roots will constantly grow and eventually your plant can become root bound if it doesnt have the room. You could always just check the roots right before a feeding, just to see whats going on in there. If my plants start to do something thats not normal I always look at the roots. Plus you can see if you have healthy roots or not. I would recommend on up-canning or see where your plant is 2 weeks from now, by then she should be done stretching. IMO

Well Chief, it's going to be another 6 weeks or so until I'm able to gather the seeds from my little experiment. I did about 4 or 5 buds this time, as I hope to get a big supply of the 'Hakuna Matata' cross of Blue Mystic and AK48. If the BM sprout I just started is a girl, I will knock her up too! I definitely want to get a nice stash of BM seeds to keep me going for a while. It will also give me some trading seeds to go along with my AK and SR extras...really liking this 'trade for new strains' thing we got going on!
