First Grow - 400W HPS - Blue Widow

So i decided to take a step and order some feminized blue widow (blueberry x white widow) seeds from the attitude seed bank (Great Service).

I'm growing in my garage and have 1 400 Watt HPS light. Germinated the seeds on 4/22. Currently have 2 plants going in soil while I also have 1 tomato plant that is in a 5 gallon hydroponic bucket. I want to go hydro but thought I'd give it a try first with a tomato plant (just thought I'd like to get it down before testing it on expensive seeds). On an 18/6 light schedule; also using Dutch Master nutrients.

Not sure if anyone here has ever tried blue widow, but I thought it sounded pretty good. I will keep everyone updated. Thanks and look forward to sharing.

You will find DWC to be so easy you'll never do soil again. I have a basil and tomato going in DIY buckets and they're taking off like MAD with practically nil attention.

Is a drip system DWI or DIY? I don't know the difference. The light is a good ways from the plants (at least a foot and a half) but my garage is getting pretty hot and I have no way of bringing cool air in there other than a couple fans. I know i'm supposed to keep the temp somewhere in the 70's but out there it's between 80-87 degrees and there's not much I can do about it. Any ideas?

I've had a lot of drooping with the plants the first couple weeks; I went out of town for about 5 days and had my brothers drop by to feed them. I believe they were over watered as they were soaked when I got back...haven't given them water for about 3 days now and it's still a little moist...they seem to be straightening up a little.

Just from looking at the pics you might wanna get them a few inchs off the concrete garage floor. Bet that gets pretty cold on their roots.

DIY = Do It Yourself. In other words, I built some of the DWC buckets by hand instead of buying them pre-made.

Drip irrigation is just drip irrigation. Not much else to it.

I'm thinking of growing these for my first grow. I'll have to keep an eye on your grow. Are BWs normally an easy grow? I always thought that BBs were very finicky, picky plants to grow? I do know that you have got to do something about the heat. 90 degrees or above you will never get good bud. I have seen first hand grows that were killed by heat. Is there a window in the room your growing in? A regular box air conditioner will work great.

I'm not sure, but it does seem like it's not the easiest to grow. What makes a "hard plant to grow" hard? Anyone? Does it just take longer than usual or is there some sort of special attention it needs. Again, this is my first grow.

There is no way to put an AC unit in my garage...there are no windows. Plus I don't want to use anymore energy if I don't have to. I'm simply going to have to raise the light higher and blast some fans on it. I even put a big bucket of ice water beside the plant to try and create humidity...not sure how well this is working. I've been growing my tomato plant in the hydroponic bucket now for about 2 months and it is doing really well and heat has not seemed to be a big factor...hopefully these bluewidows will react the same...

Well best of luck, I'll be keeping a close eye on this grow. I really wanna see how it goes. You want to be careful of how much humidity you have in that room. Too much and your buds will rot away. As for as a hard plant to grow, let me be more specific. I have been told/read that its hard to grow correctly. Yes they are "weeds" and will grow in most any places with almost any climate. However, environmental issues such as PH, Heat, Relative humidity, CO2, light exposure, light type, light intensity, Nutrients, soil type. not to mention (hydro) timing, duration and type of watering. Yes anyone could grow bud, but few can do it well. I say if your investing the time and money into growing you might as well get DANK bud from it. Can you drill any ventilation holes in the roof? a simple attic fan added to the roof could eliminate a lot of heat stress. If I were stuck in a room with no way to cool my grow I would do four things to keep it cool. (This is just a engineering majors high rants) I'm not sure if it would work. But it might be something to think about.
Step one. Build a box around your grow.
Step two. intake port at bottom of your box, exhaust at top.
have a bucket of ice water that your exhaust will vent into. thus cooling the exhaust. on the intake think of it like a giant bong with ice water. you see where I'm going???? thus the intake and exhaust is cooled. nifty.... yeah total high...
Step three. put a dehumidifier inside the box as needed so there is no rot.
Step four. Pray it works.

okay so I know its a lot of work and I have never seen anything like this, I really wanna know if it would work. It shouldn't cost that much. The most expensive part would be the box and two blower fans. any who let me know what you think.

Alright, update.

Today I decided it would be best to buy a 42" fluorescent light fixture with 2 32watt (6500K each) lights instead of frying my babies with my 400watt HPS. I'm in my garage and have no way of getting cold air into there. As of yesterday I noticed a couple of leaves curling down and knew it was time to do something. So I've heard fluorescents are pretty good for vegging; hopefully I'll be able to figure something out when it comes time to flower.

The 2 in the soil started from seeds on 4/22; I believe they are about 6 inches. The one in the hydro box I just put the germinated seed into the plug tonight. Going to see if the one in the box will catch up with the other 2!
