First grow, 8 weeks into flower

Not quite sure if it is ready, done a lot of reading, and I am 1/2 and 1/2 on the idea of harvesting or leaving her in for another week. No clue on strains or anything like that, very first grow...literally just wanting to learn about the plant. I am honestly amazed and happy she has turned out as well as she is.

Most all trichomes are cloudy, about 20% amber, but I am definitely looking for that couch-lock high from this plant. What would another week do for the plant? When I am reading that I need to "flush" my plant for a couple weeks before (I have given no nutes in 1 week) does that mean literally, my pots worth of water (5-6gal) everyday? once a week? I am kind of confused there as well. Any help would be great, thanks in advanced.

She should be good and ready to harvest with that many ambers.

Also strain has alot more to do with couchlock-ness than harvesting later.

I dont flush personally. I wouldnt recommend giving them that much water. Keep it consistent. Over watering it could lead to high humidity and mold late in the game when theyre already vulnerable to it. I do stop feeding with nutes for a few waterings before the end but its never more than 5 days and its strictly because the nutes wouldnt have much time to do much good the last few days after resin has peaked and so has size.

So from the sounds, I will be okay with a cut/harvest now, would the dark period be helpful at this point? I had planned on 2-3 days of darkness once ready, would it be too late? and again, what would 1 more week of 12/12 do for her, if anything?

I typically give her 1-1.5 gal once every 5 days or so, so would I want to let the soil dry out before cutting? My idea was to water, then dark period for the 2-3 days, harvest once dry. Is that a decent/good plan? Would it even matter the order I do it in? If I dont need to do any dark period, what is a good plan as far as timing goes for cutting her down?


Thank you for your time, budbro18, I apologize so many questions...harvesting is a lot more extensive than I planned originally.

  • scoping your trichs is not the most reliable way to tell if your plant is ready, its already been shown that some strains/phenotypes never show amber trichs even when they've reached full maturity. Scoping trichs is one of MANY factors you have to consider, its not just one or the other, its looking at ALL the signs. And another sign would be looking at how your buds actually look. All white hairs should be gone, have mostly receded back into the bud, the buds will look bigger and fuller than you've seen them to be during the rest of the grow. You really can tell when your buds are ready just by looking at them. Factoring that in WITH looking at the trichs to get a much better idea of when your buds are ready to harvest.

    Remember, amber trichs are degraded THC, which has now turned into CBN - not to be confused with CBD which gives you the couch lock feeling your looking for, which most indicas are higher in. CBN is known to give you more of a sick feeling that anything else and has no psychoactive properties. If your looking for more of a couch lock type high, you need to choose your strains that provide that.

    Judging by your pictures, your plants are pretty much ready to harvest​

When growing in dirt I've found that its best to flush then for at least 10 days.. Once I see my trichomes are about 10 to 20 percent amber I begin flush.. Lets say the plant is in a 5 gal bucket.. I put the plant ontop another 5 gal bucket and run 5 gallons though it until it stops running through the pot.. I do this for 4 or 5 days and then weather normal until your ready to chop em down.. This makes sure you get that smooth tastin smoke were all lookin for!
